Varejao plus Noel would not be a "beast lineup". They'd be our version of Ibaka and Perkins, which is to say only really assets on one end of the floor and needing actual stars to make up for their offensive deficiencies. It would take more than resigning Tyreke and grabbing "a decent SF" to make that frontcourt work.
Do I wish DeMarcus would grow up? Of course, but let's have a little perspective. So he's foul tempered on the court and grumpy with the media. And yes he argues with the refs much more than he should. But if we're looking at Memphis and Indiana, should we mention the off the court issues that Zach Randolph and Lance Stephenson have had? And I'm not even talking about Randolph's checkered history in Portland. A drug dealer (who was presumably called out to deliver a large amount of weed to a party) was severely beaten at Randolph's house two years ago.
Around that same time Lance Stephenson pushed his girlfriend down a flight of stairs during an argument, only to walk down and slam her head against the bottom step.
And yet there are both of those guys, being big contributors to the teams you think the Kings should be more like. I'll take an immature hothead over an actual criminal. And I'll take a supremely talented bigman with loads of untapped potential over starting over with a soon-to-be 31 year old hustle guy and the top pick in the worst NBA draft I can remember.
Besides, if the Kings went that route of dumping DeMarcus, they might as well let Tyreke walk and consider this an expansion franchise with a hope of lucking into a top 4 pick (or two) in next year's loaded draft. Personally I think that's a loser mentality and has never worked for teams that have employed it, but at least then I could understand the strategy even if I disagreed with it.
Unless Cuz himself wants out though, I think you build around the guy and see where he can take you. He's inefficient right now with a number of red flags, but Brick is absolutely right that he's the most talented player the Sacramento Kings have ever drafted.
