Breaking: Artest Traded to Houston

Ron Artest to Houston?

I don't post much, but do spend a good deal of time reading Kingsfans so I hope this has some credability to it. Anyway, take it for what it is worth...

Personally I think it COULD be a good deal depending on who the other player to be named is. If it is Donte Greene, the Kings did well. We are well on our way to rebuilding if this is true.

Bobby Jackson, 1st Rounder, player believed to be Donte Green.
In a lot of ways a good thing, but obviosuly that's firesale type pricing. Wonder if the market was overstated again and we finally just decided to get out while the getting was good? Certainly with Artest and losing nobody major the Rockets could be absolute monsters next year for Rick, so that first is going to be low. Getting Greene is a major plus though. Now if we can just make the Brad thing happen + get Noah out of it, I will officially declare the rebuild underway.

Hmm.... The article makes it sound like a done deal.

Getting a future 1st and expiring for Artest isn't bad. I'm ok with it if it indeed goes down. I doubt the Rockets give up Greene but if they do, all the better.

Artest for a future 1st + expiring is not bad. If Greene (or even Aaron Brooks) is thrown in then GP is a genius, but I don't think Rockets is that desparate for Artest, are they?

I guess we'll find out soon enough.

Pretty nice getting Greene out of it; he's a Tim Thomas type player in that he can shoot with range and has the athletic skills to be something more in the league, and he's already shown some great flashes with 40 pt outburst in the summer leagues. He's not the aggressive enforcer/hustler we want, but combined with Thompson and Hawes he's a solid fit in that he can make defenses pay from the outside (now Hawes needs to focus more on his inside game). B-Jax brings old memories back here, although his return most likely spells the end of Quincy Douby--probably should've sent him the other way. A 1st rounder is always great in this scenario. Nice way to get rid of Artest.

Hmm. Don't know much about Greene, but he seems to be fairly well regarded. I was expecting very little for Artest for some time, so this is great news. Better than him suspended and getting nada.

Used to love Bobby's game a bunch, til Shaq busted his hand. Wonder know in fact if he'll make the team?

I like Greene and Brooks fine, but you are talking about them there liek they are stars. They are just mid-20s picks. Good looking ones maybe, but that's hardly a price to pay from the Rockets perspective for them suddenly being able to put together a really scary looking team with a Yao/TMac/Artest trio. And Artest/Battier TOGETHER on the wings when its time to shut people down? My goodness.

Let's not overrate Donte Greene here (even though I must say, I am more than intrigued), because if history has anything to say about it, let's hope he doesn't get too complacent and just become a one-dimensional three point chucker. He's had consistency and work ethic issues a la Tim Thomas, so he might not reach his full potential (even though reaching perhaps 75-80% of his potential may be good enough for our team). I can definitely see him becoming a good cog for us given his height vs. outside shooting type skillset, but anything more may be stretching it.

If this is the deal that goes through, have to say, pretty stellar haul for Artest. A 1st Rounder AND a young big and an expiring is a really solid deal. It would have been nice to have shed KT, but he'll expire in '10 anyway. I'm pretty happy with this.

thats a squad.... eventhough they still dont have a pf... but tmac, artest and yao is a big 3 that no team in the league will want to face for 7 games if they are all healthy...

The first rounder is going to be about #25+, but Greene was a guy who I would have liked us to try to pick up with a second pick, so that's nifty. Basically two first round picks in the deal (and we basically got two this season as it turns out (Thompson + Greene)).

Now if we can somehow pull off the Brad for Noah thingie, we would basically have gotten four #1s in two years, and all of them 6'10"+. That would be a true rebuild.

Everything but the mystery player seems to be confirmed.

In exchange for Artest, the Rockets will send guard Bobby Jackson, an unidentified player and a first-round pick to Sacramento, sources within the NBA confirmed to 11 News on Tuesday.

Much later than I wanted, but glad it's finally over with.

I wonder who all we're waiving (or not signing for the regular season) to make room?

When can we get the details of it for sure???
Soon no doubt. The Houston Chron is not a cheap rag so I suspect they sourced it well. If it's Greene then they must have really liked what they saw in summer league from second round pick Maarty Leunen who is a 6'9/220 deadly deep shooter. I'd be surprised if it's Brooks instead since the Rockets are pretty weak at PG and even SG when TMac not there.

One thing for sure with Artest a Houston Rocket - what lock down D! Lots of 75-70 games and maybe a bunch of 65-60 ones.

We now have so many young players that I doubt we'd actually end up using that pick, I'd bet it's used in a trade between now and the next draft, either to move up or for someone else.

And yeah -- now with a Brad trade things would seriously be on their way.
