In my estimation there is a band who I will keep nameless that is mysteriously missing so far. Sad, for me I would have picked this one up in round two or so. Guess I wouldn't have got the right value for them.

I'm thinking the best song of all time is missing from everyone's island so far.

If NIN made my list, this would definitely have been the album i would have choose. good pick.
Ditto.

This was on my list for a while, but got moved to the alternates as I started adding and, even though I was conscious of the fact that it was still available, I'd become too attached to the rest of my list to go for it. I'm glad to see someone take it, though.

The Blasters - The Blasters (1981)

Its hard for me to pick one album here because not only did The Blasters put out a lot of great music, but the bulk of their discography can be had in one package for only slightly more than the cost of a regular CD in Testament: The Complete Slash Recordings. The Blasters is the first of these recordings and represents the first half of the first CD in that set. It opens with 6 of my favorite tracks and is consistently top notch the rest of the way through. A few of these songs had been recorded on a smaller label, but they really reach their potential here with the addition of Gene Taylor's piano runs - the type of stuff that if I had heard when it first came out I may not have written off my mom's insistence that I learn the piano as a young boy. 5 of these first 6 are originals but any of them sound like they could have come right out of the prime of early 50's rock and roll.

The Blasters were pioneers of reviving American roots music in the 80s. Although they often shared the bill with punk pioneers such as X and Black Flag they would also open for Queen on part of their West Coast tour and helped get exposure for Los Lobos and Dwight Yoakam (who would score a modest hit with The Blaster's tribute to Hank Willaims, "Long White Cadillac").

Since I can only take one album (at a time, at least), I'm going with this one but if anyone is interested in checking them out I recommend just grabbing the Testament set.

After C Diddy's treachery, I must act quickly. Though Aenima is probably, probably my favorite Tool album, this one could be it too. I'm just going to say it is for the hell of it, since you took Aenima. Either way, this record is awesome.

Tool - Lateralus - 2001

Tool is in my top 3 of favorite bands. They are the best current hard rock group anywhere. I think in a few decades, their stuff will be considered classics as they truly have and are leading us into a new wave of progressive rock (which is their official genre).

At the very least this is Tool's most critically acclaimed album, and is in the top 200 Definitive Albums in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame at #123. Also, this album has much less annoying interludes than Aenima...man I found some of those annoying.

Oh and for anyone into math a little bit like I am, or once was, Lateralus will blow you away. The title track is a sort of homage to the Fibonnaci sequence, in that the lyrics, time signature, and guitar riffs are all assembled to the primary Fibonnaci sequence (1,1,2,3,5,8,13...) or a certain Fibonacci number (i.e. 987, as the time signatures through the song goes through a cycle of 9/8 to 8/8 to 7/8).

The best track on here, IMO, "Schism," won a Grammy in 2002 for Best Metal Performance, and its well-deserved and is basically the best song to listen to if you are just starting up on Tool. it encapsulates basically everything they do, awesome lyrics, multiple time signatures, and some of the best riffs around. "The Patient," "The Grudge," and "Parabol/Parabola" (another math-driven song) are also irreplaceable Tool songs that I just have to have on my island.

Interesting....I didn't know metal music could be so educational....

I never got past my Multiplication Rock album growing up....so obviously that's why I'm clueless on Fibonnaci sequences and such...

;)

OK, no taste(less) jokes every1, please. ;)

Queen - A Night At The Opera (1975)

From wikipedia:
A Night at the Opera is a 1975 album by English rock band Queen. It was produced by Roy Thomas Baker and Queen, and reportedly was, at the time of its release, the most expensive album ever made...

It still sounds as one of the most expensive albums ever... and very expansive. 70's were the decade still fresh from all the innovation and spirit of the 60's but with new sounds emerging: glam rock, progressive/symphonic rock, punk in NYC and London. Queen was the band that found themselves in the 70's, emerged globally with a mixture of rock, opera, theatricals, pop and was essential part of 70's and 80's but it didn't really belong to the era in any specific way. Not transcendent either in a way Beatles were in the 60's. I still can't peg them, but I love this album and it will work real well on my island.

