Can Pollard still play?

Scott Pollard is an unrestricted FA this summer, he gave Sacramento great energy off the bench and would certainly hold more potential than Potapenko, shouldn't he be considered, at least if no better options for a backup C are available?

2005-06
Statistics
PPG 3.8
RPG 4.80
APG 0.5
EFF + 7.76

In his 32 starts in 2005-06, Pacers were 17-15 and he averaged 4.1 ppg and 5.4 rpg
At Washington, 1/31/06, he had a team-high 12 rebounds, his most ever with the Pacers
Bettered that with 16 against Portland 2/8/06

I would consider it, but he's my favorite player..so take that for what it's worth.;)

That being said..if we were looking for rebounding only, maybe. Not much else, there is a reason some people called him "Stone hands" I do believe there are other younger players who have more upsides out there that we wouldn't have to pay as much.

Pollard is the kind of guy you fill out a roster with and might even go over the vet min if you need some fouls, and rebounding for 10 min or so a game. Oddly at the moment that might be a description of where the Kings are today. Now if some of prospcts in summer leagework out Pollard might be redundant.

I am in the same boat with Prophetess, I look at his numbers and say he can still contribute but since I really like him as a personality I recognize that could well cloud my judgement.

I would hope we don't go after him as a top option for back-up C... better options available for what we really want there.

No, but rumor has it he has learned to fly and make a smashing upside-down cake. He is also collaborating with John Frusciante on another solo album titled "Pancakes and a dishcloth" slated for release next year.

That should count for something :D

God I love Pollard! :D But not I think for his current basketball abilities. I'd worry about the back problems he had, that were so bad.

pollards a great guy to have on a team but after that charge he took from jerome james a few years back.. hes never been the same.

Agreed. If Pollard accepts that his career is winding down and he's more physically limited than he used to be, I would love to have him as a third center. Use him in certain matchups and let him play 10 min a game. I could see him wanting to wrap up his career in Sac and trying to contribute to that elusive championship.

However, if he wants more than the LLE or more minutes, I think we can do better for a backup C, especially since Pollard would not be the shotblocker we need.

As a Pacers fan who watches everyone of their games, I'll give you my observations.

Pollard cannot play every game, he cannot play more than about 45-50 games tops and that is for only maybe 10-12 minutes per. He has trouble with his back that flares up after he plays about 5 or 6 games straight, and his feet gave him a lot of trouble last season.

But as you Kings fans know Pollard is a great guy and is very good in the locker room, so I think most Pacers fans would like to have him back for the vets min. He's nice to have on your team, but he is only a spot player against the bigger centers in the NBA

Not for us, he can't.

I like Pollard as much as the next person, but as KingsFans vets often say, "that ship has sailed." And it sailed a LONG time ago.

I would question whether or not he could ever play. Kings gave him a huge contract back in their days of spending freely and he was nowhere near worth it.

Think that's pretty revisionist. Pre-back problems he was one of the best backup Cs in the league. At his peak 6.4pts 7.1rebs 0.9stl 1.0blk in 23.5min. That's an impressive rebounding/shotblocking reserve. Actually exactly what we need right now. But clearly is not that guy anymore.
