Cousins in SI ... GET IT!

There's a really good article in this week's Sports Illustrated about Demarcus Cousins by Ian Thomsen.

"More than 3,000 fans of his new team showed they were believers...the instant they heard his name..." - referring to the Kings faithful gathered in Arco to view the 2010 NBA draft on the jumbotron.

"Nearly 3,000 miles away, news of the celebration he had set off in California was received with surprise and relief by Cousins..."

Fellow Kings fans, I think this could be the beginning of a beautiful friendship.

:)

EDIT: Here's the link, thanks to Packt and Beb0p...

That fan video is so great, I had to watch the crowd reaction several times. For once the popular pick, the right pick, and the actual pick were all one, and everybody felt it.

The fan video was filmed by a friend of mine. I believe you're talking about that the one that was shot by Christina Heidt correct?

Yeah her vid rocked, so does the one that Kingsflix made. It was nice to be there for that, and cool that our appreciation is appreciated. =p

Do you have the title to the article? Trying to find it online

"The Big Question Mark" by Ian Thomsen. I couldn't find a link ... maybe they delay posting the stories? Anyway, it's an EXCELLENT article.

The video wasn't on Youtube IIRC so don't think it can be found there. I don't have a link but yeah if someone has one we could use it. =)

Great read.

I'd noticed the past week that vague references to "red flags" dwarf mention of anything specific by about 1000 to 1. Geoff confirms that here, saying it basically boils down to an incident when he was a high school sophomore which maybe wasn't even what people make it out to be.

I would hope we'd still have drafted him even if he didn't pull a "Douby" in the Kings workout, but I'm happy that he did just to be safe. :)

Is he too much of a hothead? The Kings answer by saying that they would not have picked Cousins so high if they had not valued his passion. "I don't think you can give somebody a motor who doesn't have one," says Petrie. "But if a guy's got a motor, you've got a chance to get it running on all cylinders."
Ok, who the hell is this guy, and what has he done wiht our GM. You know the guy who spent half a decade trying to build teams around such famous high motor guys as Peja Stojakovic, Brad Miller, Shareef Abdur-Rahim, John Salmons and Kevin Martin?

BTW, after you figure out who this guy is and what they've done with the real Geoff, you can tell them they can keep him. :p

One thing you can say about the man is that he learns from his mistakes. I think the fans (and owners) loved the aforementioned guys so much that Petrie was reluctant to part ways with them. They were still filling the Arena, and coincidentally once Bibby was gone the attendance dipped as well. But boy oh boy I 've got this strange feeling that that Arena is going to be ROCKING again sometime very soon.....

IDK... but I like him. I always knew he had it - so far so good.

I think it has more to do with his being a Laker. Old rivalry's die hard..

Yeah, I think it's just that...if Shaq was still a Laker, Gavin and Joe would have said DMC would be pushing him around too. Great read, and I'm on board with everyone else now...can't wait to see the ManChild known as DMC grow up right before our eyes!

It does seem to be kinda an odd guy to pick given that he is already a bit of an outcast/whipping boy for the Lakers himself. Kind of like picking the weakest in the herd. You want to challenge the Lakers seems you go pick on Kobe or Pau or Phil or even Ron given his ego. But Andrew Bynum? Do the Lakers even care if you pick on Bynum? They probably agree with you.
