Chad Ford rumor: Miller/Salmons for Curry/Jeffries/Lee

#1
Larry (Sacramento): Any chance that a team deals for Brad Miller? Honestly, I can't imagine anyone wanting a slow, lazy, soft 7-footer whose best quality is being able to pass out of the high post and worst qualities (there's a 4 way tie) are his lack of athleticism, lackadazical attitude, aversion to playing defense, and his lack of guts. Then again, I'm not an NBA GM.

Chad Ford: (1:20 PM ET ) Yeah, there's interest. One thing I've heard some rumblings about was a deal that would send Miller and Salmons to the Knicks for Curry, Jared Jeffries and David Lee. The plus for the Knicks would be that it would give them some serious cap space in 2010. Obviously Lee would be the attraction for the Kings. He'd be good paired on the front line with Spencer Hawes.

How you like that turd sandwich?

I hope that isn't true. I like Lee, but I do NOT want Curry on this team. Add that to the fact that both Curry and Jeffries contracts run in to 2010 and beyond. They both have player options, but I can't imagine either of them opting out.

if we could somehow get Charlotte involved to take Curry it would be much better:

Kings
out: Miller, Salmons
in: Lee, Gerald Wallace, Jeffries

NY:
out: Curry, Jeffries, Lee
in: Miller, Salmons

Charlotte:
out: Wallace
in: Curry

That looks alot better.

Hawes/Thompson/Jeffries
Lee/Thompson/Jeffries/Moore
Wallace/Garcia/Greene
Martin/Garcia/Greene
Udrih/Brown/Jackson

That looks like a great mix of players. Jeffries has been playing alot better this year too. Is David Lee a restricted Free Agent this year?

That was my initial gut reaction, but it's actually not true. Curry's contract appears to end in 2010 and Jefferies goes till 2011, but so does Salmons so it is actually a wash (although Jefferies makes about 1 million more a year than Salmons). So now, I'm not really sure what this does for the Knicks. We get a good, young forward in Lee and they gain nothing but 1 million dollars in 2010 and maybe get rid of a cancer.

I just looked quickly on ESPN's trade machine though, so maybe there is a player option or something I am not seeing.

If this is true, Knicks need to be throwing in a 1st rounder. As it is, I'm not a big fan of the deal. I like Lee, but he's not that good, and he's not even that young.

Let's see, biggest market in the USA? New York... Need hits on your website? Make-up an interesting trade rumor involving a New York team... it's simple math.

I didn't see any trade options for Curry or Jeffries on RealGM, but David Lee is an ender this year! I am sure he would LOVE to resign with one of the only teams worse than the one he is on. Also, a young, talented PF is certainly not going to get a number of solid offers from better clubs for more $$. So, the Kings would get 6.6 Mil off the books this offseason and essentially trade Salmons and Miller for Curry and Jeffries... Is that really a good deal at all for the Kings?

The Knicks are doing everything in their power to clear space for 2010, so they are a long shot to re-sign Lee in the first place.

How about Kenny Thomas (who is an ender in 2010) for Rose and Lee (who expire this year) or some sort of Mikki Moore (ends in 2010) for Lee?

Jeez, Chad Ford, this trade doesn't even make sense. What GM would take on an additional $13 millions in salary only to have the chance to witness David Lee walks away this summer? There's no way in hell Petrie would put himself in the position of trying to retain a FA who overvalues himself.

Ummm...Petrie does that all the time.

Bonzi, before that Mobley...

If Petrie does this he's trying to get himself fired or something. But its probably just a baseless rumor.

I use this to look up all salaries, and it says Curry's and Jefferies expire in 2011. Jefferies has a P.O. on his last year, while Curry has one on his last 2 years. So there's a CHANCE he can expire after this season, but there's no way he doesn't exercise his option. As far as Lee goes, he expires this season, but he's restricted.

Is Lee still a restricted free agent this summer if he is traded midseason? I know that would affect his Bird rights, but how would it affect his rookie contract?

Barf!!!! BARF!!!! This idea is TERRIBLE. As Lee will need an extension after the year. I could honestly seeing Geoff pull out a

Brad/Quincy for Curry/Lee

or

Salmons/Douby for Jeffries/Lee

But no way in HELL can I see Lee coupled with Curry AND Jeffries. That's just financial suicide.

Heck I could even see a Kenny Thomas/Douby for Jeffries/Lee deal go down.

I've watched the Kings for a long, long time, held season tickets for eight years and even watched all 48 minutes of the Boston Massacre a few weeks ago, but if this trade goes down, I'm done. Call me a fairweather fan. I don't care. That's the dumbest trade I've ever heard.
