Detriot Backcourt

Detroit has the best backcourt (Billups, Hamilton) in the NBA, and the best PG in the NBA (Billups). Don't argue, I'm just letting you know the facts, if you didn't know already.

I rather have Chaunsey than Davis any day. Chancey is probably the best defensive point guard in the game today. If we had him in our team we would not see as much penetration as we do now that is for sure.

Best starting PG, maybe... I haven't seen as many Pacers games this season, but I've watched nearly all the Pistons games; I'm pretty sure that Jasikevicious is better. Knight is pretty good, too. And neither is as good as Earl Watson.

And, by the way, best defensive PG =/= best PG.

Jasikevicious a better defender than Chaunsey? Is that a joke just ask any Pacer fan who is the better defender. Watson is not a better defender than Billups Chaunsey has everything he can guard the perimeter as a good as the post. He is an all around defender plus he is a good offensive player to boot. He is the Ron Artest of PGs when it comes to defense(minus the mental problems ofcourse)

Who does Billups defend in the post? There are only about three other point guards besides Billups that even rely on anything vaguely resembling a post game (Davis, FSM, Payton), and Billups can't stop any one of those guys.

Watson is a better man defender than Billups; Billups may be a better help defender, but that's more a by-product of him playing in the single best defensive system in the NBA of the past four or five years.

The Ron Artest of point guards? Billups can't even stop Tony Parker.

hmmm. Let me ask you this. How many times has a Pg scored more than 20 points in a game against Billups this year?
answer: A.I.(40%FG) and Gilbert( 32.2%FG) What other PG in the league can say that?

parker..... sort of...

billups on anyother team would not be nearly as effective... especially if the team needs him to score.... who wouldnt be as good as billups on the pistons? kidd, marbury, francis, davis and even "mr. no defense" himself steve nash would be just as good if not better than chauncey.... on the spurs.... hell with nash on the team big ben would average 10 blocks a game, lol....

You can also look at the assist those PGs are having against Billups. Billups is a great defender reguardless of the front court help. If you get a chance to watch any Detriot game you can see this even when he gets replaced by thier backup Carlos A. The difference is like between night and day. I say the key to that team is Billups his influence on both sides of court is greater than anyother player including Ben.

That I disagree the Detroit defense would suffer alot with Nash. Their offense would be better I agree but certainly not their defense.

hmmm. bait and switch much?

Let me ask you this: how many PG's in the league actually average more than 20 points per game? Here, let me help you: there are only three point guards in the league that are averaging twenty or more points per game this season: two of which have actually hung twenty on him, and the third of which he hasn't even played yet.

How about we revisit this conversation when Billups has actually played all the top PG's in the league. Holding guys who average 16 points to 13 points ain't exactly a shining example of "lockdown" defense.

But look at thier percentages and you can see they are off by quite a bit. That is another indicator of Billup's effect on other PGs.

Or, and I'm going to go with Occam's Razor on this, it could be because he has 3 shot blockers (B. Wallace, R. Wallace, Prince) playing behind him. It's easy to look like a defensive stud when you have that kind of backup.

i am dumbfounded that anyone that has watched a fair amount of basketball would consider chauncey billups the best defensive pg in the league...

stunned....

chaunceys so overrated defensively its a joke....he is absolutely the product of the best defensive front line in the game...possibly ever...
i cant tell u how many times ive watched tinsley go right around him, as chauncey picks up his jock at the top of the key, only to see tins eat it courtesy of ben or sheed...

i wont go into a long list....but right off the top of my head i will tell u this...chauncey billups doesnt even deserve to be in the same conversation defensively as delonte west....and if u watched either of the two games theyve played this year, that would be abundantly clear....

and the notion that chauncey is the artest of pgs is laughable....while his muscle tone is very defined, hes not nearly as powerful as he appears...tinsley routinely takes him into the post....and trust me, tins aint no adonis...

west, on the other hand, hes scary...he could very well be on his way to being the artest of pgs....the man is like the glove II...

I have had this conversation with my friends MANY times. Quite frankly, we have come to the conclusion that we have no idea how Billups qualified for ANY all defencive team.

And while any other year I would have taken Baron Davis over Bips, THIS YEAR seems to be Bips' career year... right now, he is in the conversation for best PG in the NBA.

Carter/Kidd is not in that conversation.

just my 2 cents.

I don't know why but I disagree with everything you have to say on this bored....

Anyways, you know how INSANE detroit would be if they had davis instead of billups? Wow, that team would just destroy everything in its path... As high I am on the bulls in the 90's, the detroit now if they had davis could give the bulls a run for their money and boy do I mean a RUN for their money.

Billups is a good, tough defender, but nothing incredibly special.

And FWIW, Saras isn't nearly as bad at defense as all the scouts had him made out to be.

No...the Detroit backcourt is the best. Davis and Richardson aren't even top 3.

Backcourt rankings

1. DET
2. NJ
3. SA
4. GS
5. SAC

Top 3 are certain. Go ahead and argue about 4 and 5 spots. Davis and Richardson? PLAY SOME DEFENSE.
