Donte Greene!

Got to pull for the class clown to make it.

Props to Donte. Petrie needs to get rid of some SFs. And by that I mean Petrie needs to get rid of Noci-worsttradeever-oni.

Omri needs minutes...Donte is starting to earn them.

Buckets!

I actually think Cisco should fit right in with our teams new scrappy identity. He's a great locker room guy as well.

I just wonder what contending team has a bag of chips for Noc. I honestly think he's worth kettle chips, as apposed to doritos.

Donte just might have a higher ceiling than Jason and Spencer in the potential and talent categories. In the last two games, he's played great man-to-man, zone & help defense. He bothered alot of shots (& not only his man), yet rarely fouled. When playing under control, he has a versatile & effective inside/outside game. He can jump out of the builiding and has great body control to finish with flair and finesse. He's finally starting to blossom before our eyes, and I can't wait to see how far he progresses throughout this season.

You know, here is the interesting thing: Noc fits the team's scrappy image too. The problem? He's too old and he's directly in the way of our emerging kids. And actually that would apply to Cisco too. Unless:

Kevin. The holdouts on the Reke PG issue focus on Beno playing alongside him, and they are partially correct. Not that Beno is playing PG, but that Beno can help. This is what we talked about before the season. Beno is a "OG" who can help bring the ball, up, help get people in sets, help pass etc. And remember our glory years? Doug Chrstie was a true SG, but he could do those things as well. One of the reasons we were such a good passing team was that we had 4 passers in the lineup.

And so Cisco returns...as our SG. He probably is a good fit next to Reke -- can shoot, handle a bit, will compete, scrap, help lead. Can spot up for threes off those Reke kickouts. But does not need nor expect a large number of shots to contribute. And then while it would be nice to shed the contract, you bring Beno off the bench as the third guard. At all times then you have two ballhandlers and at least one pretty good shooter on the floor.

But of course that gets back to the whole move Kevin issue, which has its own thread. But from a roster balance/fit status, it makes sense. Again however, you have to get something of real value for him. I like the Hibbert idea (not only a shotblocker, but a good passer used to the Princeton), if Indiana would even do that deal anymore (we end up with three near 7 fotoers who can all pass as well as 3 guards who all pass). But something. And if Omri/Donte are splitting the future at SF, and Reke is the future at PG then that something should either be a big, either a star or someone who can defend, or a big combo guard/handling SG (i.e. upgrades over either Beno or Cisco).

Greetings from Israel! Wow, that's one game I have to see!

That lineup worked for one game, good! But in a long run, Kings still have plonter on 3. Kings don't need another SG/SF, the position is loaded as it is. KMart will return to be 2, and when Cisco is back, though it's nice to think he'll play straight SG, but I do believe it's a wishful thinking. He will most definitely want those minutes back from Omri/Donte. Plus, you have Udoka. That's why I think Green is to be conditioned/trained to give JT some rest. After all, he's much more athletic than Omri will ever be. I mean, if Kings have one problem - it's front court. Looks like May is out of rotation (at least, won't get any major minutes). And another thing I wanted to add, Noc is still a much better defender than Omri/Green, I think.

I saw the Wallace comparision also. Donte has worked on his body and he appears to be leaner and stronger. The dunks were really nice to see. I was most impressed when he went to the hole and banged bodies with Randolph who bounced off Donte. Donte was in the air and AFTER the contact still made the shot.......now thats the real stuff:D

GO DONTE!!!

It really can't be overstated what a potential weapon Donte Greene could be. Not necessarily as a 20 pppg scorer, though maybe that's a possibility. But as a long, athletic versatile defender who can guard 3's and 4's and also shoot the ball.

There's a reason guys like Robert Horry, Lamar Odom, James Posey, Rashard Lewis, Derrick McKey, and Clifford Robinson keep showing up deep in the playoffs every year. Sure they were never the best player on a deep playoff team, but their ability to match up defensively while also spreading the floor is crucial...particularly in the playoffs where every game the coaches scheme and adjust.

Donte has all the physical and potential skill sets you'd want out of a guy like that and could be outstanding in that role. Its really exciting to see him playing well.

Seems like a very promising game from Donte. The thing about this guy is that he's got bags of talent. Really, without over-stating it, it's not often a young player has that combination of size, athleticism, and shooting ability (when he chooses the right shot).

I think the biggest thing Donte has done this season is realise that he can contribute in far more areas than shooting. Last season, he seemed to stand around, generally looking lost, and throwing up a lot of shots. The past couple games he's been focused, involved, and his movement without the ball has gotten him open for some nice dunks. You would hope that maybe he's starting to realise that he can be a real player in the league for many years if he just works hard and doesn't "settle" for anything.

In a few of those dunks he looked Amare-esque. He has the ability, IMO, to be a less one dimensional Rashard Lewis. I think he's a more natural athlete, but obviously not the shooter that Lewis is (yet). He's very fluid and mobile for a player his size. If Donte has finally started to get it, then this season is going to be even more exciting when you couple his emergence with the play of Evans, Casspi, JT and Spence, as well as the other guys.

I didn't come around as much as Donte came around. If he hadn't worked hard and shown Westphal he was serious, he wouldn't be playing and my opinion of him would be the same.

I'm always willing to change my mind but it only happens when situations change.

And just for the record? I don't see the need to dump on Kenny, who has done absolutely NOTHING wrong this season, in order to life Donte up. They're teammates and you certainly wouldn't see one of them doing that to the other.

KT is on his last year. If he can help the team this year, especially while we're short-handed, as an extra body and six fouls off the bench, so be it. He's hustled and he's done whatever they've asked him. I think people really need to let go of whatever residual anger they've got towards him.
I totally agree. If Greene continues to play like he has in the last two games I will have to eat some crow about what I have been saying about him.
I HATE CROW!

I effin love crow.

...At least when it comes to Kings players who I labeled as duds turning it on.

I was a Greene basher. I've since changed my stance to cautiously optimistic. Its amazing what having a legit coach does for young players.
