CWebb spotted in Vegas talking with Maloofs.....

This is an important tidbit, also from Marty Mac:

"Sources within the past month told Marty Mac’s World Webber had been working with a group that wanted to buy the Kings from the Maloofs.

However, the Maloofs steadfastly have insisted the franchise is not for sale. Webber’s group was unable to get a meeting with the Maloofs."

Really, we knew all that already. But what this means is now they're at least meeting with Webber (and presumably his group). That's special.

Webber and Burkle joining forces to save the day from a family of money blowing doofballs?

Go team C-Burk!!!

It's interesting given they are meeting someone who is fighting to get the Kings to stay.

Hopefully its a sign that they want to sell but realistically, its just them showing some respect to the greatest player to ever play on their team. They will listen to what he has to say but they will still be stubborn to budge on anything Webber suggests.

IF this is true and IF is means anything, I took it as the Maloof's realizing it is likely that the NBA might reject their application to move, so they better start coming up with a backup plan for Sacramento. i.e. listening to Webb's proposal to take over that $70 million note to the city.

This seems likely. Its never been exactly clear what Webb was proposing, but the Maloofs have very stubbornly clung to the "we ain't selling" line. However given how much they appear to need the Anaheim money, and how uncertain that appears to be at this point, perhaps this is a sign now that they are willing to listen to anybody able to find them some more money out of the Sacramento situation.

Then again, maybe they just want to put in their relocation papers that they met in good faith (*cough*) with interested parties, etc. etc., but that no acceptable terms could be worked out.

If the Kings stay, the Maloofs will need to repair their relationship with the fans. Who better to facilitate that then CWebb?

Maybe the Webber group is offering the Maloofs a loan to stay. :p

I could see it being something like this:

Webber and a group buy the loan from the City. Maloofs then owe Webber's group. City now in better position to generate some kind of public/private partnership, not already being owed 67mil by Maloofs.

I think the biggest impact this would have would be on the politicians in charge of the public side of the pub/priv partnership. Doesn't look nearly that bad for them. Heck... they'll have just gotten an infusion of 77mil into their city budget. That's huge.

As a second step... there could be an issuing of bonds that are either backed or bought by a Webber(/Burkle) group. That way, although the cash for an Arena would run through the City, no actual public funds are at risk. They could be very low yeild bonds to make it look better for the city. Lord knows it's not the interest on the bonds that would be why Web/Burkle would buy them. Just to facilitate the deal.

I think this is the best bet for getting an arena deal FINANCED. For BUILT, that's really not a problem. It's getting it financed. And I think so much has been made of this 77 mil owed on Arco that politically it looks very bad if the city is contributing in some way (even if no public funds are actually at risk) to a new arena if they are still owed that large chunk (which is even upside down) on the current arena. You've got to understand it politically from the point of view of the city council.

Someone call Speilberg, this really COULD be made into pretty good movie! Wow...well, I know I'm not a psychic...but I'd have to believe that C-Webb wasn't just in Vegas to talk to the Maloofs about DJ Paulie D at the Palms. This 'meeting' was a good sign, IMO.

Fantastic. If Webb's efforts somehow work out, I think it becomes completely crucial that we commission a bronze statue of Burkle throwing an alley-oop to Webb while dunking on the entire Maloof family.

Hey, doesn't Here We Build have $700,000 lying around?:p

What? Link?

I think he's confusing the 9 million in corporate pledges that Mayor Johnson reported to the NBA BOG last week (usually reported as 7 million, but Stern said "I thought it was 9") with the Here We Build pledges.

Jiffy Lube itself? No way.

I think the conversation had something to do with a lawnmower.

LMAO he's calling in that debt, The guy they begged to stay in Sac now asks the maloof to stay in Sacramento, role reversal...

what ever they talk about, C-webb can work it out....

CWebb makes a good tag team with KJ. CWebb is intelligent but all about emotion. KJ is like a machine, a well oiled machine. They both have a fire burning in them. We are lucky whether it works out or not. I certainly can see why the Maloofs would stop and chat or even arrange to chat with CWebb as opposed to anyone else. I think they speak on the same level as the Maloofs are emotional also.

We will just have to wait and see what happened. KJ has been silent lately though... not a peep or word. what Im reading about are certain groups like the one with 11k signatures,

My understanding was Webber had a group that was willing to offer some kind of deal to restructure the city's loan. I assume it would mean a favorable refinancing of the loan (city paid off) that would lower their annual debt payments. Lowering debt payments has the same effect on the bottom line as increasing revenue does.
