Statement from Westphal

“Whenever a new season begins, in any sport, there is great hope that everything will progress in only a steady, upward direction. As we all know, it seldom happens like that in this life!

As coaches, we can only ask that our players do everything they can to improve themselves as individuals and teammates. If they do this with all their hearts, we live with the results.

Everything that happens on a team does not become known to the public. This is how it should be. However, when a player continually, aggressively, lets it be known that he is unwilling/unable to embrace traveling in the same direction as his team, it cannot be ignored indefinitely.

DeMarcus Cousins has demanded to be traded. In the best interest of our team as we go forward, he has been directed by me, with the support of management, to stay home from the New Orleans game tonight.”

Amick said this?

Shocking Kings statement released regarding DeMarcus Cousins, who was sent home from the team's home game against New Orleans tonight.
Whoa whoa wait here. Please post a link to a source or I'm going to have to lock this until it hits the wires.

4 games in and PW has completely LOST control of the team! I'm not making excuses for Cousins because it's pretty evident that he's very immature but it's a fact that the players don't respect PW. When that happens, it's over. He needs to be fired.

And the decision to send him home... This just does not bode well for his future here. He is not the type of person to forget something like this. It seems like the wheels are starting to fall off, and I'm surprised at management's decision to support Westphal. Although to be fair, if Cousins is really acting up then you can't let him away with it.

Just very disappointed right now. This is not going to end well for anyone.

Cousins immature idiocy continues after Kings had hopes it was getting under control. He thinks he's bigger than the team, smarter than the coaches, a superstar (in his mind) who get away with anything and always wants it his way. He's a damn childish fool and it's just pathetic!

I agree. Though if this franchise loses DMC, then we need to take a long, hard look at how this team has been ran.

It sounds like something like this went down ..

Cousins said something along the lines of "If you don't do *Blank* then trade me" or "I don't want to play here anymore ( or with this coach )"

And the Kings clearly took it literally .. which is something they would be allowed to do, cause he did say it..

But its likely Cousins didn't technically demand to be traded like the way a player would normally do it .. by going to his agent first, and that is why his agent is saying he never did it.

Sent home is one thing. Demands to be traded is the one that gets my attention. That's a pretty blatant me or the coach sort of play. And given my evaluation fo the talent level of the player and the coach, one that if I were running the team I would be quickly responsive to, although it bodes all kinds of ill down the line. You've got to somehow get him to come back, without the promise you are going to fire the coach, then fire the coach anyway, then piece it all back together.

You could see this in his quotes yesterday. Which I would imagine Westphal confronted him about. At which point Cousins, still being immature, no doubt exploded.

Regardless though, you can't do this to your franchise. Not for the sake of a mediocrity like Paul Westphal. Its not even a debate really. You could ruin your whole future by backing somebody irrelevant.

Plus we have SO MUCH control over him for a long time contractually. We would never ever ever ever ever ever trade him right now. We would never get close to full value.

So he isn't going anywhere, but this still totally blows.

just when you think you have acquired the talent to be a force in the future.. this happens, undoubtedly if Cousins is traded, not only do we lose any hope for the future of this franchise, we might also lose the entire franchise to a different city

Bolded part. Yes. You can't let him think he just calls the shots.
