Concern about DC

People are worried about Webber. People are worried about Bibby. People are worried about Pedja.

Well, I think people should start worrying about what this team is going to do if DC can't be on the court at critical times.

It was painfully obvious tonight that we have NO ONE who can step in and play defense when DC is out. As 6th reminded me, he had his leg run over while he was on the floor diving for a ball and he was very slow to get up afterwards.

Without Doug we are in deep doo-doo.

Mo Evans may have a bright future but there is NO WAY he can fill Doug's shoes. He cannot defend like DC; he can't shoot FT like DC; he doesn't have the savvy that Doug has. He's new; he's not going to be like Doug.

Hopefully, he won't have to be.

True but, it would be nice to have doug sit a few games so Mo can get the experience he needs to get better. Just in case we need him come playoff time. You never know what will happen. Like last year we were stuck with Buford for game 7 . It would have been nice had Buford averaged more than 3 min a game before the playoffs.

I asked the same question in my game prewiev in the " game thread"

I guess it it as alarming as I thought.

Barnes, Martin and Evans can no more back Doug up than I can.

Not having Doug Christie would kill us because we have no one of his caliber to take his place. You can't expect some rookies to fill in for someone with DC's court savvy, defensive presence, etc. It hasn't been an accident that he's been named to All-NBA defensive squads. He is a KEY part of this team and we have no one capable of filling in behind him.

Rick adleman has a history of rolling the dice at that shooting guard position.I remember when doug came to the KINGS,he benched nick anderson completley for doug. And when jim jackson was acquired he benched doug down the stretch in favor of jim jackson and now it seems like he is doing the same right now with doug and mo evans getting the time at the end. He's shooting craps with that position.

shaka - DC was most likely on the bench because of having his leg run over while he was on the floor diving for a loose ball. He was VERY slow in getting up afterwards and left the game shortly thereafter. RA has NOT rolled the dice at the 2-guard position when he had any alternative. His choice has been DC since he got the starting slot. The only times RA has not utilized DC was when there was a physical reason not to.

I honeslty see playing DC less right now as prevenetive mataince to make sure his is ready to play 100% in the post season. The trick of course is hw to play him less and still not loose games like tonight. Adding House to the rotation may help, but I doubt it. Barnes maybe but as is looks like for better or worse part of Evans job is to take big min from DC.

seems like a pattern to me against the knickS and raptors Dc was on the bench during the stretch and I think a foul or time out he made a substitution.I don't think he would have made the SUB if IT wern't for the ball going out of bounds or the foul called and this was KINGS AND KNICKS, it seemed like he was going to go with flow with mo evans instead of DC.

All 3 of them together could not get close to the defense of DC
I know that but at least we got some solid players to back him up. Maybe Special K can do a little bit of defense. Not a whole lot but at least its better than nothing.

something that worries me almost as much as this point you bring up is the fact that DC's scoring has gone WAAAAY down so far this season. i havent checked his averages, but i'm sure he isnt averaging double figures in scoring anymore. this, to me, is a telling and disturbing statistic. we are an offensive powerhouse with 4 starters who are capable of puttin up 25 any given night, and that fact, coupled with solid bench play, really should be enough.

but the fact is, on long road trips and back-to-backs, the kings just cant squeeze 25 out of more than one of those guys, and thats ok. we shouldnt expect them all to. with that said, i think doug really needs to make a point of driving to the basket more often. he doesnt need to score like webb or peja or mike. i think its safe to say that 10-12 pts/game from DC would be more than sufficient. i just gotta believe the guy can score. he's proved it over the past 6 seasons or w/e its been. his shooting touch aint quite what it used to be, but he is plenty capable of getting to the basket. he's still athletic and wiry enough to edge in past defenders, and i'd like to see him do it more often. just a thought. i think it would increase our chances of winning tough games like this one tonight, especially on the road. yeah.....sounds stupid, but this was a tough game. we were facing a determined team....a team who wanted it more. with baron davis back, they'll win a few more, especially if the teams entering NO go in with a lazy attitude.

I think his plantar fasciitis and the other aches and pains he has may be catching up to him as far as offense is concerned. He can still shots often enough, however, to command attention from the opposing teams. We had an article not too long ago that said he has shoulder problems, the foot problem and now what I'm going to assume is probably a pretty nice bruise and sore to go with it on his leg.

I have the utmost respect for DC and how much he means to the Kings in terms of defense. We NEED him. Baron Davis would not IMHO have been anywhere near as effective in the last part of the game tonight if Doug had been on the court.

It wasn't just the guy guarding Davis the team was slow on there rotations, and that would have nothing to do with Christie, if Christie was on for Evans we wouldn't of had Evans Points and Offensive rebounds. Plus RA is probably trying to get Evans used to playing in big games, and thats the smart thing to do, Evans was playing well so they left him in. We lost the game because they hit three after three, its one lost big deal.

I like this idea. A SG like DC, while a reallly good defender, needs to carry more of the offensive load as well. Bringing DC along slower to let his foot fully heal while getting some more time for MO and Special-K and maybe Barnes can likely help. Wonder if a fresher DC could have shut down Baron last night? ;)
