Every webbsite I look at has Donte under contract next year, and a resticted freeagent the following year. So I don't think thats the issue..

Exactly. The team has been playing well as of recently. He really should just cheer them on and be quiet.
Always worried about Casspi's attitude ever since we drafted him because of a scouting report at nbadraft.net.

At the end of the Weaknesses section it states:
"... Gets criticized for being a bit of a prima donna type. Will he be willing to be a team player on the NBA level or will the desire to be a star keep him from being a succesful contributor?"
Casspi should worry about becoming a better teammate. It's something I love about Darnell Jackson. Even when he wasn't getting playing time he would be the first on the bench to cheer. I know I've seen Casspi do the same, but it basically cancels out because of these public complaints.
If he has a problem with his playing time, talk to the coach, talk to the organisation.
Oh, please. Casspi jumps up after big dunks, waves towels, screams at whoever made a big play as they run down the court, gives standing ovations, joking with Reke/Darnell/Cisco, etc. You can criticize his decision-making in publishing this all you like, that's your opinion. But there's no question that Omri's been a great teammate through the periodic benching spells he's been through this season, and particularly during this stretch.
The Kings' bench in general is as enthusiastic as any.

I mentioned that he does the same if you actually read it properly "I've seen Casspi do the same".
I'm saying that there are other ways to complain about minutes and playing roles. A more professional athlete and better teammate would do that. Take a look at Donte Greene for instance, even when he wasn't getting playing time he would cheer on the bench and wouldn't complain about his playing time or role.. not in public anyway.

Since this is turning into an Omri-fan/ People watching the Kings exclusively for Omri vs. people who aren't sold on Omri as being a central cog of the team going into the future, I'm going to stop writing now.

Donte is not the only Israeli basketball player in the NBA. His parents may be concerned about his playing time but a whole country is interested in Omri. Hence the article.

Interesting little tidbit that you guys just made relevant: the Israeli national team [with Omri, of course] faces off against the German national team this summer in the Eurobasket. Since Donte was born in Germany...

The reaction his column in Israel has been pretty much supportive, not seeing anything wrong with writing a peice like this.
I just find that he has to really think about what he does before hand, and he has to be prepared to suffer the consequences if goes public with his feelings and again he is NOT a super star who has the luxury to make enemies.

1. the scouting reports also said he don't have enough range , and now most of the people will agrree this is one of his top skills. so my point is...scouting reports are very subjective.
2. can't understand how expressing his honest feelings in a pretty polite way= not good enough teammate. i have read his column again and he never said 1 bad word about staff/teammates, never said he is better than anybody.
3. moreover, if you say you saw him cheers on the bench and one column cancells all of his good actions on the bench , i wonder what do you think about DMC after all of his accidents. i actually thinks DMC is a GREAT TEAMMATE and by your logic after his accident with donte there's no way you will consider him ever again as a good teammate.

I don't think there will be any negative consequences from what he said. He was accurate. If people don't understand his special place in Israel and what Israelis want to know, that is not Omri's fault. This was not a complaint but a statement of fact. Only a few American born players would be so restrained although no country is interested in their opinions.
As to another issue, I don't think he is acting like a prima donna. Far from it. I have already written that I don't know where that idea came from. He has fit in. He is a team player by supporting the team. He's not sulking despite the odd position he is in right now.

Well now he's come out and is publicly demanding a trade. He wants to go to a team that will "appreciate" him as a person and a player and he feels like there are a lot of teams that would want him. Hate to break it to you Omri but if you can't even get off the bench for a 20 win team, what makes you think you'll be in the rotation for a contender? When will he come to the realization that he's just NOT THAT GOOD right now? I especially love the part about how he wants to go to a team that "plays like a team" when he's by far the most selfish player on the court.

Omri is not complaining or bitching, what he says is basically:
1. The coach says he is currently trying different lineups for next season.
2. Since I'm(Casspi) not in these lineups/rotations, then I understand I'm not in the coach's plans for next season.

