If 8 months is worst case scenerio there would still likely be 2 and half months of the season left plus the playoffs. At that point he has learned the entire playbook, been to a million practices and observed from the best seat in the house. Not what we want but given he is not part of the starting 5 it’s not catastrophic. Let’s hope for a much shorter recovery

If this were the reason he fell that means for the mere price of waiting an extra few months we get a better player than we would have otherwise. How can you not be excited about that? And it's a shoulder not a knee or achilles. I don't think we have anything to worry about long term, if anything the surgery is to address that.

If I were drafting a quarterback maybe I’d be worried but for basketball players anything other than lower body stuff is generally not an issue

My thoughts exactly. He's likely not getting huge minutes in a competitive Western Conference where every game will matter. Red shirting a mid lotto player on a playoff team isn't unheard of.

This does make dumping Davion a little more puzzling. I'd like to have seen what he could do in his contract year.

Didn't think I could dislike the draft selection more. He can't help us with our playoff aspirations and we won't know what we get until 1.5 years later. Big yikes right now.

It sucks but I think it's fairly unrealistic to expect any rookie picked 13 to help with playoff aspirations.

I'm hopeful just being present and vibing with the team he'll have a smooth entry when he does get in. Shoulder injuries suck but after the first two months or so it's all rehab and you can do all the lower body and cardio work while you recondition your full range of movement. And even the first two months he'll have plenty of study to do and can do stuff like stationary bike work where there is no fall risk. No reason to think this downtime won't make him super hungry and he should be 100% when he gets back.

I would disagree with you though. At pick #13, I saw an important role player who would get around 18mpg for us next year.

#13th pick is kind of high to spend on a 22-year-old guard who’ll likely be out for his entire rookie year…

Yeah, but that was because of his age and tools. Not every player at 13 was considered to be that. If he fell because of a shoulder injury, that explains why there was talent there that shouldn't have been.

Yeah, Brown anointing a rookie would be rare. That said, if there was a type to get the chance it was Carter because he checks so many boxes as Monte said.

The dude would have to play into the spot the same way Keegan did. Something about him makes me think he has that same type of instinct even though on the surface stone-faced Keegan and "this is crazy" Carter are worlds apart.

I’m disappointed, for sure. I don’t pretend to be a draft scout and didn’t follow college ball too much this year, so much of what I learned about Carter was after the pick was made. Many pundits were declaring him NBA ready and most likely to step in right away and help a team. For that reason, I was pretty excited by what he could add to our team. I won’t pretend like this is “no big deal” but the sky isn’t falling either, especially if he is the player many thinks he is and the reason he fell to us is because of the injury.

Yep. He's gonna miss his ENTIRE rookie year and we wasted a whole year to work him into our Rocket science like offense. But most devastatingly, we wasted another year of Fox/Sabonis/DDR prime year because our defense is doomed without our new defensive specialist who some comped to be the next Jrue Holiday.

The Kingdom has fallen. Might as well disband the franchise now.
