Chauncey Billups?

King Baller

All-Star
So if the rumors are true that Denver may trade Carmello Anthony, would they also be willing to give up Chauncey Billups? Billups can hit the 3 and play some D. He is playing the 2 for the USA team. Does anyone else like the idea of Tyreke lined up with Billups?

Billups has won a Championship and is a hard nosed veteran.

What would Denver need in return? Did'nt they swap AI for him?

I am pretty sure this has come up before, and it makes zero sense. If Denver is trading Billups to go in a full rebuild after losing Melo they will want back young players or picks.

If we were talking about signing Billups to a contract to be a mentor on the team or something, that would be different. However, it makes zero sense for us to give up any assets in a trade for a "win now" player like Billups.

Yeah, we're just in the wrong position for that sort of thing. Be a bad move for us, and a bad move for him too. A team like Memphis with both a hole at PG and a .500 win team looking to make the hop into the playoffs...maybe. They can swap either a Conley or Xavier Henry and it has no effect on them. But all our youth has obvious uses and we aren't going to make any serious noise in the short time Billups has left. That's before we get to the essential problem with once again trying to shift our best player off the ball.

We're ok. Its TDOS and it gets boring, but really we've been well set up for months now and just waiting for the season to come around. We are under pressure to do nothing at all.

If I said I didn't like Billups, I'd be lying. But he about to turn 34 years of age, so how many years does he have left? He's a natural leader, which some could argue that this team needs. But he may only delay the emmergence of our future leader, whomever that may be. He's also a borderline all star almost every year, so he would be costly. On another team thats at the edge of being a contender, he could, or would be a difference maker. He certainly made a difference in Denver. He just doesn't make sense right now for the Kings. If he were just three or fours years younger.......

Billups is awful...

This is his game: dribble up floor, shoot 30 foot three pointer, miss. I saw him do this countless times when he was trying to be the catalyst for a Nuggets run in the fourth, but all he did was give the ball to the other team. It is incredibly frustrating to watch, and that's amplified by the fact that I still hear the name "mr. bigshot" in reference to him.

To not like his game is one thing. To call him awful is ridiculous. If he has a weak part of his game, its his midrange shooting and ability to finish at the basket. He completely changed Denver's fortunes when he arrived. He has a lifetime assist to turnover average of close to 3 to 1, which is excellent. He's shoots almost 40% from three point range and he's also an excellent defender averaging over 1 steal a game. I'm sure the reason he's currently playing on the USA team is because he's awful.
