Defense?!?! Playoffs?!?!

Everybody seems to harp on these two things. I get it we are defensively terrible but, improving‍♂️. Thing is this has never worked for this franchise, it is just not in its cultural DNA. Focusing on trying to improve defense always gets lost to the law of diminishing returns. As far as playoffs are you joking? Making that the goal is like trying to go top five in an Olympic event. Trouble is this franchise culture is all about good times and laid back efforts. Always has been, not gonna change or at least not likey to. Why do you think many players love it here? They get treated great even when they’re bums. The only thing to save it is chemistry.
Remember the last time we were “good”. Things were rolling along pretty good then Divac traded Shumpert. Now in all fairness Shumps performance on the floor was not good. what he added in creating chemistry and identity for the team was priceless. With him gone young guys like Willie drank the sour grape juice and what was a great start to the season ended back in the downward spiral. Why do the Yankees despite statistically having the best power hitters not win every year? Cause you can’t just take a bunch of stat junkies and turn that into wins oh and pitching. Anyway, takes more than good players to win. You role players have to be right as well sometimes the guy pulling pranks and acting a fool while contributing 6pts and 2rbs is really important. I just don’t see this team becoming a winner through the playbook of like the Bucks unless of course we’re getting Giannis then might be worth a try.

I've become convinced the #1 problem is the power structure; there hasn't been synergy for the entirety of this 16 year drought. Look no further than how the Giants have turned things around; 107 wins last year and well on their way to 100+ this year; it starts with everyone in the organization being on the same page. It's Farhan's show and if you want to be employed by the Giants, you follow his lead. You hear NOTHING about the Giants ownership, something A's fans would yearn to feel. And guess what; that's strong leadership/continuity from the FO has shown the results on the field.

It looks like Monte is getting to install his power structure finally, but is it too late? Will he get the time to see the results after having to carry Walton for 2 years? What is Dumars actual role? Is Vivek actually stepping out of the way? Until these problems are fixed, it's hard to see anything really being fixed on the court. Ownership-GM-Coach have to be all in sync.

It starts from the top down. Rarely hiring the right people. When they do, they let them go too early or they give their job duty powers to some other new hire who they think is better. This results in the GM not getting who he wants. The coaches not getting who they want and the players settling in to the same old losing ways.

George Karl is a perfect example. Great coach. Strong personality. Won 57 games with a Nuggets team led by Iggy, Lawson, Gallo and Faried, just two years before he got hired by the Kings. He obviously did not like Cousins and wanted Cousins traded so he could have the team structured his way. Instead, they force the two to work together. It fails predictably. Don't hire Karl if you want to keep Cousins. If you do hire Karl, then do what he says because he's had more success than anyone in the Kings organization. Don't hire him and then make him do things he doesn't think will lead to success.

So they hire Dave Joerger. Another good coach who has the experience and resume to win with a player like Cousins. Great decision. What do they do? Ship Cousins out halfway through the year. A couple years later, Joerger has led the Kings to their best record in well over a decade. All this despite the power struggle with Brandon Williams, who is given power by Vivek over Vlade and Joerger on certain calls like drafting Bagley. What do they do? Fire Joerger and claim he can be a bit of a meanie to the players.

Its sad how every offseason the poor kings fans hope and pray that "this is the year" the ship is righted. Won't happen cause the one constant still remains. Vivek is a sports moron. Thats not gonna change and he's not going anywhere.
