Commemorative Championship season piece

My boyfriend (1kingzfan) had this made. It's awesome in person, the pics really don't do it justice, since it is rather large. Player cards, matted in purple surrounding a picture of the team along with the replica ring from the ring ceremony and the opening night pin.

Thanx for posting the pics, KG! It was something I had been wanting to do since the season ended. It's made up of the rookie cards of the vets side-by-side with last year's WNBA card offerings for each player.

Maiga and Scott-Richardson had no Monarchs cards made last year, so they have only their rookies. Naturally, our team's 4 rookies last year (at the time) had those cards in the piece as their only cards. Then I added in a couple autograph cards of Ticha and Yo, the replica championship ring (KG's idea!), and the opening day pin from the championship season.

Finally, the team photo was put up on the Monarchs website to be used as a screen saver/background, and it was super high res, so I printed a high-res copy as the center piece with the engraved brass plate.

You card collectors know this already, but for those that don't, this year's WNBA cards (produced by Rittenhouse) have an autograph card for each of the 11 Monarchs players on the playoff roster last season. Each of the 11 player autograph cards depict each player with the WNBA Championship trophy. Very sweet indeed.

Now THAT would make a gorgeous, collectable piece, getting all 11 player autos (plus Whisenant has an auto card too) and putting them together in a framed presentation. ;)

If any of you ever wants to do something similar or of your own creation, this piece was done via All American Sports Fan in Old SAC. If you decide to have one done, establish a firm production schedule.

You decide what you want framed and they can do the rest. I was very specific on the layout and look and matting etc, but you can do as much or as little as you want. If you can make it a stock framed size, that saves cost (mine was not). The more die-cuts in the matting you have, the greater the cost (mine had a lot). Things like the brass plate engraving add cost. Mine has a box frame to accommodate the bulky championship ring and the opening day pin...that's extra cost over a normal frame.

With all that said, this piece cost me a total of $200 to get completed. It may have been $300 under other circumstances. There was an unusual time delay in getting my piece done, plus I've done a couple other pieces with AASF, so my cost was lower than the norm.

This is a great way to commemorate the Monarchs' first title or any other sports event/milestone/achievement that you care to put something nice together for and is unique. Something you can cherish for along time in your home, and if you ever get tired of it, you have a very marketable piece to recoup your investment down the road.

This is a reaaaaally nice piece. All my stuff is in boxes right now, and this has inspired me to try and put something together!

Thanks for sharing 1kingzfan and Kkingsgurl!:D

The contact for getting your memorabilia framed is as follows:

All American Sports Fan
1021 Front Street
(in Old Sacramento)
916.442.5066

Ask for Bruce, he's the store owner.

Also, AASF does not do the framed pieces on the premises. They actually use an experienced sports collectible framer on a contract basis. AASF coordinates the work and will help you with your layout design and materials choices, if you need it.

Finally, if you go ahead with your own unique framed piece with AASF, please make sure to establish a firm production deadline for the piece.

Please be sure to share some pix here if you get something made up!

One other thing...if you decide you wanna do a framed piece to commemorate the Monarchs title, don't forget about ticket stubs from the Finals! Especially since the tickets are no longer torn at the gate, and if you saved them, they make a great collectible display. I've seen several pieces made with ticket stubs before and they look stellar.
