And yeah, the fact that Vivek has been spending so much time with Divac is a STRONG sign that Divac will be taking over - why would Vivek waste so much precious time palling around with Vlade unless they were going over basketball plans for next year?

Hahaha, right?!?! I mean, with Vivek there are bigger nits to pick, but it is pretty funny that he is rocking the shaka in every photo op!

I wonder how many think tanks, focus groups, and meetings he called to decide on the Shaka.

I for one have no idea what Mullin's opinions on roster moves/play were. It's kinda hard to tar and feather without info. For all we know he may have pushed for Malone and PDA wanted him out.

True. But that is exactly what the problem is. If you have a GM, why do you need a basketball advisor? Especially is that advisor doesn't have a stellar resume in regards to front office basketball.

Too many people making decisions or providing opinions. Player/personnel decisions should stop with the GM. But it's not even clear who had the power. So Mullin leaving would at least start to clear some of the noise.

I have no idea what we do about a GM though. I think PDA is gone but does Vlade replace him. It's feasible when you have Karl who can also provide input.

What a mess.....

As jobraver says, are you sure or are you just counting heads? I don't know either. If it's bad do you think ownership will change it or have they already? I sure don't know. We'll see.
 
Here's the interesting thing with D'Alessandro - I have absolutely no idea how much credit or blame to give him for ANY of the moves made during his tenure. With Petrie, it was abundantly clear when he had full control and an open checkbook. Drafting Peja? His move. Drafting JWill? His move. Dealing Richmond for Webber? His move. Signing Vlade? His move. Hiring Adelman? Absolutely his move. Dealing Corliss for Christie? His move. Trading Williams for Bibby? His move. Even the ones that didn't work out. Drafting Douby? Definitely a Petrie move. Later on the waters got murkier. Dealing JB for Mateen? That was a salary dump and hard to see it being his call. Peja for Artest? The Maloofs were said to be involved. Drafting Jimmer? I can see arguments either way but I'm sure the Maloofs had a say. Drafting TRob? I blame Geoff but his stated rationale was that he thought he was going to be forced to let JT walk and not have a starting PF. Point being, for a long stretch I knew that Geoff was to be praised or blamed for moves.

But with PDA?

Malone was hired before him.
Landry seems like a guy Malone wanted.
McLemore? Seems like his pick but hard to say
McCallum? Definitely a D'Alessandro move
The Gay trade? Seems PDA floated the idea and Vivek pushed him to do it.
Stauskas? Looking at the draft room it's hard to say it was PDA's call.
Firing Malone? D'Alessandro says it was his call but was it really?
Hiring Karl? After emphatically stating that Corbin would finish the year?

For sure the Kings front office has had some major blunders since Vivek took over but how much of that blame falls on D'Alessandro? How much on Ranadive? How much on Mullin?

I miss having a good, solid GM who was allowed to do his job.

Some people are worth their weight in gold doing supportive roles. When given the lead they fall flat. PDA may be one of those.

He reportedly has some abilities in the numbers crunching and legal mumbo-jumbo. Let him do the paperwork and Karl and Divac do the talent evaluations.

I don't know any specifics. Just that it's not working under the current model as evident by the mess created this year.

Things won't get better until Vivek lets the basketball guys do their basketball things. PDA seems like a yes man. If anyone has a chance to get Vivek to stop tinkering with things he doesn't know about, it's Vlade.

Mullin leaving seems like a good thing (again, we can't really tell since there's so many people involved), but Vivek needs the overhaul.

I didn't say overhaul for the team. As a team, continuity is the most important. Vivek, however, needs to overhaul his attitude. He needs to realize that he needs to understand something before he can radically change it successfully. You can't just boilerplate it with a tech attitude. Let the guys that you paid millions do their thing, watch quietly, ask questions, learn, and then get feedback.

I think Karl is going to have way more say in player acquisitions than Malone ever had. With Mullin out that would be one less voice of inanity in house.

It remains to be seen what effect Vlade will have, but I think it's safe to say he'll be better than Mully, that guy is a kiss of death.

Anyone who burns the bridges with your franchise player for self interest or to gain an upper hand in the negotiations should be sacked immediately.

Dropping Cousins into the whole "Karl not signed because of DMC's management's disapproval" is a leak that quite possibly cost both PDA and Mullin their jobs and it so well should. Hell, sacking Mike Malone should cost them their job. They have set this franchise back a lot. For every good move they have made, there are 5 that have been terrible.
 
Mully possibly going to St. Johns? Could we be so fortunate??
