Could Tyreke be an All-Star reserve?

With TMac and Kobe dominating the Guard spots in voting for the Western Conference All-Star team, and T-Mac being injured, I think Tyreke Evans has a pretty good shot at becoming an All-Star reserve this year. You know Nash will be in and potentially Kidd, but, I think the coaches may agree Tyreke Evans is more of a "star" this season than many of the others.

Thoughts?

Actually the TMac thing will kill his chances if it happens. With no TMac then there is basically only 2 real choices for a second SG -- either Reke or Roy. Ellis would be there too on numbers, but you rarely see an All Star from the second worst team in the conference. Meanwhile Nash, CP3, Deron are all there as PGs, Parker lurks (but maybe not if he Spurs remian disappointing) etc. You normally take 5 guards, so it becomes Kobe, Reke/Roy, Nash, CP3, Deron most likely.

But now have TMac get one of those ridiculous "All Star" nods and that goes out the window. Then Kobe and TMac are the SGs, and Nash, Deron and DP3 are all there as PGs. Roy & Reke are out of luck.

With Roy playing well right now it might not matter anyway. But if TMac gets in its probably not happening without an injury somewhere.

I think the one thing that gives me hope, is that Reke is being mentioned as an MVP candidate putting him in the to 10 players in the league.

My answer is simply.....If people vote for Tyreke, then yes. The All-Star game is the "Fans game" Pretty much based solely on fan voting. That's why the biggest names make it, because those players teams have most likely had a few national TV games to let people across the country see them, and are talked about on ESPN etc., on a regular basis.

Tyreke has had one national game, the NBA Access spot, and now since National TV people have really had a chance to see him some buzz across the country. I don't know if enough people have been able to truly appreciate his game yet to affect voting.

He is not and never was going to get voted into the all-star game. The only way he is going to make it is as a reserve, which the coaches decide.

Unfortunately, there really is no chance. Maybe, MAYBE, next year.

I don't even think James made it on during his rookie year. The league seems to disregard rookies when it comes to the all-star game.

if lebron couldnt make it his rookie year with all of the hype he had and his 20/5/5 numbers it would be tough for tyreke to make it. unless tmac pulls out, though he is back now and playing limited minutes.

its definitely a long shot.

Tmac should end up declining the invite, which leaves us:

Kobe
Nash
CP3
Deron

Being pg heavy, one of the last couple spots on the roster could conceivably go to a big guard, which would be incumbent Roy. Now, Reke and Roy are having almost identical years thus far (which goes to show what kind of talent Reke is), but the nod goes to Roy because of seniority, and he was already labeled as the underrated guard in a small market that does everything for their team. Now, you can say Tyreke fits the bill as well, but funny thing about putting someone in the underrated category is that it gives them just a little more credibility, as well as the "he already took his lumps/snubs" line.

To put it simply, Tyreke will not be chosen by the coaches over Roy, and that is what it's going to come down to.

exactly... if he is playing the same way in a year or two then i can understand making a thread about him being voted in by the coaches but right now? maybe if the kings are the only team that you watch i can understand that. but when players are going up against other teams they have different numbers than the ones they had against the kings.

Tyreke wont make it because he is currently a "write in" vote. People are far more likely to vote for the names put in front of them than to think of someone to write in. Oh well.

Reke/ Roy

If it comes down to Evans or Roy as an all star pick, I think they would choose Roy this year because he's been here longer and paid his dues.
Reke can play in the rookie game this year. He has a lot of years left to be an all star.:)

Atleast we wont be shut of the all star game this year.

At least we HOPE we wont be shut out of the All Star game. I don't put anything past the East Coast Bias of the media and coaches. It would be hard to keep 'REKE out of that rookie game (same for Casspi by the way) but I assure you that there are rookies in the big markets that will get votes just because they are not a small market club like Sacramento.

I REALLY hope that 'Reke makes the rookie team, and JT makes the soph team. If Casspi got in it would be awesome, but most likely the Kings will only get one of those 3 in. If it has to be only one, then let it be Evans. He has had an awesome rookie year and he is on pace to having a very special year for ANY player rookie or not. 20-5-5 is no joke. Those are Oscar Robinson numbers. Lets hope that the rookie team has Evans on it.

