I haven't had a chance to watch any clips other than what they've showed on NBATV. I'm surprised by his ball handling. I didn't expect him to be able to handle like that on the break.

Dude's hops are seriously underrated. He can get up, maybe with his higher weight recently he hasn't been able to get up as much, but if he gets his weight down I think we can be seeing some dudes get DUNKED ON! He's got some of the greatest skills for a nearly 300 pound man...

Other than one full court pass, you didn't get to see his passing skills. He's a very good passer out of the post when doubled, and as you can see, he handles the ball very well. Bear in mind that you were watching highschool ball. But he did the same thing in college, he just had to work a little harder. When you see his skill level, and remember that he's still very young, were lucky to have him.

Watching this video you can really see how well he can handle the ball. Gets me even more excited to see him play :D

Summer League can't come fast enough!

Another think to notice is that when he gets the ball in the post, there's no hesitation. He doesn't think about it, he simply reacts..

Yes, that's exciting to see.

On a side note...as Demarcus been signed yet? of course, we are going to sign him, but has the actual signing taken place.

I don't know much about how that works....sorry.

Petrie made a big point of that in one of his postdraft interviews. While Cousins wasn't looked upon to pass a lot at UK, when you break down the tapes he passes with great awareness and precision.

As of today's Bee, not yet but the team expects to have both guys signed this week before Summer League.

What I read was they expect Cousins to be signed some time next week. Whiteside can't be signed until a new salary cap has been set, which will happen July 8th. For those who would ask why can Cousins be signed and not Whiteside. Cousins max amount is set in stone, while Whiteside, because he was a second round pick and there is no set amount, could then be signed for any amount allowed for a first year player. While that wouldn't matter to us because were under the cap, it could matter to a team thats over or near the cap. Therefore you have to wait and see what the cap is going to be.

I'm so excited to watch his passing skills develop. Watching his hs videos especially, you can see he has a natural feel for moving the ball. Rebounding, post scoring AND elite passing skills? Can't wait to watch him and the team grow this season!

What makes it even more amazing to me is that he didn't start playing basketball til he was in 8th grade. He has developed his skills to a fairly high level in a short period of time. Makes you see why Coach Cal says he has the biggest upside of anyone in the draft.

yeah in one of those dunks, he looks like he got up pretty high. He probably has more hops in him with a lower weight.

He may be 285+ pounds. I have watched several videos from Kentucky and what not. He just don't look like he is fat at all. he doesn't look like Eddy Curry rumbling down the court or anything. I can't wait to see him against some of these Centers like what we have had the past 5 years. Brad Miller, Spencer, Kaman, Okafor....etc. I just don't see the likes of Noah keeping DMC from getting his position on the block.

It should be fun. Cousins is very good at sealing his defender either from the front, or from behind for a backdoor pass. He's also clever at fending off his defender with his off arm by using it as a barrier or a fence post if you will when he goes up for his hook shot. He's also very smart about not giving up his pivot foot until he's ready to make his move. He has great hands and seldom mishandles a pass. I can't wait for summer league..

Thanks Bajaden for clarifying, so what could be the max and length of contracts for 1st rounders?

Thanks Bajaden for clarifying, so what could be the max and length of contracts for 1st rounders?

First round contracts are governed by the CBA and there is very little flexibility on them. There is a base salary for each pick (determined several years ago) and the basic structure is four years long, with the first two years guaranteed and the second two years consecutive team options. Most of the time, the team options are picked up except on disappointing late first-rounders. After the fourth year, the player becomes a restricted free agent as long as the team makes a qualifying offer.

For Cousins, the base salaries are:
First year: $2,812,200
Second year: $3,023,100
Third year: $3,234,000
Fourth year: $4,097,478

However, a team may sign a player for as little as 80% or as much as 120% of that number, usually the latter. So Cousins will probably make a bit more than that.

It's really exciting to see how skilled this kid is and to think he only started playing organized ball in 8th grade. I truly believe that those who made comments that this kid can be as good as he wants to be. I hope he learns quickly!

The floor spacing in that vid resembles NBA more than college- that's what he's gonna look like with a little room. I'm as excited as you guys are for sure. Add to that his attitude of wanting to bring toughness to the Kings and his appreciation of big man skills- sheesh! I just can't believe it's the Kings getting this sort of luck. =)

Great Vid!
Now you can imagine why he wanted to play SF during college ;)
He was in Highschool already a big guy!

I'm looking forward to the summer league game. Its too bad we won't get to see him and Evans on the floor then. For the first time in a while, I'm really excited for the new, regular season. :D

Another thing that Coach Cal said was when you talk to DeMarcus, you find out that this is one very smart young man. I think Petrie echoed that.
