you are right. rebounding does not equal defense. it is only an aspect of the greater whole of "defense." however, as poor as the kings are defensively, they score enough to beat just about any team in the nba. one might then ask "why didnt the kings beat more teams last season that they should have beat?" well...the kings score aplenty, but they give up too many points also. if they were to cut down the second, third, and fourth chance points by 3/4, maybe just even a half, then they will have given themselves an edge that wasnt there last season. evans may not be a "force to be reckoned with," but he's one helluva banger, especially when compared to the rest of the kings Charmin Ultrasoft squad. if he, or someone like him, could give quality defensive/rebounding minutes off thye bench, then the kings will have added a dimension, however small, that wasnt present last season and that they are in desperate need of. if petrie aint gonna trade any of the core, then the kings are gonna be an offensively minded team. and, depending on one's view of what it takes to win a championship, this could be a good thing or a bad thing. regardless, an inexpensive banger/rebounder like evans would be able to help the kings plenty. he may not do wonders for the team, but he, or someone like him, could shave off several points from the opposition's final score by limiting their second chance points, and would therefore give the kings squad of this coming year an advantage over the one that finished so poorly last season. imo, thats a start.
