Bucks get Magloire for Mason

That's mroe than a little surprising. Why would they do that? They need all the talent they can find.

Edit: Just checked -- ending contract too. So ??? Had generally assujmed he would be a decent fit as one of Phil's patented off the bench three point shooters. Then they just give him away for no particular salary cap advantage?

Ironic that the Bobcats now get to play with our old almost coulda been hyper-atheltic swingman duo of Wallace and Jones.

The Lakers reduced their logjam at small forward by one Wednesday, sending Jumaine Jones to the Charlotte Bobcats for a conditional second-round draft pick.

The pick is contingent on where the Bobcats finish this season. The Lakers will receive Charlotte's second pick in the 2006 NBA Draft provided the Bobcats don't finish with one of the five best records in the league. If they do, the Lakers will get Charlotte's 2007 second-round pick, with Phoenix getting this year's.

Jones played one year with the Lakers after being acquired from Boston along with Chris Mihm and Chucky Atkins for Gary Payton, Rick Fox and a future first-round draft pick. He averaged 7.6 points and 5.2 rebounds in 76 games last season.

But with Deaven George and Luke Walton, two other small forwards with experience under Phil Jackson and more versed in the triangle offense, Jones was a logical player to move via a trade.

From the Bobcats' standpoint, Jones was attractive because he's in the last year of his contract.

"I told the team it's certainly no indication of the best player or the most liked or disliked or least valuable player that we sent away," Jackson said. "It's a situation where sometimes contracts are more amenable to other teams and some players are more moveable."

The deal leaves the Lakers with 18 players on the roster, three over the mandatory limit. They have until 3 p.m. Monday to set their 15-man roster.

The final two roster spots will likely come down to Laron Profit, Corie Blount, Devin Green and Tony Bobbitt.

Profit, who came to the Lakers this summer from Washington with Kwame Brown, has four years of NBA experience and is very steady. He's impressed Jackson during the preseason.

"Laron's a poised player. He's got control. He knows what he's doing with the ball when he has it," Jackson said. "He's got the ability to score and he can make plays. That's what we like to see in guards that may have to be lead guards."

Thought it migh be that. The ridiculous old love affair with Devean George. But I highly encourage Mitch to keep on loving him -- makes our chances against the Lakers look all the better.
