Do Blocked Shots Really Matter?

Having a shot blocker ... let's see - just knowing your shot can get swatted .... does/creates different things:

Defensive presence
Intimidation
2nd thoughts on the opponent
3-second violations

... just to name a few

oh yes. kings do need a shotblocker. but our guys dont even try. brad miller just raises his arm. doesnt even jump

That implies that Brad CAN jump, but doesn't try. Brad can jump...a couple of inches. And there's no doubt he's slow-footed. I don't think he has the physical attributes to be much of a shot-blocker. Not saying Brad always puts out 100% effort or can't improve, just saying he does have physical limitations. If we want a shot blocker, then we need to bring in someone with at least the physical ability to be one.

I think more than a "shotblocker" we need a "force in the paint". Often times those can be two entirely different things.

Like weakside shotblockers. Stromile Swift for example is qualified as a "shotblocker" but he is also one of the softest players in the league and doesn't strengthen your interior defense at all. Amare Stoudemire is another that falls under the same category.

I like Griffin, although I don't know if he is a "force in the paint" but he is close. Sampson could be that, but he most likely isn't. I have mentioned Etan Thomas before. He reminds me of a guy that could fill that Scot Pollard role.

Believe it or not, a guy that I think could come cheap, maybe the LLE, is Greg Ostertag! Don't know how that would work with Rick Adelman as coach though. Still, I would do with Tag, Griffin, or Etan.

The more unlikely and optimal choice would be Chandler.

None of them provide points in the paint though, just a presence on the defensive end. Joel Pryzbilla is a free agent next year, and he does both very well. I'd give up Brad Miller for Pyrzbilla anyday :D

And that, in a nutshell, goes a long way towards explaining why you're not a GM in the NBA.

;)

Not really so. They are not iso players, but I don't think we need anymore of those. We have Ron Artest so our needs for points in the paint are eased a bit. Even more if Bonzi Wells and Reef are on the team. We don't need more O, just a little more D in the post.

I would love to get big Joel on the team but I wouldn't give up Brad Miller for him.

Brad Miller won't get you where you want to be as long as he's Center;)

Even though you haven't written a body, I'll say I hope you're kidding from the title. Hell yea blocked shots matter, in many ways.

- it's a crowd pleaser
- momentum swinger
- it brings swagger to your team
- they save baskets and lead to fastbreaks/points on the other end, a 4/5 point swing
- it gives you a mental edge on the competition when they drive inside, you better believe it'll throw off their shot or make them think twice
- defense wins games

that about covers it ;)

Also boosts the team's confidence and morale. And doing completely the opposite to the other team.:D

But can you guys accept this lineup (I mean I would go for this one)?

C Pryzbilla / Ratliff
F Miller
F Artest
G Wells
G Bibby

So we can have a better match up with the teams who has big PFs like Dallas, San Antonio etc.....
