Bodiroga to play for Kings???

Hehe...I could speak about Dejan Bodiroga till tomorow, that is my brother  First of all,he has 32 years now,and his contract with Barcelona comes to the end this summer. In his club situation is not well, and Dejan probably won't resigned, but we'll see.
About his playing, well he is the best player in Europe since he got MVP award in Greece 1998. on the World Championship. There is one sentence which every GM of European club is saying "If you want to win a title you must have Bodiroga in your team".He isn't so quick, that is true, but you had chance to watch him on the WC in Indianapolis 2002. He crashed Argentina in the finals.Last year in Belgrade when we played against USA Bodiroga was injured, but he played cuz' he really wanted to do it.When he came on the court in his first contact with the ball,he passed Iverson like A.I. was some amateur, really! For his 205cm,I don't think that he is slow, and if he is,he can supersede that with his quality.
Anyway, when I talked with him about Sacramento he said that he has all in Europe, and that he isn't interesting to come in America, especially not now,but he likes to say "Never say never"!

Peja - He can say "never say never" but, unfortunately for him if Sacramento is finally something he's going to consider, the ship more than likely has already sailed.

He may have been MVP in 1998, but that was a LONG time ago, especially in NBA years. If he's not going to be resigned in Europe, I cannot imagine a scenario whereby Petrie would give up a roster slot to him here. We don't need another aging "superstar," and that's assuming he would even do well in the NBA which is by no means guaranteed.

we all know what he did to MELO ... schooled him

he might not be quick .... but has the skills

What does that have to do with ANYTHING? Melo wasn't playing on an NBA team at the time. He was playing with a bunch of relative strangers in the Olympics while Bodiroga was playing with his old friends his national team.

Let's try and keep things just a little realistic, okay?

he is a superstar ... ok ... but he is a great team player ... any team would want that ...

i just dont think he would come here

I agree,I wouldn't like to see him in Kings roster.Before 3-4 years off course,but now-NO!
As I told his planes are latent for Europe and I was supprised when I saw that he mentioned possiblillty to come to Kings again!
And I don't think that we should disscus about his quality, you can ask eny coach in Europe who is the best player NOW,everyone will say-Bodiroga ;)

Ljubo - He has skills. No one is denying that. BUT that doesn't mean those skills would enable him, especially at this point in his career, to become a major player in the NBA.

There are VAST differences between the NBA and playing in Europe. Bodiroga has been worshipped as a deity; that would NOT happen here. He would have to start over and win the approval of the majority of fans and, quite frankly, I think he'd be out of his mind to even risk doing that.

I'll discuss the quality of ANY potential King. My point is that he may well be the best player in Europe but that does NOT mean he'll automatically make it in the NBA, and at a comparable level. There are major differences between Euro and NBA play, some subtle and some pretty obvious. European players stress different aspects of the game and it often takes them a couple of years to adapt to the NBA ways of play.

Let's put it this way: If Dejan came to the Kings in say, 1999 or even 2000, I am convinced, that we would be talking about when are we going to win the second NBA championship now. Now, it is too late and I don't want to see one of the greatest European players of all time come off the bench and struggle for touches in his twilight. Nor do we need that.

Dejan is probably just floating this out to put pressure on Barcelona.

And, by the way, beside the stats and incredible streak of championships, the most notable "thing" about Dejan is the intangibles: seemingly inexhaustive ability to improvise and perform in the clutch, will and determination to win, amazing ability to recognize what defense is giving him (better then most coaches he played for). His sloweness would never be hindrance to him in the NBA. In fact I think he would quickly earn the label of "deceptively quick". Alas, it was not meant to be, Dejo.

Besides, we already have an SG in a forwards body (looking at you Pedja).;)

Well he schooled Ben Wallace and the other guys in 2002 and then schooled the entire Argentina team so I will give him the benefit of the doubt. There is not one player currenly in the NBA today that is more clutch then he is. He is just amazing. I wish you had a chance to watch him VF21 because you would appreciate his game and desire to win.

If you get schooled 1 on 1, what difference does it make who's on your team or the other guy's team???

You make it sound like Bodiroga's "old friends" jumped in and held Melo while Dejan went around him :D

Whatever, Deathrow...

If that makes you feel good - a seasoned veteran schooling a YOUNG KID who is totally new to international competition - then more power to you. I see no relevance whatsoever in comparing how Bodiroga did in the Olympics against Carmelo Anthony to how he could do against regular NBA seasoned veterans during the regular season in the NBA.

I think he'd be an idiot to come here, unless he's looking at it financially.

He's got it made down there ... he lives in a beautiful city and the people worship him. To risk giving that up to go to a place where he will have to prove himself all over (at age 32) is just not smart decisionmaking..and that's not part of Bodiroga's character.

He is definitely not coming.

Ok fine...Is Ben Wallace a young kid as well?

It's not 2002, or 2003 ... or 2004.

Past glories in international competition are NOT indicators of future glory in the NBA, especially for someone who is regrettably and inevitably getting older.

I've had the chance to watch some international competitions over the years and Bodiroga was, indeed, something special. But, just like EVERY other professional basketball player, he is eventually going to start to fade. I am not Geoff Petrie, so the decision is not mine, but I would certainly think a very long time about bringing him over now - especially if he's in any danger of not being resigned by his own Euro team.

I understand that for some of our Serbian members the idea of having their premiere player on the Kings is a very interesting fantasy. But I don't see it happening because it's just too late. A few years ago, why not? But now, as the Kings are obviously retooling and thinking towards the future, he just wouldn't fit into the plans IMHO.

So he took him to school, big deal. He's an unproven quantity in the NBA, and as far as I'm concerned that's how it will and should stay.

You must have a very rich vocabulary since your every other word is "whatever".

EVERYONE is unproven quaNtity in NBA. QuaLity is a whole different story. Now, all B.S. aside I would not want to see him in NBA. Not because I doubt his skills but because I doubt he would get a decent chance to prove himself.

Also, who wants to go from a God in Europe to a benchwarmer in NBA at 32???

Very erudite response.

And yes, as a matter of fact, I have a plethora of words available to me. I simply choose to use "whatever" whenever I find it to be the most appropriate for the situation at hand.

You doubt he would get a chance to prove himself? May I inquire as to your rationaliztion for that statement? If the Sacramento Kings or any other NBA franchise would be willing to pay to bring Dejan Bodiroga to the US and have him on their roster, why wouldn't they play him?

So what is the whole point of this discussion (or better yet, your argument) if you do not want to see him in the NBA ?

I'm new to this board...so hello Kings-fans ;)

I just wanna drop my 2cents: Bodiroga is a superb player without a doubt, a "GOD" in Europe. He actually won everything there is to win here in Europe so why shouldn't he give it a try in the nba? He just turned 32 a few days ago..don't think that's to old:s
Here's a quote I heard Yesterday when I saw the football (you call it soccer..haha) match Arsenal - Bayern;

"Dennis Bergkamp is almost 36 years old now..but he seems to be like a good wine..getting better every year!"
