Cousins SUSPENDED! (merged)

“I was wondering why Cousins was out there in his uniform waiting for them to finish his postgame show,” said Bill Schoening, who does the play-by-play call on radio broadcasts of Spurs games. “Then I saw them in an animated conversation out on the court.

I observed Sean walk away from Cousins and Cousins continue to talk to Sean as he left the scene, but I couldn’t hear what was being said.”
We have no idea what was said as we didn't witness it. But, when someone usually walks away after an animated conversation and the other guy continues talking, it's usually nothing nice. If Cuz was calling Elliot names or maybe threatened him in any way as Elliot walked away, that could be a possibility for the suspension.

I don't know, I do think the league is becoming too soft. Way too soft. At the same time, none of us were there.

still though. this is ridiculous. an "animated conversation" is a 2 game suspension? are u FN serious? and its not like it was on TV during the game, i can see how that might look bad. while World Peace only gets a 7 game suspension for trying to take Hardens head off.

I think a better example is the NBA basically just said, if Cuz elbowed Duncan in the throat, the way TRob did the other night, the penalty would be the same as whatever the conversation was between Cuz/Elliot. How is throwing an elbow at someones throat the same as arguing with an announcer?

Another lesson I'm afraid, let your game do the talking. The best way to shut these people up is to get 25 and 15. Simple as that. We've all heard multiple "away team" broadcasters comment on his "body language," his "immature label" etc etc etc. The best way to get rid of that label isn't to confront colour commentators after games.

I doubt what he did warranted this (doubt) but i hope this puts and end to post match confrontations.

Agreed. Time for Cousins to start growing up and if some punishments from the league help, I'm all for it. It's a man's league. Time to start acting like it

It's a man's league, but verbal confrontations are suspension worthy because people's feelings get hurt? Please...this TWO GAME suspension is a freakin' joke. Unless he threatened to murder the guy, this is an absolute joke. Un-freakin'-believable.

Perhaps it is harsh relative to Robinsons elbow throwing but Cousins continues to make bad decisions and paint himself (and the team) in a bad light. I read what Sean Elliot said and what was said was pretty close to the truth. Cousins should just shut his mouth and play ball. Elliott is just an announcer. So what. Grow up already.

Returning to the court to confront another team's employees is enough of a problem without even knowing if it escalated to threats. And the fact that this anchor he is creating for himself continues to get heavier and these kinds of responses will just continue.

Honestly, how are we even defending this? He reacted like a child because he heard someone said something mean. Just stop and consider the absurdity of his actions before we jump on the reaction.

So the NBA is controlling player's freedom of speech in private situations? As long as he didn't threaten him, there is no way a 2 game suspension is justifiable. NBA sure likes their drama.

He did it a league arena during a league event in front of witnesses and potentially paying customers. It's not like it was a phone call. And its very possible he did threaten him.

I love Cousins and think he is the future of this franchise. But this stuff has to get under control.

This is not a freedom of speech issue. You're a representation of the league. Same reason you can't freely call fans a-holes when you're walking off the court.

If any of you are totally blown away by a 2 game suspension, then you are not alone. Veteran NBA media are clueless as to why they went hard core on this. Maybe going back to Rasheed Wallace waiting after the game to fight another player I think only got him a two game suspension. Cousins by all accounts was just having words with Elliott on his comments. No fighting or anything close to that.

Cousins clearly has a huge target on his back obviously. He should never have put himself in that position. But the thing is, unless cousins listens to TV broadcasts in game, who the heck told him about what Elliott said? They need a talking to because that amounts to baiting an emotional player. If it was someone on the Kings staff, they deserve a two day suspension without pay for doing something obviously stupid.

Just my two cents, Elliott has had a huge bug up his butt about Sacramento since he was drafted into the league. The Kings bypassed him at #1 and he was livid. He thought he was the best player in the draft. The other deal that bothers me is that Tim Duncan gets too much credit for being perfect in all ways. It's like there should be some sort special Duncan treatment about trash talking him. I don't know how many times I've listened to junk like Duncan never complains or how he is just workman like out there on the court. It's patently false. He's whines about as much as any other player and more than some. He's a great player no doubt. But he's not worthy of half the praise he gets on that.

Is this some sort of over the board reason to indirectly help those Lakers that never won a preseason against us?

Overprotecting guys like Elliot just dropped the game's credibility.
What's next? Players get suspended talking trash with Spike Lee?

so what will be the Kings front line look like now? Hawes and J.Thompson, who else do we have since T-Rob is still suspended correct?

Cussing at fans during a live game could actually be considered worse than what happened here. yet Steve Blake was only fined $25k for that, no suspension

And the hits keep coming. Two Bigs against the reeling Lakers. Outlaws gonna end up playing center with Reke as a PF.

Two game suspension for TALKING???? What next technicals for facial expression.....oh wait.......

Regardless if the suspension is warranted or not, Cousins put himself in this position. What some commentator says shouldn't be able to get to him so easily.

I have to agree. I do understand Cousins' frustration but he absolutely MUST learn to control his emotions and his outbursts. His talents will mean nothing if he's not able to be on the floor to use them.