Oh please, quit making excuses for the guy. He wants out. He publicly stated that. This is also the same crap we heard from him last year. He cares more about his own playing time than the team because the team is actually playing well right now. He's had his chances numerous times as a starter with very little competition from other players and he's failed for the most part.
It seems like everybody in this world feels like they are entitled. If he took a hard look at himself in the mirror he would realize that he's not a useful NBA player right now. He's not bringing enough to the table. I love his passion but he needs to work on the shortcomings in his game instead of demanding trades thinking it will be better somewhere else.

Omri has a feel good story attached to him, he brings in a small nation of fans, which if you are the Maloofs might actually factor, and as I have mentioned in the past might make him more valuable in trade to certain franchises than others. But while trade demands from bench4rs are rankling, he's not entirely wrong. At the very beginning of the year Westphal seemed to neuter our young SFs, basically talking about how he wanted them to just fit in as roleplayers, and that was before Thornton arrived, and Cousins matured, to give us a very clear and very young Big Three going forward. Omri is not as good as he thnks he is, but even if he were, he would still be asked to be a roleplayer at best, and from our persepctive as the Kings, we don't actually need him to be anything more than that now. And if he wants out, there are a lot of guys who can fiull that kind of role, and maybe more.
This was his year to prove he could seize that position and play it the way we wanted it played, he was given a number of opportunities to do so (27strts, 24.5min/gm). He could not with any consistency. So with Cousins and Thornton coming on to fill those #2 and #3 weapons holes that there was half a thought Omri might once early last year, we really aren't going to be hurt in some major way if he does force himself out. I think "demanding a trade" is too strong. I think he knows where he stands as we all do and simply sees that being on a different team might not be so frustrating and might advance his career. Sitting at the end of the bench in Sacramento is hardly a position of power to bargain from. Boy, I think you added your own twist to what was a straight forward analysis of an unhappy situation. He's not an American and I think that article should be taken for what it was and that was a report back to a country that is proud of him and wants him to succeed. At the least, many any Israel are probably checking the box scores and wandering what happened to their Israeli commrade who once was a starter. Difficult to explain by anybody.
Ahh, just saw die Brickmeister's note. Omri does not fit with what the Kings need. They need a defensive stopper at the 3 spot and that would make a nice 5 man starting team. Omri is not that. On another team, he may be more valuable.
It is something like Landry's situation. We had little use for him but he is filling a much needed role elsewhere - a low post scoring threat. As the years pass, Omri may become a better three point shooting SF and with effort may improve his defense. We don't want to wait for the latter skill to develop and the shooting may be his major skill. That and the fact he comes charging off the bench at full throttle.

I think all this might actually help us get more for him. And I think it's very possible that we were in fact seriously considering not having in the team's plans. Interesting development.
It seems to me that usually "trade demands" (if Omri has really done anything of the sort) usually reduce the amount one can get for a player, because everybody knows you're motivated to deal.

I agree in principal, but Omri may be a special case due to his Israeli status. Worth more to teams that have a large Jewish population. You gotta think New York, LA, maybe even Miami, would be willing to throw in something exta. Am I just thinking wishfully?
I also get the feeling that Petrie would be nonplussed by this demand. But one thing is clear: something's got to give at the SF position. I wouldn't mind trading him for a 10-20 draft pick.

You're probably right about Omri's nationality providing an extra incentive in trade value for some markets. In any of those markets it would likely be enough to overcome the deficit in trade value caused by a trade demand, but I'd still say the trade demand itself would drag that down. Net positive, probably, but less than if there were no trade demand.
Unless we start a bidding war. (I don't suppose having an Israeli player is worth a bidding war, though.)

Isn't this the second time he has complained about his playing time? I could of sworn I remembered him voicing his displeasure with something earlier in the year. Unless I'm mistaken? Anyhow, I think we could get something valuable for him because I'm sure there will be a couple of teams showing interest in him because he has the passion and fire to play and maybe play spot minutes for someteam or hell, rotation minutes. I'm personally getting sick of him whining and not being a professional about it, he's just not very good right now and he has obviously regressed. If the Kings get a SF in the draft or FA, he becomes very expendable and it's best to just get rid of him if we aren't going to play him.
