Coaching staff did NOT want Jimmer

I'm down with running a Jimmer/Cousins pick n roll play all day all day!

How good are Jimmer's playmaking skills?

Ive never really seen the guy in college, never watched any of his games. But going off what ive heard and read, hes a scorer. We have some guys on our roster who doesnt seem to even know what a pick and roll is. I hope Jimmer isnt going to be one of those guys.

Cousins on the other hand, i really want to see. He was already a top 5 big or maybe even higher in terms of skills. The only thing holding him back from being even more dominant was his conditioning, which is something i hope he capitalizes on during this off season.

Very good. He can create, and is very good at both running the pick & roll, and getting in the lane and finding the open guy. He scored because he had to at BYU.

He had one of, if not the worst supporting cast of any top 30 team. He'd look to set up teammates early, but looked to score later when the games got close and the team needed it. They needed him so badly on offense his coach basically told him not to play defense to make sure he remianed on the floor and didn't get in foul trouble.

Some think he's strictly a gunner. Can't change their opinion, only time will, on the court. I have no concerns with his ability to not only run an offense, but once he gets used to the speed of the league and his teammates, finding guys in the right spots where they can be effective. His vision will show with the talent around him. He's never played on a team with options like he'll have. He's never had a Thornton to kick to, or a Cousins posting in hte paint, or anything close to a guy like Reke next to him attracting a lot of attention.

He'll actually have an easier time getting into the paint, and probably finding gaps. He had the attention of all 5 defenders the entire time he was on the floor. There wasn't anyone to take attention away or make the defense pay for completely overloading on him. The talent on this team will really help keep the defense honest and open things up for him. Just like I think Rubio will do very well setting up teammates, and his ast numbers will look much better in the NBA, because the pace is quicker, his has much better targets on the receiving end of his passes then he did in Spain, and the defense, just like in the NCAA, can't just sit back in a zone.

OK folks, let's put this squabble to rest once and for all. Voison in the Bee this morning states:

* The reports indicating that the Kings coaches were upset about the Jimmer Fredette selection (No.10) are puzzling and inaccurate.

The only coaching voice that matters - that of head coach Paul Westphal - resonated loud and clear; he wanted the BYU star all the way. In the hours leading up the draft, the front office types/coaches debated about a group that consisted of Fredette, Kemba Walker, Klay Thompson and, somewhat surprisingly, USC forward Nikola Vucevic.

And

* Two players the Kings were not enamored of: Brandon Knight and Kawhi Leonard.

I'm more concerned about what happends when the opposing team runs a pick n roll with the guys that pair are guarding on the other end of the court.

Well it depends also on who's on the court with them. If Reke and dally are on the court then it doesn't really matter if cuz and jimmer are running pick n rolls on offense if when on defense tyreke and dally can switch the defense up on the other side.

Honestly how many teams have solid offensive and defensive players at every position? Answer: None. Remember basketball is a team game.

You know what the meaning of if is?

My grandmother told me a long time ago, that "IF" is for children. Wear that mantle if you want. Frankly I'm just tired of people taking rumors, converting them to facts, and then making decisions based on those susposed facts. Some pundit somewhere who has no connections to the Kings hears a rumor from another pundit who has no connection to the Kings, and he prints it. But reporters like Jones, and Amick, or even Scott Howard Cooper, who do have connections, seemingly have no information at all about the coaching staff not wanting Fredette. As a matter of fact, some ot those reporters do something really stupid. They go to the horses mouth and ask them. But hey, why believe the people who actually make the decisions. Maybe that report doesn't fit in with some of the anger you might have with the orginization, or specifically, the Maloofs.

Its much easier to feed the flames of anger against the Maloofs with a negative article than a positive one. Hey, I'm sure that George Bush was the one that blew up the twin towers. All this crap is petty, childish, and nonsense. Lets try dealing with what is. Lets deal with the facts we know to be true, and not some stupid story written by someone who probably thinks the Kings are trying to trade Cousins because they don't like him.

The facts are, we have three new players. How the decision was made to draft them no longer matters. If you want to base how much attention you give to the kings on how they were aquired as oppossed to who they are and what they might bring to the team, then my friend, you don't know what the meaning of the word "TEAM" means. And believe me, its has more value than the word "IF".

Your absolutely right. And team defense is the answer. However that takes commitment and trust. No one likes to be left out to dry, and when you make a switch, and no one switches to cover your man, your left with egg on your face and that trust breaks down. For starters, the Kings need a good defensive coach. Don't know if they have one, but the good one's are worth their weight in gold. Then it takes time and having the same players in the rotation. Fredette and Cousins both have quick feet, so there's no reason they can't play decent to good pick and roll defense.

I take this with a grain of salt. The article has dueling reports of what the staff wanted on its face. Berger says they wanted Burks and @wojyahooNBA says they wanted Parker or Felton. Which is the right information, pray tell, or are they both wrong?

I don't think the two are mutually exclusive. They can want to trade the pick, but also want Burks if they kept it.

The organization would not have wanted Parker, especially after his comments. He blatantly stated that he wanted to and would end his career in San Antonio. They wouldn't want a player who didn't want to be there.

Also notice the Spurs did not trade Tony Parker to another team. So chances are that rumor was more wishful thinking than factual.

Wishful thinking on the part of who? The rumor didn't come from the Kings. And if it came from the Spurs, apparently, someone had the names wrong. I'd love to know exactly how some of these rumors get started.

They wanted Webber and he practically refused to come here.
