Doug Christie Announces He Is Ready To Return To Play In The Nba

what use do the kings have for doug christie? maybe in a coaching staff capacity...but as a player? he's well past his prime, and the kings are overstocked at the guard positions as it is.

DC is one of my very favorite Kings of all time. I'm very happy to hear this - lucky is the team that's able to pick him up. I sure wish the Kings would!!

If he didn't he should've. coming back right now for him does not make sense he needs to realize that hes done sometimes players just don't want to admit it so they turn into the Hero-mode and come back.

Oh please...

Doug Christie has every right to return to the NBA after a hiatus. He had some physical problems that have now healed and if he thinks he can still contribute, more power to him. I'd love to see him back on the Kings bench.

If Doug returned he would go after a Championship likely probably the Heat or the Spurs.
neither of those teams need more old dudes. kinda funny, though. i wonder how long before pop bans family from the team plane and jackie resorts to flying a lear just behind the team plane while talking on the phone with doug.

Problem is our roster is pretty much full. We should focus on things we need. We already have Williamson on our team who plays the leadership role for the young players and knows all about winning the championship and defense. Now we need a big to give us that defense and rebounding that we lack and always talk about on this board.

Not only that, but the reason he started "falling apart" is because he gave it all for our team. If he is in any capacity to return and contribute (and understand his role on the team), I would welcome him with arms wide open.

I couldn't believe it when I saw realgm had posted a link to a press release from...jackiechristie.com.

You know the irony of the one team that might be able to make use of him + deal wiht all that comes with him? The Lakers. Doug = old Ron Harper incarnate as a PJ pointguard.

Could be the real reason Kobe is giving up the #8...j/k

RealGM apparently has never received an official press release. They had to have a link so we gave them Jackie's site.

Hoopshype ran the story and linked it back to their rumors page.

Bricklayer, please expand on what you mean when you say "+ all that comes with him"?

You know what I mean, but as I understand where you are coming from we can probably skip it. Suffice it to say if anybody can handle the drama that has accompanied Doug everywhere he's been except Sacto, its Phil.

Latest on Doug...

"After months of speculation and rumors of retirement, Doug Christie has officially announced his intentions of returning to play in the NBA. Spending months undergoing intense rehabilitation and conditioning has put Christie in fantastic shape and made him eager to join an NBA team at their 2006 training camp. During a recent interview, Christie commented that, “I am blessed to now have gained endurance, agility and quickness at a level that I had not previously experienced.”

Again, I wouldn't mind him at all as a third wing, but hope we/would put deciding on Amundson/Williams first.

We have no room at all for Doug at this point.

Ron - SF
Kevin - OG
Bibby - PG
Garcia - SF/OG/PG
Salmons - PG/OG/SF

that's already all your 1/2/3 minutes. And that's before, Douby, Price, Admundson, etc. get involved.

I would imagine he actually wants to come back and play, not jsut join Corliss as a vet leader/cheerleader, so its probably not here.

I LOVED watching him play. I would NEVER object to seeing him in a King's uniform. He is one of my all time favorties, mainly because always seemed to play with his whole heart - something missing in many players today. While I am no physcologist, I have always thought that being traded from Sac took some of that out of him. His heart just didn't seem to be there in Orlando or Dallas.

I hope he plays again. I was very sad when we gave him up for Mobley. Trading him bugged me as much as THE TRADE. I'll watch him, wherever he signs. If he doesn't play for us (I don't think he will), I hope he plays for team that will give him a chance to win it all.

GOOD LUCK DOUG!!

He's supposed to be on with Grant and Mike tomorrow at 4:30 to talk about it, I think.

what about miami, he could sing for the minimum, and provide some playmaking if something happens with the glove or j-will, and maybe get a ship

Christie cannot play in the nba anymore. After what we saw with Bonzi and Sprewell before, GMs are not really crazy about washed up players with added baggage. Christie had a tough time in Dallas because of his wife and he was good enough in Sacto that it was a minor problem. At the state he is in, his wife's antics will not be put up by any team / team's women officials anymore
