Demarcus Cousins wins 1st Rookie of the Month award

It was strange, and kind of a little embarrassing given Cousins' recent perfromances, so I th9oguht i'd just let it pass. ;)

May well have been decided upon on Friday, or at least before we played on Saturday. Still an odd award.

I think they made up that award real quick after watching the stinkers Cousins was putting up. (so they wouldn't look dumb.)

to be fair 1 of those 3 atrocious games he did come away with 16pts 12reb. So really just the last 2 pretty much sucked. My guess is he found his way to the casino friday night after payday friday lol.

I'm still trying to grasp why Cousins stopped trying... I hope it's because of fatigue but he might have given up and blamed it on his team mates, the refs, or the fact that it's only SL. I know he's better than this but he sure didn't deserve an award.

They made it up so fast that they traveled back in time to give the same award to Blake Griffin in 2009.

I feel that this award should have gone to Wall.

Now, if there was a "Rookie of the First Three Games" award....That woulda been all Cuz :p

For some reason, they give out a Most Outstanding Player for SL (Wall) and a Rookie of the Month for July (Cousins). Twice the opportunity for hype and promotion I guess, so it ruins it if they give both to one guy. ;) Last year, the MOP was Griffin, but ROM went to Flynn.

It was based on the first 5 games. Cousins had 3 obviously good games and the 4th was a good game also depending on how you look at it. He showed how he can dominate when he wants to. 4 double doubles in within five games, its not really that undeserving as some are saying. His "hype" made have helped as well as Vegas being the Maloof's backyard have.

John Wall could've won it but they knew he sat out a game on purpose and he did have a ton of TOs and shot poorly... like Cuz did in his last few games.

Congrats to DMC but I just hope he works on his conditioning a lot during these next few months and also have a mentor like a Hakeem to help him deal with moments when the game is not going his way.

Wall did win Most Outstanding Player of SL, which is really the headlining award above Rookie of the Month, in this case.

At best, I would say the MOP award is the equal of the ROM. Cousins' award is acutally reported on the headlines while I haven't seen anything for MOP on the front pages... yet. Both awards were basically based on this 1 week. So I guess its just 2 awards going to 2 winners.

LAS VEGAS — Washington point guard John Wall took home top honors as Most Outstanding Player in Las Vegas after leading all players in scoring (23.5 ppg) and assists (7.8 apg). Fellow rookie DeMarcus Cousins was honored as T-Mobile Rookie of the Month for his impressive Summer League showing. Below are the rest of the players named to the All-Tournament team.

MOP is the top award because every player in SL is eligible, not just the rookies. Last year, Blake Griffin won MOP and Jonny Flynn won July ROM, and I don't think there was any question that Griffin had the bigger SL by far.

I saw the reports, I said I didn't see them posting it in the front page headlines like they did for Cousins' award yesterday. That made it seem less important than ROM.

I see why you think MOP is a bigger award and I don't have a problem with it. I just like to think that our guy's award is more important, considering he is officially the Rookie of the Month for the entire July while SL is just 1 week.
