Courtney Fortson has declared!!

He has until May 8th to go back to Arkansas, but I thought this was noteworthy to all you Courtney Fortson haters. 1st, I think this is the smartest move for a PG in a draft that doesn't have many PGs. Scouting reports say he is 5'11, IF THAT, but he can dunk and finish plays. More of a facilitator than a pure scorer, but has a slasher mentality. Cut from diamond, already possesses an NBA body. Cannot shoot freethrows well. NBA comparison Bobby Jackson. Projected 2nd round pick.

Hmm. Looks like of all the times he's been mentioned on this site, there was a grand total of one that was dismissive of Courtney Fortson. The rest were you jocking him up.

Yeah, buncha haters here.

Fortson has to have fans before he can have haters.

If the kings pick him up as an undrafted FA, we lucked out. dude can play, im not just jocking him, he has serious game. Something like nate robinson, but more PG skills.

We do need another point guard, but I'd prefer not spending a pick on him unless we have to.

I admittedly know little about him other than the fact he's a bit on the short side and his turnover per game average last year was astronomically high.

astronomically high.

Yes, but isn't that what you love about him? I have seen him play, and the dude has a flare for the dramatic, and if he just took that extra crap out of his game he could easily be effective in short spurts. In no way is he close to being or becoming a starter in the NBA, but everyone who is passing/hating/thinks he flat out sucks is going to be eating their words. Fortson is likely going to be undrafted because of his off the court transgressions, but if he was to be drafted in the 2nd round because of workouts, there is NO DOUBT he would stick in my mind.

He's one of those change of pace guys undoubtedly. If he's undrafted, I say yeah pull him in for the summer league and give him a try-out. I just don't think we should spend a pick on him.

Definitely no need to spend one of OUR picks on him, he is a late 2nd rounder at best. But, if the Warriors or the Spurs or the Heat pick him up, he would absolutely OWN. This guy has a weird upside to him and he could potentially be a stud in the NBA. If a team that needs a lead G off the bench picks CF up, they won't be disappointed.

Are you his publicist? Why are you so in love with this guy? If Kings get him, great. If we don't, we don't. It's not like GP will decide to let kingsfans.com get to vote on who he picks.

I will say that Fortson is an exciting player to watch at times, but he's not what the Kings need right now. If he can earn his way onto the team by playing in summer league and wants to be the 12th guy on the bench, I can live with it. I can almost guarantee you that he won't be drafted.

To say that he has better point guard skills than Nate isn't saying much, and I'm not sure its actually true. He had an assist to turnover ratio of almost one to one. He's a very good athlete, but plays out of control a lot. His out side shot is inconsistant at best, shooting a paltry 36% from the floor. Compare that with Turner who shot around 51% from the floor. Most of his shooting woes come from shooting 31% from 3pt range, and the fact that a third of his shots were 3 pointers. Consider that Turners 3pt shooting average is actually higher than Fortson's overall shooting average, and thats considered one of Turner's weaknesses.

If were not lucky enough to draft Turner, and go for a big man, I wouldn't mind taking a flyer on Greivis Vasquez. I call him a poor man's Evan Turner. He can handle the ball, and played the position of bringing up the ball and distributing it. He's a decent shooter from 3pt range, but still needs improvement. Basicly his game mimic's Turners. He's just not as good as Turner. But he could develop into a solid player off the bench that could compliment Tyreke's game. Vasquez is also 6'6".

As far as Fortson goes. The best thing he could do is go back to school. He has a lot of holes in his game. If your that athletic and your 6'4", you can get by with a couple of holes. But if your barely 5'11", you better be damm good at what you do, or you won't be around long.
