Caboclo Contract status

Does anyone know Bruno’s contract situation? I think he is a restricted free agent to whom we would have to extend a qualifying offer if we want to keep him.

What date must this be done by?

Maybe we can re-sign him to a 2 way contract or a veterans minimum contract to see if he can develop.

He's worth a look, he has fantastic size and wingspan for a SF.

Worth a look? I could be dis-remembering but what I saw last season didn't impress me none.

We can only give out two 2-way contracts. He's already NBA caliber for somebody. I just don't think it's us. I have a feeling the Kings are going to be looking very carefully at our summer league team to determine who they want to float between Stockton and Sacramento. Personally, although I know it's probably not going to happen, I'd be satisfied if Cooley and Sampson retained their roles. Both brought something extra to the Kings.

I'm good with keeping Jakarr Sampson, but Cooley will never be a rotation player in the NBA.

I love Cooley's hustle, but I want someone with upside on the 2 way contract. I would offer one spot to Wenyen Gabriel after Summer league.

That's why they have 2-way contracts. ;) I view it more as stocking up on a "just in case" tough player. It's not like we have a lot of those any more.

Cooley's problem is he came into the league 15 years too late. He's probably a better version of Mark Madsen, a dude who had a nearly decade long career in the league, but gritty 5th big who does nothing but rebound and lay dudes out on their ass aren't really en vogue at the moment.

It's a shame because Cooley seems by all accounts to be a great teammate and an even better person but he's sorta stuck in basketball no man's land.

I Would think we would want two-way players at our positions of need
With Bagley and Giles bringing our regular roster of bigs to 6 players

I don't feel Cooley/Sampson has a place this season

We have had half of a season for coaches to evaluate if Caboclo is worth a Rfa offer
From what I saw its a big no from me
I don't even think he is eligible for SL

PG-2,SG-4,sf-1,Bigs 6
With 13 on roster
We really need a starting SF from FA
If Caboclo wants to compete in training camp on a non-guaranteed min contract - im ok with that
We need a PG and SF from summer league for our two 2way spots/and or 15th player

I agree. I would like to see:
Trevan Duval - signed to a two way
Others depends on summer league

Given our dire need at SF, if he's not NBA caliber for us, I don't think he's for anyone else. I get your point though that someone else may make him a better offer than us (which is where a qualifying offer helps).

I don't know if we should extend him an offer or not. I would rather have him/Nigel in the team on a cheap contract, than chase a high priced FA at this stage though.

Bruno is a nice kid but he's clueless out there. HARD PASS.
On/Off = +7.8 (3rd out of 18 players on the team)
RPM = -2.21 (397th in the league & 75th among SFs)
RAPM = +0.15 (226th in the league)

That doesn't necessarily scream "clueless." Let's look at Fox for comparison...

On/Off = -5.8 (17th out of 18 players on the team)
RPM = -4.27 (503rd in the league & 99th among PGs)
RAPM = -2.88 (522nd in the league)

Caboclo is still very young. He's 2 years younger than Hield and 3 years younger than Bogdanovic. He was classified as a HUGE project coming into the draft. It wouldn't hurt to keep him on a very flexible 1+1 deal to see if this 6'9"-6'11" (people were under the impression he was still growing at the time of the draft) 22 year old with a 7'7" wingspan can become a useful player. You rarely see a player with his combination of athleticism, size, and length. Why not hang onto him for another year or two?

Exactly Bruno is a perfect development piece for us. Could do a lot worse. Nigel and Bruno would be 2 fantastic 2 way players or for the end of our bench. Buyout shumpert and Zbo

We only have 2 roster spots if GT opts in, or 3 roster spots if not
Need Starting SF and back up PG
after summer league is over staff can pick Bruno,Nigel,summer league players, Jakarr,Cooley
or whomever they want for two-way contracts or non-guar training camp contr for 15th roster spot?
This is why our 2nd rd pick was traded - roster spots
but none of these guys deserve the 13th or 14th spot

I would sign Sampson you can always use a guy like that plus I think he's earned it. Depending on how summer league goes I wouldn't mind giving out a 2 way deal to Caboclo if he shows he's worth the investment.

I would much rather have Caboclo than Sampson. Sampson has high energy and effort but horrible team defense.

Assuming Temple opts out we have:

Center: Giles, WCS, Kosta
PF: Bagley, Skal, Zbo
SF: FA, Jackson, Caboclo?
SG: Bogdanovic, Hield, Shumpert
PG: Fox, Mason, ??

We have to get a Free Agent SF to compete with Jackson. Assuming Paul George isn’t coming home to Sac, Hezonja, McDermott or Parker look like the best options. The 15th spot could be Coboclo if Temple opts out.

We also need a vet back-up point guard. Shelvin Mack maybe? IT if we could get him cheap.

Caboclo also played a lot of garbage minutes and minutes against tanking teams at the end of the year so I'd take his stats with a grain of salt. I wouldn't mind holding on to him but not if it means he's taking a roster spot away from a possible free agent or trade targets that can help the team get better.

I think Caboclo is a PF for the record, he's just got such a frame on him that as he gets older and adds weight idk how he's gonna hang on the perimeter..

I hope they keep him and Wenyen Gabriel somehow even if it's on 2-way deals.

I think those stats are vastly exaggerated. If you're going to do that, I think it's almost mandatory to include the minutes played.

Sacramento will not tender a qualifying offer to forward Bruno Caboclo, league sources tell ESPN. Both sides agreed to move on. He’s now a free agent
I was hoping we could get him on a 2-way deal. At this point, I think his time is running short. Maybe he gets lucky and a team is willing to gamble on his length and potential. However, he's been in the NBA for 4 years, but he's still not NBA caliber.

Now they need to renounce Nigel Hays to get rid of his active roster contract/cap hold

to get us up to the full 18.7 cap amount
ugh, I just saw our team salary and we're paying PapaG $2million, Barnes $2.1million, and Butler $500k. Dammit Vlade. 2019 looks very good, but very team has cap space in 2019.

Yeah I could see us renouncing Nigel and bringing him back after the FA frenzy. Would that be possible?

well his 1.3 mil salary for next year is non-guarenteed, I dont know when it becomes guarenteed?
I am guessing they can cut him anytime up to that date, so if they need the cap or the roster space they could
cut him then

I definitely see the allure with him being only 22 with the perfect build, especially in the way the NBA is played now. Problem is he can't shoot at all, can't create his own shot and seems to have a low BBIQ. Also, Buddy and Bogdan were light years ahead of this kid 2 and 3 years ago. Tbh, my opinion on this kids potential development plays more into my complete lack of faith in this organizations ability to develop young players, especially someone so raw. There are a handful of teams I believe that could turn this kid into a quality player, this team is not one of them.

Ya he needs someone like current coach of the year for 3 years to make him better. No way the kings can.

What we’ve learned in the last 48 hours:-Garrett Temple opting in @$8m.-Bruno Caboclo not getting a qualifying offer.-JaKarr Sampson received QO for 2-way deal.

Wow ok I didn't know you could make a QO on a 2 way deal
so you can give an offer sheet for a 2 way contract?
or if JaKarr gets an offer sheet for a regular contract we can match
Im so confused
