Do we have a chance to get the pacific division?

With this current roster? or is it impossible? if we can come together soon enough there is a chance but alot of good things have to happen to us... although making a few trades would satisfy some hope for the division title. but i doubt anyone thinks we have a chance right now especially when we haven't done nothing besides adding a overpaid player in Salmons.

You have got to be kidding me. What a wasted thread.

With the current roster, we are a slightly above .500 team. Especially when you consider things like injuries, back-to-back games, fatigue, etc..

WE'RE GONNA WIN THE CHAMPIONSHIP BAAAAABBBBYYYYYYYYYY WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO.

Oh sorry.

Knowing OUR luck the Kings will win it NEXT year as the Los Angeles Kings Of Anaheim.

It's just a idea i'm not saying its gonna happen thats why i bought up the fact that the Kings need to make moves to make it even possible..

Personally, I really don't think we needed a new separate thread to "bring up" that fact. It's pretty much being discussed in about half the other threads in the Kings Rap and Personnel Moves forum, don't you think?

I think that might have been what led to Rockmeister's comment. There are already a plethora of threads that are discussing pretty much the exact same thing.

Why would we not? Because we lost Bonzi?? Do any of you remember how good we were without Bonzi once we got Artest and he and Kevin Martin were starting. We had a rookie as the sole backup to Martin and Artest and only Hart backing up Bibby. No to mention Artest had his hip hurt his 4 game with us and was not 100% the rest of the year along with him not being in game shape from the year and a half layoff. Now jump to this year. Not only is Martin more experienced but, now more than he ever was last year he is ready to start and grow even more. Artest is 100% and been getting in shape all season. Garcia was better than Martin when Martin was a rookie now what can we expect this year. As for Salmons some of you are going to be pleasantly suprised this year with what he can do.

So to answer your question yes we can win the division easily.

More on Salmons.
I distinctly remember ppl on this very board saying the same things about Bobby Jackson when he came here. And the other Jackson, we picked him up just before the season started and I heard he was washed up, a never was, a never will be and all that. After that season alot of fans wished Petried to die because he didn't re-sign Jim. This year most fans wanted us to get Bobby back after 2 years of injury and as old as he is they still wanted him. Well get this Salmons is a better basketball player than both of the Jacksons.

No chance. We are not even as good as we were last year. We are miles off winning the pacific. The way things are now, even making the play offs is in question.

Do you remember why we were miles away??? Peja disrupted everything. We kept forcing him the ball and he didn't put up the numbers hence he was traded. We got Artest just before the All-Star break and had one of the best records in the league after the All-Star break. So don't go by the total numbers last year when we had the lame duck. go by the record we had once we got a true player that cared about winning. Now we got a coach that can spell the word defense.

I can't beleive you ppl think losing Bonzi is that critical to the team. Once again look at the record with out him when Martin and Artest were the 2/3 with only a rookie in Garcia coming off the bench.

I do not think we are miles away from winning the division, but making the playoffs is going to be much harder than the last 5 years or so. A lot of teams improved and we only have Salmons and not to mention we are bonziless. Suns are better, but steve nash isn't exactly the definition of young, the clips could win the division as well. Those two teams are better than us in the division, no doubt. The rest is a scramble between the Kings and Lakers. 2 trades or signings can help us not only win the divisions, but challenge for the title. I personally think that Petrie is waiting for next summer for good FA's, which would suck if its true.

We also have a new coach which could be a challenge. The Mavs took a few months to get used to Avery and i suspect it will be the same with us. We still need big men and, sadly, its gotten to the point were it hardly matters what type of big man he is, just as long as he can play in the post.

Oh sorry, how DARE I forget that it was ALL Peja's fault

obviously, our roster needs an extra big man or two to add some defense. and Brad's offense got pretty weak towards they end; he seemed like he was scared and would hesitate on some easy shots. buuuuuut... Martin and Artest are gonna be a great combo, and i have a feeling that Bibby's gonna have a career year (its his contract year, isnt it?). Douby's a nice addition, and Salmons will probably surprise us all. don't underestimate our current roster. we just need some freakin defense.

we wont win the division, but we'll do better than last year. the Suns are gonna kill this year of Amare plays well. look how they did last season without him.

