Darius Songaila- a passer?

Hey guys- i'm pretty sure RA knows this but Darius is a really good passer from the high post, just like Brad and Webb. I was wondering why can't we run some more play through Darius cuz we all know he can definitely shoot from the elbow just like Brad and Webb.

Theres too many times I've been noticing that the Kings offense has been way too stagnant, just waiting for Bibby to create a play. Why not try to go through our old "high post" play through Darius until Brad gets back? Plus it will take a lot of defense attention off Bibby.

Just a thought. What do u guys think?

I am a bit surprised that they don't go to it more often...Darius has shown he's capable of doing it and they have had some success with it

:shrugs: I dunno

Thats true, but thats mostly on the defensive end where he makes mistakes- I swear in the last few games he has made several great layup-creating passes down low. i just don't understand why they dont do it more often.

There are probably limits to how often you can go to that and still be efficient (i.e. it works better when the defense relaxes than they are keyed on it), and it becomes a real problem if the play breaks down and there you are with time running out and Darius Songaila having to do something creative to get a shot up.

This ain't no April Fools joke is it ???

I'm sorry about that ... I'm still embrassed from ALMOST falling for that other one .... geez !!!

Anyhow, back to the topic at hand .... this may have already been said in some other thread, but in order for the King's to be an effective "ASSIST HIGH" team, ALL PLAYERS must develop acceptable PASSING SKILLS.

Look at Skinner, in the short amount of time he's been here, he's working and developing into a nice PASSING PLAYER. Thomas, as well.

Yes, Darius has "threaded the needle" for well deserved assists and he continues to improve here ... I tell ya ... I love it when the King's passing game is ON !!!

This makes sense. We definitely need something to help draw some of the defensive attention off of Bibby. After he went on that super-human streak during those games right after the Webber trade, opposing teams have been swarming him early to keep him from getting into any sort of rhythm at the start. I'm up for anything when it comes to getting him and Mobley into the game in the 1st quarter instead of the 4th.

First he needs to learn how to stay out of foul trouble so we could count on some consistant minutes

As much as I love what Skinner brings to the table, defenses are able to sag off of him, which closes off a lot of the passing lanes when you run the high post offense. Defenses have to pick their poison with the Kings:

1.) step out on all shooters and leave the basket open (see Dallas Mavericks of 2002 Playoffs)

2.) sag into the lane and force jump shots (this is working right now with the way Bibby has been shooting)

Without 5 good shooters on the floor, You will constantly see the 2nd option on defense. Pick-N-Roll with our best shooter and best rebounder is the best option right now until Brad gets back.