If Cassi makes it, this would be one of the best allstar weekends for the Kings ever. JT has earned a spot on the SOPH team so far with his outstanding play, but I could see him getting left off for a big market team Soph just because. I think JT deserves the Soph team, and if he doesn't make it, it will be politics that keep him off. His play has been outstanding, and he is gaining attention from the league at the PF spot.

I always get my hopes up and get disappointed when the Kings don't get any love from the national media. I think the Kings record is good enough to not have it be a factor negatively in the voting. Lets hope the Kings are well represented on allstar weekend!!

Hm, pretty much, no. Reke will be first in for the Rookie game. If a rookie game exists on that weekend, Reke will be in it. If There is only a rookie 1 vs 1 game, Tyreke will be in it. There is absolutely no way he will be left off the starting lineup, let alone the roster. You take this "east coast bias" thing to ridiculous proportions. I am one of the biggest naysayers here (I like to say I'm logical) in terms of heaping praise/predicting inordinate amount of wins/awards for our team, but the starting backcourt will be Jennings and Tyreke.

Evans will be in the Rookie game. No way is kept out. JT should make the sophomore team, as well, but there's a chance that he won't (I would however, be very surprised). Casspi should make the Rookie team, as well, but I wouldn't be surprised to see him not make it. It won't happen this year, but in future, I can see Casspi making it to a three point shootout or two, depending of course on if he can maintain his shooting prowess.

I think the term East Coast bias should be permanently struck from the vocabulary of this board. It is just such a terribly whiny excise for anything and everything.

And of what POSSIBLE relevance could an "East Coast bias" have in the selection of the WESTERN Conference All Stars? What? Are the naster right coasters going to start putting extra Eastern team reserves on the Western team?

Or are you merely referring to the rookie team? Which has been dominated with small city, WESTERN conference picks for years? I am sure that Kevin Durant, Jeff Green, OJ Mayo, Marc Gasol etc. etc. would all be surprised to hear they were being discriminated against by some mythical East Coast baddies.

Tyreke has no chance as a write in, but the fans only pick the starters. Just because he won't be a write in, doesn't mean the coaches won't consider him, which IMO means a lot more. Tyreke never had a chance as a write in, but that accounts for less than half of the spots in the roster.

I think Tyreke will definately get consideration, but this Tmac crap could be the reason he doesn't get picked.

Don't forget Manu, Baron Davis and Billups.

I didn't. These are my picks for the backcourt of the West. Ginobli has been playing below average this season, with his minutes and production down. He will not receive an All Star bid whatsoever, nor should he.

Baron Davis, while having an alright year thus far, is far removed from a darling in the NBA, stuck in Clipperland. If he keeps playing the way he has the past couple weeks, then perhaps he would be in the discussion, but at this point I do not see him beating out Roy for the last guard spot. Further, Baron is a point, and there are too many points ahead of him for All star consideration.

Billips, while perhaps the Nugget's true MVP, is putting in good numbers, but at this point, he is too old and past his prime. Like Davis, he is stuck as a pg behind a glut of HOF points who are putting up better numbers. It's not happening imo.

Roy beats out on all 3 of these guys. Likewise, Tyreke's production and importance to our team is just as much as Roy. Those are the 2 on the bubble, and again, my vote is Roy.

None of those players are threats except Billups, who is having a down season and may have hit the age wall. More importantly, it would be odd to take 4 PGs and onyl 1 SG. Not impossible, but odd. Henc emy theory that the spot up for grabs is nto one of the PG spots, where there are 4 or 5 top contenders already, but the backup SG spot, where Reke's "comboness" could get him a nod over a fairly weak field. Manu is nothing this year (13ppg). TMac obviously has not played. Other thna the yougn 17ppg guys like Mayo & Gordon who really have no more claim to the spot than Reke, leaves only Roy and maybe Ellis, and Ellis plays for one of the worst teams in the league.

From a coaches point of view Manu would get it. And billups is on one of the better teams. Manu maybe at 13 ppg, but his PER is over 20. He's never been thought of as a high scorer anyways.

Teh coaches would never tyake Manu at 13. Just never. Not even if the Spurs were 25-4. Let alone struggling. He's not a factor this year.

He is not and never was going to get voted into the all-star game. The only way he is going to make it is as a reserve, which the coaches decide.

Evans? Nah he's getting pretty dang popular right now. I hear about him on other forums all the time.. I think he gets voted in next year, or the year after.
