I don't think whether Evans can guard the 3 position or not is the question. The question is why? We have Nocioni, Mason, Greene, and Casspi. The logical thing to do would be to have Evans start as the point, and then fill in as the backup 2 with Mason also filling in at that position. And as I said, I would start Casspi at the 3 with Nocioni as the first man off the bench at that positon. I would either send Greene to the D league, or I would make him earn minutes at the Three and the four.
I, like the rest of you want the young players to get minutes. But if I already have a young player at the three taking away minutes from another young player, then he must have earned them. Then its up to the other young player to play his way back into the rotation. If at some point Greene looks like he can contribute, then I start looking to deal Nocioni, but not till Cisco is ready to come back.
Greene has to find something he's good at. Right now, nothing stands out. He's not a great shooter, or a great rebounder. He's not a great defender or a shotblocker. He's not a great ballhandler or passer. He's not terrible at any of those things, but in the NBA, you've got to be good at something. You just can't get by being a nice guy thats funny and very athletic. I'm not giving up on him, but the clock is running. We need to see some improvement somewhere.
