Congratulations to Rick Adelman

Woohoo! Your 1st win as a Rockets Head Coach. And, your guys beat the L.A. Kobe's. Doesn't get any better than that. :p

And the best part? It was a dagger to the heart as time expired by Shane Battier from waaaaaay downtown that took the win away from LA.

Life don't get much better than that.

Congratulations, Coach Adelman!!!

This game was on at the bowling alley tonight. I kept looking up and seeing Rick on the bench and expecting a Kings game. Sad.

But congrats!

Yep, that was pretty funny. :)

Rockets looked a little lost in Rick's offense most of the game, and that mental lapse at the end was pretty sad, but it was enjoyable seeing the Lakers come so close only to be denied. Probably worse than just losing by 12.

Yao actually came up with some fairly big shots in the 4th. I still don't know why I get frustrated at that guy. He always seems so... "soft" and mentally not tough. Just dunk the darned thing!

Anyways, rooting for Adelman and Co. this year as well.

Good to see Rick back in the NBA where he belongs. The Maloof's stupid mistake are the Rocket's gain.

Congrats to Rick of course on resuming his march up towards 800 wins.

But that game was shaky. Doubt he's waking up terribly happy about it. They've got some work to do, and a brutal early schedule to do it during. Might be some growing pains here before they get it smoothed out.

congrats rick. keep succeeding.

but watching the second half of that game last night, i couldn't help but think: "hey, we made those same mistakes all the time!" :D

Yeah...and like the Rockets, we won all the time. Funny how that part always gets dropped.

And as an aside -- no we didn't. The Rockets were suffering from a chronic lack of leadership, indecision, and poor decisionmaking. Our machine was exactly the opposite. We knew exactly what we wanted to do, and had complete confidence in doing it. Going to take the Rockets a while to even get close to that.

for the past two or three years? our leadership went out the door with webber, the indecision during the mike-peja-brad triumvirate was fun, and the poor decision making exists to this day (francisco and ron come to mind).

perhaps you thought i was referring to the golden years, and not the debacle of the past few?

That was my assumption, yes, given the coach involved.

If not, cancel my last transmission.

it's all good. last night in the second half, i saw a lot of passing to the big man around the high post, some successful cutting, but also a lot of standing around and watching. the stagnation particularly reminded me of rick's later years in sacramento.

I think even Collins called the Rockets "Sacramento" at least once on accident.

They did look shaky in the offense, especially in the beginning, but they clearly played better than the Lakers for most of the game. Even if they are just the Rockets, it was nice to see the Lakers/Jackson/Bryant/Fisher lose to an Adelman-coached team.

I can't wait until December 1 when the Rockets come in to town. I'm hoping Rick gets a nice ovation when his name is announced!

I was thinking the same thing watching that game. We had trouble putting teams away, even with a lead late in the game. But when you are playing against a team with Kobe Bryant, and an experienced big-game vet like Derek Fisher (who made several big plays offensively and defensively in the last minute and a half, along with Luke Walton), sometimes that is going to happen.

But watching Rick's antics on the sidelines was fun. I think he lost 5 or 10 years off his lifespan last night with the way that game ended. But I think Houston is going to be pretty good. Their defense was impressive (it was just the Lakers and Kobe jacking up a bunch of bad shots), their rebounding was good and they looked like they will be able to handle the offensive system as the season goes on. Rick is in a good situation down there.

If Yao and McGrady can stay healthy they should be pretty good. Problem with Houston every year is one, or both of them, tend to miss quite a few games because of injury. Knowing how Rick likes to ride his horses it doesn't bode well for them staying healthy....especially Yao. He played 41 minutes last night and McGrady played 40. I know it's the first game but it's a marathon of a season and not a sprint.

Yao's injuries have been freak injuries. One time Tim Thomas basically falls right into his knee and blows it out. One time Mehmet Okur basically jumps on Yao's foot and breaks it.

He's actually been very durable. I wouldnt worry too much. As for McGrady, same thing. This doctor in Texas apparently is incredible and really improved his back. Plus he lost some weight which doctors were saying was putting too much on his back. He's looked much quicker this year.

Yeah injuries have been a problem for the Rockets. But the thing about Rick's system is that, when run properly, it allows them sustain a loss to one player and still put up points. They wouldn't be as efficient without Yao or McGrady, but once they get a handle on the team offense, they will be able to go significant stretches in games without one or both of their star players on the floor. Then those two will be on the court for 35-38 minutes a game, as opposed to 40-42.
