Demarcus F Cousins

Oh good, this is the point of the year where we have lost our collective minds.
How so? It's not like saying you wouldn't trade Cousins for LeBron James is the same thing as saying that Cousins is better than LeBron James. But, all things being equal, it's probably easier to build a team around a great big than it is to build a team around a great wing, even if that wing is the greatest player in the game.

You betcha.

Among players who have registered at least 55 mins total this season, Cousins has the highest PPG out of anyone (per 36). Below is the full list:
  1. Cousins - 29.8 PPG / 19.9 FGA
  2. Bryant - 28.9 PPG / 25.5FGA
  3. K. Thompson - 28.6 PPG / 17.7 FGA
  4. Curry - 27.7 PPG / 19.2FGA
  5. Harden - 27.4 PPG / 16.1 FGA
  6. K. Martin - 27.2 PPG / 16.1 FGA
  7. I. Thomas - 26.4 PPG / 18.4 FGA
  8. Gay - 26.3 PPG / 15.7 FGA
  9. J. Crawford - 26.0 PPG / 18.6 FGA
  10. Nowitzki - 26.0 PPG / 17.8 FGA
  11. Bosh - 24.5 PPG / 16.2 FGA
  12. Griffin - 24.1 PPG / 18.9 FGA
  13. J. Johnson - 24.0 PPG / 18.8 FGA
  14. Aldridge - 23.1 PPG / 18.3 FGA
  15. A. Davis - 23.1 PPG / 17.5 FGA
It's interesting to see that Cousins and Gay are the only C and SF that are in the top 15 right now (probably helps that Lebron is struggling and the fact that Durant and George are hurt). Everyone else is either a PG, SG, or PF. (#16 is a SF - J. Green and #19 is a C - Monroe). It does show that we do have a pretty unique team in where our points come from though.

WOW!!
What's amazing to me is that 4 out of the Top 8 scorers in the NBA (per 36) are current or former Kings, and we drafted 3 of them!

Is Gay the best SF in the West right now? Heck even NBA. We all know Lebron, Durant, Melo and George are the top 4 when right but Gay is playing well enough to be right there after them.

Our lineup feels solidly anchored with Cousins and Gay being great... and Collison being the "head of the snake" as they've been calling him. Reliable play from the 1, 3, 5 positions us to do damage

It leaves both PF and SG positions to concentrate on guarding the opponent (and occasionally score)..

We were a pretty good team when we had Gay and Cousins playing last year. Now we have those two and Collison who's playing lights out defense. Very very good team this year.

Gay has been amazing. I think Gay and Hayward are the best SFs in the NBA right now.

Interesting point, because that seems to be exactly what JT and Ben are doing. If they up the "occasional scoring" a tick, we're in serious business

Cuz and the Kings were getting some love during the Rockets/Spurs game with Reggie Miller in particular showing love to Big Cuz and saying he can't wait till he see's him on national TV against AD.

Anyone see Shaq and Barkley arguing about who the best big in the league is, Cousins or Davis? Shaq said Cuz and Bark said Davis is probably the next superstar. Shaq then said don't compare that soft power forward to a real big, "I'm talking about 5s" lol

Sometimes, it's good to have Shaq as one of our owners.

Both are great. But boogie is old school, back to basket, beat your head in great. Davis is more finesse and athleticism.

Together, I'd say Team USA is in a good spot, wouldn't you?

It's amazing how much hype Davis gets. Whenever he has a big game, everyone talk about how perfect he is.

Abnyone think about how his crazy stat line in the first game of the season came vs. the (1-4) Magic, who's only win has come on a game-winner against Philly?

Sure. But it was still a BIG statline. :)

I'm more concerned with Howard getting overcredited for putting up the huge line against Aron Baynes and Matt Bonner because Pop is throwing games again.

Davis is a legitimate star in the making. He has become a real threat from midrange. I think Cousins is more entertaining on a technical level (no pun intended), but if I were a gm, it would be easier to build around Davis.

Davis is a great basketball player. Davis and Boogie are different types of players players in their styles and very, very good at what they do.. I look forward to the next decade of watching both. I also am very happy that they may represent this country for a long time.

Boogie is much more dominant offensively, you can't go to Davis for a bucket right now. He is so active and physically gifted thought that he makes a difference, plus he stays on the floor longer than Cousins. I would say they're trajectories are different, Cousins is headed into a more Shaq territory where he is so strong no one can stop him without fouling and Davis is more in the Garnett or Duncan mold. Both will dominate the league for the next 10 years, and I can't wait for them to face off.

Perhaps. He's the obvious competition, but I have said and still think the issue there is that A.D. STILL is not a goto guy as I define them. You can't just throw him the ball and let him punish people. He needs other people to help him in pick and rolls etc. There will come a point at the end of a tough physical playoff game where that may matter, same way it always did with KG. When the going gets tough, you never want to get stuck with the finesse guy.

The key is really rim protection. Cousins is a better rebounder, a better post player, a better goto guy under my definition. If the defense holds, if he can be an effective roadblock in the middle then he has all the traits you need to be a major threat and 60 years of handbooks on how to build a major winner around him. If he can't, then you have the awkward fit of needing a shotblocking PF.

Yes, I saw this -
in addition, it was amazing to hear the similarity of what they were saying to the national audience (*cough* propagandizing *cough) and what Charles Barkley said immediately at the start of the TNT HQ segment.
It's like the group was contractually obligated to make the talking points of :
* Demarcus has greatly matured under the teachings of the National Team coaches and
* He can now lead his teams to victory.

Exactly as I predicted it would happen, and even earlier than I said....

I got a question? Can ANYONE stop him inside of 10 feet? One more question, How is he left off of a top 5 list for NBA centers? Last Question... Can we build a team around him that will compete for the championship.

What I don't like about this is that they totally discount the job that the Kings coaching staff and specifically Michael Malone has done. They did all the heavy lifting. Any help the National Team provided in the short period of time he was with them is greatly appreciated but come on !

Congratulations. We are not worthy :p

Davis and Cuz are different types of players. Davis is a 4 and Cuz is a 5. I think comparable players to Davis would be Blake Griffin. They both have different builds, but they have similar playing styles (in terms of offense). For Davis to do well on offense, he needs a PG. He gets a lot of his points on alley oops and dunks. He doesn't have a post move, but he does have a jumper. He's a good man's Faried.

At this point, I'm just glad they've stopped poisoning the well against DFC. Anything more would just be icing on the cake. ;)
