1. Why does he refer to every hook shot as a "half hook?" What does a player need to do to actually shoot just a "hook" shot? Does it have to be a Kareem sky hook in order to not be called a half hook??

2. How come everything is "foot" instead of "feet?" For example, "Jason Thompson really needs to take that shot. He was only 2 foot away from the basket."

These are things that have been on my mind for 20+ years. I would like some answers please.

Thanks.

I suppose the ideal "hook" has to start around the waist, so that the ball actually curves outwards and then in, whereas in a "half hook" the ball kind of starts at the top and then goes downwards.

I can help you with the first one. The only real full hook shot ever was shot by Kareem. Nobody these days shoots a full hook. This was my era as well, so to me also, all these little hook shots are really half hooks.

I don't think anyone ever shot what would be described as a skyhook prior to Kareem, which to my mind, got that name because it seemed to be coming almost straight down. But there were players that shot hook shots way before Kareem. Cliff Hagen of the St. Louis Hawks seldom shot anything but a hook shot. Which he sometimes shot from as far away from the basket as 15 to 18 feet. The dude was very accurate with it though shooting almost 50% from the floor. His nickname by the way was Little Abner, because of his resemblence to the comic book charactor.

An inciteful observation. I was at the Alamo as well. Along with Davey Crockett.

Um..that one kinda didn't go so well -- what did you do? Take one look at Santaana's army and saavily switch sides? :p
