Breton: Kings franchise shaken by Malone's firing

For all the investment of regional passion and millions of public dollars to keep the Kings in Sacramento, the organization remains as fragile as a dove’s egg.

The fan base has been roiling since coach Michael Malone was fired, a move followed by a regression in team play that ruined a promising start to the season. The culprit, in the eyes of some, is the same franchise managing partner who just weeks ago was still feted locally as a savior.

“I’ve spent hours talking with them. They understand,” [D'Alessandro] said. What of reports that the players were mad because they learned about Malone on Twitter? “I’m trying to protect them and not put them in a weird spot by giving them too much information that makes them complicit,” he said. “It’s not their responsibility to deal with this. It’s mine.”

"Complicit"? Because they know something before the media does? (Starts updating potential question for Monday morning...)

I said it on Twitter and I'll repeat it here. What I heard him say with that particular passage was: "Now, don't you worry your pretty little head about all this complicated basketball information. Everything's fine. I'll take care of it all. You just go back and play your little game."

Complicit - adj. involved with others in an illegal activity or wrongdoing.

Oh the great Pete D'Alessandro! Saviour of the Kings players, how can we ever repay you for your generous actions? May he continue his good works!

I'm still not totally sure if Pete isn't just fumbling his words and meanings. That's a bad habit to have if your a GM. Now you know why Petrie was very vague huh? If internal leaks are an issue and that's why the twitterverse found out before the players you simply find out who was the source and then either fire them or fine them. Problem solved. Problem is though that I have a feeling the source of the leaks might be the one at the top of management.

Especially when said GM is also an attorney and was an agent.

As far as finding out who was the source of the leak, that's almost impossible to do.

That's definitely one way of interpreting it and might well be the case.

When I read it my first thought was that really he just wanted to fire Malone under cover of darkness, likely because he knew the players would oppose it.

Telling Boogie or any player in advance likely would have started an argument. By not telling them they were forced to accept the move as being done.

I think Pete bought himself some time with firing Malone. He hasn't been able to pull of any noteworthy trades over the summer and his roster is unbalanced so he took his shot when it was open. Shame on you PDA but make no mistake your still on the clock.

Can't believe Pete really said that...he doesn't want to accept he messed up and wants to act as if the players are not professionals and grown men, most of them at least...

I predict with a guy like PDA at the mike "answering questions" on Monday, Kings Fans will be MORE disturbed and have MORE questions once he's done talking.
Probably right.....for me there is literally nothing he can say to satisfy me....... Unless he comes out says we just inked George Karl to a contract.

I just think this is going to go bad for him and I will have my popcorn ready to listen to the podcast.

Good lord PDA is a POS.

Thanks for thinking the coach was flawed instead of our weak roster. Thanks for convincing our naive tool of an owner into believing the same. Thanks for setting the franchise back half a decade.

F you Pete.
