cousins fined and benched for giving the choke sign

Bench
I don't know if it has been posted or not but DeMarcus Cousins has been fined and benched for giving the "choke" sign last night

Well that's stupid. A fine I can see, but benching, really? Seems a bit extreme to me. They're just trying to make him the scapegoat for the loss.

I'm for it. I'm guessing it just means he will come off the bench for one game. But it was an emotional and immature moment and I'm glad Westphal is setting an example now. Hopefully Cousins learns, you just don't do that.

Lame, who we trying to impress, fans? I can understand some warning and a kick in the ***..

Reggie Miller says hi:

This is beyond stupid. The coach has lost his mind.

Players taunt each other all the time. He was doing it to try and get in the Warriors heads at the free thrown line. And it kind of worked as they DID miss a few free throws down the stretch.

Why do we continue to put so much blame on him. Maybe it's the damn coaches fault.

Petrie should fine and bench Westphal for putting Pooh-Beno-Garcia-Landry out there together for critical fourth quarter minutes. This organization puts way to much blame on the players. Look in the ****ing mirror. Your a terrible Coach. Your garbage offense is non existent. How bout a suspension for that??

This coaching staff is an absolute joke.

I'm not a fan of anti taunting rules. I'd much rather players be allwoed to express themselves.

I realize that they have new rules now, but I've seen a lot of players do the same thing. Barkley did it many times in his career. Is this a team thing or a league thing with the fine. I ask because the official was standing right there and didn't do a thing. Seems to me that if the official isn't going to do anything, the worse that should have happened was a good talking to by Westphal or Petire.

I can imagine this is really gonna help his morale. He'll be thinking i can't do anything right **** this team.

I'm sure there will be plenty of people siding with the coach on this one but to bench our best player (collectively over recent games) is just complete and utter madness IMO and reckless

Precisely. This is just a dumb *** move by the coaching staff. Draconian punishment for something as silly as giving a choke sign is the LAST THING this team, which is already in shambles as it is needs.

I've been trying to give Westphal the benefit of doubt but if he's the one behind this, he just lost a lot of my support. You don't bench and fine a player for giving a GD choke sign.

if Boogie was benched last night we might have won the game. Cousins is my favorite player on the Kings but he should have been pulled last night.

It's not stupid. You're dealing here with a juvenile. Not an adult. You don't treat it like it's a one-off when it's a series of incidents. At some point, there must be some boundaries that are drawn and they must be enforced. The rationalization that it's the coache's fault is beyond ridiculous.

Then that's on westphal for not taking action when he shoud have. You don't wait until the next day and then take action. **** Westphal. I'm done defending him.

Any boundaries that disallow players giving a choke sign are just plain stupid. This isn't grade school where everyone has to "play nice". For crying out loud, players have to have some leeway in which to express themselves.

Would he have been fined if the Kings had won? Probably not.

OTOH, it probably did provide a little more motivation to our new Overlords.

I think the real issue here, though, is that no member of a team that's under .200 should be taunting any member of any other team, ever. A professional should realize that.

"We lose over 80% of the time, and we have you beat! Nyah-nyah, you can't get me!"

Seconds later: D'oh.

Yeah, I guess I'd be mad too.

Its not the coaches fault Cousins DID the choke thing. But the coaching staff deserves a lot of blame for the overall mess we have here, and they arent taking any of it.

Westphal plays favorites. Its obvious. Remember this picture?

How is that ok, but the choke thing isnt?

1) Its Tyreke Evans
2) We arent going to suspend someone after the largest comeback in NBA history.

If we had won last night, Cousins doesnt get benched or fined. No way in hell.

How about the time last season where Hawes mentioned that the players didnt know there roles on the team? Hawes was suspended. Tyreke says the same thing and he doesnt get suspended.

The players need to learn how to be professionals, sure. So does the coach.

There is no consistency with how Westphal coaches on the court or off the court. On the court, we are a mess with no offense, no set rotations. People just play whenever for no rhyme or reason. Some players can make a mistake and get yanked, others can make 100 mistakes and stay in the game. No accountability.

Off of the court is the same thing. No consistency with how players are handled. We treat some players like garbage, and praise others.

Not sure if you're for or against what happened...

1) But 15yrs ago isn't that long in a league that's been around over 60yrs. All of the sudden people today are more sensitive?

2) If winning is the difference... makes the punishment even more pathetic.

All this extra attention is gonna do is make the sports shows talk even more crap about Cuz (and us as a team)...

1. It's not particularly practical to judge what you could get away with fifteen years ago with what you can get away with today.

2. My memory may be faulty, but didn't the Pacers win that game?

I'm going to go against the grain on this one.

He did something dumb, and while the loss was karmic enough to maybe learn his lesson, a fine/benching might keep him from doing something even dumber in the future. He is, after all, still a kid, and sometimes kids need to get in trouble to know what things are/aren't OK. To assume he wouldn't have had the same repercussions after a victory is without merit.

Fire away.

Uh, what? A quarter of the time isn't long? 25% isn't significant? Since when?
