If that ain't the reason, then this is: Byars, at his peak, is carbon copy version of John Salmons. Maybe even less athletic, but stronger. He's versatile and can pass the ball, and despite putting up jacked up shooting %'s at the college level, his lack of shooting lift and slower release means that he's probably relegated to merely decent shooter. Solid defensive fundamentals, but again, lack of great athleticism in a athletic perimeter player-laden league doesn't help him there. He's probably one of those nice college players who probably will struggle at the NBA level; see Gaines, Reece. However, he did show enough in his senior year to be at least, at one point, be considered a near lottery pick; he did drop a lot, but it's obvious now to see why NBA teams are doubting his NBA potential.
