Cousins goal is ROY!

One thing I'm sure of, if a person doesn't set goals for themselves, it won't happen. Good for DeMarcus. I like it. He may or may not be the ROY at season's end, but I want him to go for it! :)

Indeed!!:) I'm thinking he'll get around 16pts/10reb/3-4asts/1-2 blocks, but that's a low bar estimate...if he achieves anything higher I definitely think he's got the best shot at ROY.

How many minutes do you think he'll play?

I can't speak for Circa, but I think he'll play somewhere between 24 and 30 minutes. With the 30 minutes coming more toward the latter part of the year. So my guess is that he'll average around 26/27 minutes a game. If he averages more than that, then he'll exceed my first year expectations..

Last year, only one center got more than 3 assists. The year before? 2. And you think that a rookie center is going to not only get this, but that it is a "low bar" estimate? What would a regular estimate be then? Those glasses you're wearing, exactly how much tint is in them?

Ehhh, ROY would be great, but I'm more excited about the possible dominating duo these two can produce together. Their chemistry already seems great. If they can pan out to their potential then I don't think you can have a more ideal championship contender frontcourt tandem. They'd be a perfect match for eachother. It's not likely to have both pan out, but if they do, watch out!

You see him in summer league? I still cannot really think of a comparison to what he was doing as a passer. Not even the great guys like Walton and Vlade were that quick and fluid with their passes. They set people up. But Cousins really looked almost like a guard just making it up along the way.

Its unlikely as a rookie, but not impossible. If he gets fired up as a major player and that was anything but a fluke, I don't think there's any center int he NBA who is going to be close to him as a passer.

I guess thats why he told Calipari he wanted to be a guard. Welcome back guy.

Yeah, I saw summer league. He has the knack, but to say 3-4 as a "low bar," inferring that a 5ast average would be medium bar, doesn't accurately represent the league. I swear when numbers come up, some posters just post things out of NBA2k and not what the scope of the NBA is for the past 5 years.

Can it happen? Yes, NBA records are made all the time. To post them in such a light that what would be a "low bar" is dismissive of both how hard it is at any rookie to average 4 assists, but doesn't even take into account that centers are far more disadvantaged at that particular stat category.

Following are the numbers of playesr who averaged over 3 assists in their rookie years. In parenthesis are players who are not generally accepted point guards.

2010: 8 PG/"lead" guards: 8 (Tyreke)
2009: 5 PG/"lead" guards: 5 (Mayo)
2008: 2 PG/"lead" guards: 2
2007: 5 PG/"lead" guards: 5 (Roy)
2006: 5 PG/"lead" guards: 5

So out of the 25 rookies in the last 5 years who averaged 3 assists (paltry to some of you, I know), only 3 were not "pure" point guards, and all of them currently occupy the SG spot in some capacity. How many forwards/centers? None. How many even got close? Some guy named Kevin Durant.

Is it doable? Sure, anything can happen. A beast of a man can get 100 points in a game. A beast of a man can average 3 assists in his rookie season. Is it likely? No. Is it probable? No. Is it something that would be a "low bar?" No.

People on here throw out numbers without any regard to how hard it is to attain what you guys want. "20/10," 2 blocks, and so on and so forth. 3 assists from a rookie center would not only be amazing, but something that most centers never do.

Cheer and hope and be optimists all you want, but this numbers proliferation game that goes on in here just demeans their performance and creates an image of basketball that doesn't exist in the real world.

I think a lot will depend on two things - PT and the playsets. If he can stay out of foul trouble (which I think will be closely tied to conditioning and stamina) and the plays run with him on the floor are conductive to assists, then yeah, maybe he can get 3 a game as a rookie. But let's see how everything plays out on the stamina/PT/PF front first before we worry about the number of assists he will be getting.

Certainly Cousins has the potential to be ROY. It will depend on the rotation first and foremost. If he gets his minutes then he will have a shot. I am just so excited this year (well every year I am, but this year a bit more). I find this summer break unbearable. At least we have got the World championships. Despite all my will to do everything possible to see a Kings game while I was in the states between 22nd of October and 1st of November, the bloody bastards who made pre-season and regular season schedules put all the games away from home while I am in San Francisco :-( But one thing is certain; Kings will be one of the most exciting teams to watch this year and we will have plenty to discuss. I am guessing in 2 years time this board will start to focus on the missing piece to be at least a contender if not 'world' champion.

I think it'll end up being something like the situation with Curry last year. Blake and/or Wall will have good and more consistent whole seasons and Cousins will have a great second half. Kings PR dept. should start ramping up the spoiler machine.

Come on Brick, let's be honest with ourselves here, there's no way he's as good a passer as Darko.

Here is the exchange between Brick and Kahn earlier tonight:

Kahn: Darko is just really an excellent passer, I have never seen a big man thread the needle the way he does on a consistent basis.

Bricklayer: You also seem to be completely absent a brain, tell me something, do the other owners even allow you to attend CBA meetings???

Kahn: Well I'll tell you what Brick, I don't really need a brain to say with complete certainty that Darko can throw behind the back passes just like, if not better than Cousins.

Bricklayer: DeMarcus Cousins??? ... Wow... Just... Wow.