Rebounding issue needs to be addressed severely. I mean, replacing a top rebounding wingman in Bonzi Wells with a pathetic rebounder in John Salmons simply isn't the way to go. But, the offseason's still young. As of now, probably the Suns will win the Pacific Division--sans Tim Thomas, they still have the talent that led them to the Western Conference Finals in the first place--and oh yeah, perhaps a healthy Amare as well.

You never know until you see the team play. This is a game about chemistry above all else and if they have it, which I think is possible if last year is any indication, they could take the league by storm.

We def. have a chance. Last year once we got Artest, we had a great record, and a lot of those games were without Bonzi anyways. Add in the fact that our young guys will improve, and that we actually have a decent backup PG this year, and I think we will challenge for the division. We need another big man, if we get one, we will challenge the Suns.

numbers don't lie. He was the only person that changed on last years roster. look at the record with Peja 17-26 then look at the record with Artest INSTEAD of Peja 27-14. What possible conclusions can you come up with. that is exactly a 41 game split between Peja and Artest. Lets say we just have the same record the first 41 this year as we did last year with Artest that is 54 wins my friend. Also 16 of those 27 wins we had after the arival of Artest Bonzi Wells did not start. He didn't even play in 9 of them.

I do realize some ppl overestimate their team. But never have a seen UNDERestimation as I am seeing on this thread.

Bonzi didn't get replaced by Salmon. Bonzi left and we picked up Salmons. Salmons is not the starter Kevin Martin is. Now Bonzi averaged 8. I think those 8 will get picked up somewhere. its not like Kevin is going to averged 0 reb. I figure around 4 and Reef will get more than 5 you can bank on that. Brad will also get back to 9 or 10 with Bonzi being gone. What you don't realize is the smartest think RA did in his tenure in Sacramento was utilizing bonzi's ability and willingness to rebound by assigning Brad and Reef to BOX OUT while the smaller quicker Bonzi and KT dove inside for the rebounds with the big men being pushed out by the Brad and Reef.

No, we don't.

UNLESS the Suns have a major injury, let's say to Nash. But if the Suns run out to a 55-60 win type season, no.

Just remember the Nuggets. Same situation we were in. Did nothing after a better closing rush than we had + their own first round loss to the Spurs, even effectively lost a guy like we did with Bonzi (Nene) and then just muddled through a disapppointing year this season. Big rushes rarely translate wholesale. Not never, but rarely. There's been a summer, the momentum is broken, and we are no better of a team today then we were on the last day of the season. Likely worse. Throw in an inexperienced coach who's never even been .500, let alone pushing 60 wins, and if the Suns put up that sort of win total we are strictly also rans.

P.S. As an aside God am I sick of the ridiculous "boxing out" excuse -- its one of the saddest lines of justification I have ever heard. Think it was started by a Reef homer no longer on this board, but good lord. Somehow Kenny apparently didn't get that memo and actually grabbed boards himself. Similarly somehow Kevin wasn't able to quite take as much advantage of all of that amazing blocking out going on as an OG, despite the fact the sad *** weenies up front were as bad as ever during his tenure. On a similar tact we also told Mike not to defend so he wouldn't get tired, and Brad not to defend the rim so he wouldn't get in foul trouble.

I think we'll be better than what most people predict in this thread. Having said that, we still won't win the Pacific until our weaknesses are addressed. The Suns and the Clippers are more balanced teams, as it stands.

At this moment in time, we have - statistically - the exact same chance as every other team in the Pacific Division.

Considering it's still early August, I really don't think we can hope for anything more than that...

Suns are just too good for us to win the pacific. Suns will probably win 60+ this year with amare back in the lineup . BUT HEY , EVERYTEAM STARTS 0-0 , SO WE DO HAVE A CHANCE !
