Also, teams are far more willing to rental KD, who legitimately makes any team he goes to a top 10ish squad?

And having 3 teams as opposed to 1 is vastly different from a negotiation perspective.

Stop trying to let Fox off the hook for being a scumbag to the Kings

Fox is a scumbag no doubt that’s why I would’ve sent him anywhere but San Antonio unless they gave us a legit first besides the Minnesota pick. Now we got mediocre return and he went to his desired team, surely someone would’ve gave us a decent enough off to rent fox for a year and a half.

They didnt, obviously. You think we turned down a better offer just to placate Fox and Paul? Absolutely not.

Fox made it abundantly clear he'd reup with one team. And i think it was fairly common knowledge he needed surgery too, so you'd be getting a hampered Fox for a half season

If KD comes out tomorrow and says he's only resigning with MIA and he'll only talk with MIA about an extension.... guess where he's getting traded.

Its honestly a minor miracle we got 2 unprotected FRP, 2 CHA 2nds and a quality player in LaVine with the hole Fox put us in. At the time, I gave it a 5.5 day of... now thst we know what we know on the situation, I'm not sure how you could actually expect more value

Amen to that. And the other thing is KD has to be seen as a short term rental regardless. Teams know what they're getting. He's going to be 37. Coming out and saying he wants a multiyear max extension might send his trade value to nothing.

I'm old enough to remember when Corey Maggette was the best player on the Clippers. Just because you're the "best player" doesn't mean that you're any good. Is Fox good, or is he not?

Yes he is very good. I’ve always thought Fox was a top 15-20 talent, my only frustration with him over the years was the inconsistent defense. And that frustration was only because I thought he could do better.

KOC constantly rating the dude top 15 over Fox and Halliburton while at the Ringer to now putting the dude into the “top 40-50” range is peak KoC galaxy braining.

Yeah, that seems like an overcorrection to me. Morant has top-20 talent, but his poor off-court decision-making and poor health record these last few years have done their damage. That said, he's 25. If Desmond Bane drew four first rounders, a spicy trade market might yield a great return for Morant, but what you don't want to do is "sell low" on him. There would be exactly zero pundits surprised if he properly uncorked all of that talent when gifted the benefit of new scenery.

I don’t know if they are right or not but several nba podcasts have suggested that Bane might actually have the highest value of the Grizz big three because he is locked in long term at an ok rate, he is consistent, better health record and no off court issues.

Vecenie wondered if the Grizz are positioning themselves for a Giannis run. Could be like KCP, Edey, Anthony, GG Jackson and 7 firsts or something.

Prett sure they would want Wells in any deal

He was also shattering whatever team chemistry remained, for all the "shut him down and negotiate in the offseason" takes. We'd pretty much throw away the season and then be right back where we are anyways but probably have more guys demanding a trade out.

There absolutely is some GM out there telling his nerd basketball writer friends to push a Ja is overrated narrative to get the Grizzlies to lower their asking price haha

I suppose "Ja is overrated" is a useful narrative if you only look at the last two seasons and are focused exclusively on his bad behavior/poor health. Those are not insignificant concerns, of course, but they're also not about the player he is on the court, nor are they about the player he could be with the right training staff and team culture around him.

That said, I'm not a huge fan of Morant's, and a "Ja is properly rated" narrative probably puts him in about the same tier as Trae Young and De'Aaron Fox in terms of his overall impact on winning. These are not guys you empty your entire war chest to acquire. They are inconsistently great and have distinct holes in their games. Ja is no different in that respect, and he really does need to develop something resembling a league-average outside shot if he wants to be a top 15-20 guy in the modern NBA instead of a top-30 guy.
