Bonzi's Agent Say Sign-And-Trade Options Will Be Discussed

[/SIZE]Sacramento Bee - William Phillips, agent for Bonzi Wells, told the Sacramento Bee that he will discuss sign-and-trade options with the Kings.

His optimism that a sign-and-trade deal can get done appear futile, as the Kings will likely try to stay below the luxury tax threshold.

The club has $800,000 remaining from their mid-level exception and a separate exception worth $1.75 million.

hmmmm.... geoff has got to get a defensive big if a sign and trade does happen with bonzi...

question is... what trades are possible?

Pacers/Hornets/Bucks/Wizards/Nuggs/Mavs are S/T possibilities that would get us a big man the piece or included.

Of course they want to try to do a S&T it's the only way Bonzi can get more than we were offering him. Everyone else has the MLE.

The trick is finding a team that is willing to pay Bonzi at least 8 if not 9 mill, AND has a piece(s) that we want, AND the team is willing to give up that piece(s) for Bonzi.

This scenario is also known as Bonzi is F.U.B.A.R.

I'm sure it's been discussed but can a Bonzi S&T with KT and or Hart included in it be done?

Yeah, I remember when Eddy Curry was S&Ted to the Knicks last year there were other players included. I think if we included enough salary we might be able to only go over the lux tax by a bit but there are rules with these things so it's complicated.

But a S&T with all of those teams would leave us over the tax level, and I don't think that's going to happen.

Well, just saying those are the teams we'd be looking at from our perspective and theirs.

Either way I see us getting big men without Bonzi involved.

That's what I'd be looking for if I was the GM... sure, we'll work with Bonzi for a S&T... BUT we must be able to package him with someone else who is "expendable" and get a decent big. Otherwise, there's nothing in it for us.

it probably can be done in heory but won't be done due to the fact that kenny thomas is in that package... i dont think anyone would want him... to make things worse jason hart is in that possible deal...

I was just saying "AND OR".

I'm just hoping we can get something for Bonzi.

if bonzi wants to sign w/ a team that is under the cap... we could possibly pull one of those Kenyon Martin to Denver deals and get a couple draft picks out of it...

the deal that went down was KMART to denver for 3 1st round draft picks. NJ didn't take any salary back i don't believe. Denver could not offer him the years and amount of $$ NJ could bc they did not have his bird rights. NJ S&T'd him for 3 1st round picks..

can we dream? :)

ahhh.... ok the blazers and bulls (since they have the knicks first round pickin 2007?) are a chance to get the 1st pick overall for the 2007 draft... lets get that for bonzi :D

GREG ODEN TO SAC!!!

:p

Big man, big man, big man, big man, big man. Make it happen please. I want the Kings to be one of the best teams in the league and i dont want to fight for who gets Oden.

A S&T isn't going to happen. Once again I am very unhappy that the Maloofs are cheaping out here, as they could really help this team with a signing. However, I understand that they have a very small arena and are in a very small market, due to this it's much more costly to be big spenders like Los Angeles Dallas and New York...

The trade that I think has the most realistic liklihood IF a SnT were to happen would be with the sixers....

Bonzi Wells for Samuel Dalembert

then

Vitaly Potapenko, Jason Hart for 2nd round pick and some cash while using the philly 4.5 trade exception.

Unless of course we could actually GET Oden. That might be worth it. ;)

A sign and trade that also includes Kenny and gets us a defensive big man plus a first round draft pick might work out financially for the Maloofs if it also works within the cap.

Oden really doesn't seem all that good to me. I haven't see much of him but I really don't get all the hype from what I have seen.

If we could get a 1st rounder out of a team that would be...well...unlikely. But even more unlikely is finding a team to pay Bonzi what he wants.

Actually, now that you bring it up, a first round pick and a trade exception would be a great deal for us if there's anyone who would make that trade. Not only would we get something (a potentially valuable rookie) for losing Bonzi, but a trade exception might make it easier to move that Kenny Thomas contract to someone else.

Well DUH! what would Philoips say? "I am really confident a team will give my client the full MLE."

So now that he KNOWS he is Petrie's B*#&H it;s up to Phillips to try and MAKE a S&T go down AND he knows it has to be a deal that Petrie and the Maloofs will at least consider. SO in effect Phillips is working for the Maloofs now on Bonzi's dime. Personally I wish him luck but if I were GP when the phone rang I'd ask him... "Who's your daddy?"

Unless you went to his high school (scouts included) - neither has anyone else I bet.

Not sure if you've read these...:

Still can't get over how he looks 30, when he's just 18. A year of college should help a bunch.

Betcha there is NOT a S & T involving Bonzi. There is likely not anyone out there so high on Petrie's list to warrant doing a S&T. The only 2 big men who would warrant a deal for the Kings IMHO are Foster and Biedrins.

So maybe a 3 or 4 team deal where Kings get only 1 guy for Bonzi and others get involved to reduce the overall impact on the Kings. But somehow, don't think that is going to happen either.

This is just a replay of the Bee article, as spun by realGM. There is no new info. here.

I am not getting this.. We signed Salmons. We moved on. Bonzi's agent screwed himself and Bonzi out of millions. S&T is not an option. We don't have the cap space. Why do him a favor and take on matching salaries after he allowed his agent to give us a big "screw you".

Agents are what's wrong in sports.

Not only don't we have the cap space, it's obvious people weren't that interested in Mr. Wells or Petrie would have had something to work with. It will rain frogs in downtown Las Vegas before Petrie even thinks about doing anything that will pull Phillips' chestnuts out of the fire now.

Let it serve as a lesson to future FAs and their agents. Be very careful before you decide you want to wait for the better deal.

Um...to not lose the talent as a deadloss? But obviously it has to be something that works for us.

As an aside, while there is a lot of "screw Phillips" sentiment on this board, unfortunately that's normally not the way it works. GMs normally try not to pee agents off for fear of future reprecussions. Of course that all depends what the rest of Phillips' client list looks like. If its just Bonzi, screw away. If its half the All-Star team, gotta play nice.

Magloire would. I'd take one of the Hornets young bigs. Etan or Haywood? Not sure we do that for Bonzi, but we obviously couldn't get any better for him then if so. Dalembert maybe.

Hmmmm....

Where'es the quote saying if that they will try to stay under the lux thres cap, but if it's something worthwile, he'll do it.