Song list:
Side one
  1. "Death on Two Legs (Dedicated to...)" (Freddie Mercury) – 3:43
  2. "Lazing on a Sunday Afternoon" (Mercury) – 1:07
  3. "I'm in Love with My Car" (Roger Taylor) – 3:04
  4. "You're My Best Friend" (John Deacon) – 2:52
  5. "'39" (Brian May) – 3:30
  6. "Sweet Lady" (May) – 4:03
  7. "Seaside Rendezvous" (Mercury) – 2:14
Side two
  1. "The Prophet's Song" (May) – 8:20
  2. "Love of My Life" (Mercury) – 3:38
  3. "Good Company" (May) – 3:23
  4. "Bohemian Rhapsody" (Mercury) – 5:54
  5. "God Save the Queen" (trad.; Arr. May) – 1:13

My pick ;

Snow Patrol - Eyes Open (2006)
Lot of great songs on this album such as Chasing Cars and You could be happy. Most of you probably never even heard of this band. A little similar to Coldplay, so if you like Coldplay check them out. I think they're every bit as good, and I listen to them probably more than I do Coldplay.

Its not your pick by my count. atxrocker and MBF each have two picks before yours and dimedropper 1. You may want to delete that before they see it.

Yeah....I just got on to do mine but somebody obviously messed up. You guys really gotta pay attention to the draft order, didn't it mess up around this area last round too?

Stone Temple Pilots- Purple -1994

I am really surprised that this pick was still here so I will go ahead and grab this one. It is one of my all time favorite albums. I listen to the whole thing without skipping any songs so I know it will get alot of play on my island.

OK guys/gals, we need to remember to PM folks and keep this going.

And you know it wouldn't kill you to check here when your choice is only a few away to see if it is your turn yet as well. Responsibility lies with both parties to keep this moving!

Completely my fault for the whole PM mess. It was very late here when I made my last pick, then I wrongly PM'ed Bozzwell. After realising my mistake I apologised and completely forgot to PM atx. Sorry people, won't happen again.

Listen Without Prejudice Vol. 1 - George Michael 1990

Felt like a good time to foray a little bit more deeply into my personal stuff and I dunno, gosh, break into another decade for a little bit. I went away from WHAM! And from the critically acclaimed and Grammy award winning Faith, which I truly did wear out. By this release George had become more mature and more defiant “Freedom90”. He was beginning to master his homage to Stevie Wonder covering the haunting “They Won’t Go When I Go” and showing off his falsetto range on “Soul Free” one of my favorites was “Something to Save.” I don’t know what it was, but despite it not getting the love that Faith did, I still loved it a lot. The big anthem sound of "Praying for Time" even grew on me. George for a while became the lyrical poster boy for bad breakup/you need to get over it already lyrics. I think subconsciously that’s one of the things I like about him… ;) It also contains the lyrically poignant "Mother's Pride" which took hold for an entirely different reason during the era in which this album was released.

Round 10

Outside: From the Redwoods - Kenny Loggins 1993

Any chance I get to consolidate an group of albums into one pick, I’m going for it! I have a multi-disc Live Kenny Loggins set, this is by far the best in terms of recording quality and song selection. Recorded as the title would suggest in the California redwoods, Loggins nailed it. Three of my favorite songs are here…and any version he does of “Celebrate Me Home” makes the album a worthy listen. He takes the soulful ballad from another of my favorite albums of his “Vox Humana” and creates a richer rendition as a duet with Shanice on “Love Will Follow” That those songs follow each other in the concert for 14 minutes of solid music…my goodness. He sprinkled this set with songs from another great album (Leap of Faith) I would have pulled for the island if I could take 40 plus some of his older classics – stirring rendition of “Angry Eyes” Plus the obligatory cuts as Mr. 80s soundtrack.

time for some more rock

Radiohead- OK Computer 1997

Couldn't ignore this one anymore. I actually had a very hard time picking this or their second album, The Bends which was also very very good. Ultimately I went with this album because I favor it slightly more. My island must have some Radiohead and this album is better than them all. It includes tracks like "Paraniod Android", "Karma Police" and "No Surprises" and is often regarded as one of the best records of the 90s. This album has also received alot of critical acclaim ranking #162 on Rolling Stones list of the 500 greatest albums of all time list and in 2005 Spin magazine ranked it #1 as the top album of the last 20 years.

Dime dropper has been on the clock.......

BTW, if he actually pix Bozzwell's pick, I say BW should get it because of the mix up. Just my 2 cents.

That's fine with me, but I didn't see his pick and we have different tastes in music so I think the chances of that happening are slim to none.

Anyway, my pick is ;

James Morrison - Undiscovered (2006)
He has a very gritty voice, almost croaky. But yet smooth. Very good singer. I think I remember that his voice got it's "croakiness" as he had a condition as a child and he almost died from it . He survived and it effected his voice. Some very good songs on this album such as "You Give Me Something" and "Wonderful World".
