Hall of Famer
In a monumental thriller between 2 giants of the NBA - Kings prevailed in Seattle
and got their first road victory against the West. Kings also stopped the losing streak at 2 games and improved to 19 - 24 for the season. This historical victory gives Kings more confidence in their quest to be the 17th best team in the NBA since for some unexplained reason Leastern conference is still allowed to keep all of their 8 PO spots. Now Kings have 5 game home stand before going on the road for 9 of 10 games
------------------------------------------------------------------------
Due to watching too much tennis at night - I had to change my working schedule a bit so I missed 3 games or actually I missed the Nets game and
was fortunate enough to do other things while we were raped by clippers and Jazz. So after the heroic victory in Seattle we are still playing around .500 ball as of late or even better than that if we consider the last 10 games (6-4). So upcoming 5 game home stand is a perfect opportunity for us to solidify our mediocrity. Most of the games are winnable. We play Bobcats who as bad as they might seam to be - have beaten Clippers this season both times. Then we play Hornets which will be a real test and the way that they have been playing as of late - we will be an underdog of large proportions. Then we have Bulls who beat us barely in Chicago, Sonics who don't qualify as a NBA team and the Jazz who we have beaten @ ARCO before. Except Hornets/Bulls back to back we will also get enough rest between games. A sweep - which won't happen - would get us to 0.500 before a brutal road schedule which will be interrupted by ASB and the trade deadline will happen during that time span too. Should be interesting.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
Continuing the advertisement for the rebuilding process using the examples of Durant and Green especially since neither one of them played well. Makes no difference because it is a perfect scenario. Young kids learning the ways of the NBA and making their mistakes while the team is on the way to another high pick and a decent pick to continue the process. Sure - You might not be impressed with those kids at the moment but soon enough they might not be as overrated as Lebron;) but they will be overrated enough - trust me. Durant will be a star in this league soon and he will be so for the long time and pretty soon those 5-20 will disappear and he will pay us back with interest
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
You know - Your franchise is on Your way down when You have players and the fans celebrating the game winner against a sucky team that has lost 14 games the same way they celebrated Bibby's basket in game 5 or Martins basket against the Spurs in the last PO series that Kings have played. It is fine - I guess - ignoring reality and fantasizing about playoffs and I used word "fantasizing" because that is as close as we will get to that for a while. The standards around here sure have dropped dramatically. There aren't really any left. Not just the way we play but also the way our player are behaving on the court. We might be much closer to an implosion or an explosion than we think we are and if the Pistons or the Jazz game is a preview - I don't want any part of it.
------------------------------------------------------------------------
Speaking of behavior or lack there of - Ron Artest makes me sick these days as his degree of retardation increases exponentially. So we have to admit that we were retarded taking him and we have to accept that possibly - we will find no team which is more retarded than us. Even if we find someone like that we will be a second winner in that deal so just ask Yourself - If the team that has gotten Ron is on the better part of the deal - where does that leave us ? Letting Pedja walk away for nothing - sure looks like a great deal right now. Just look at Pacers who are still recovering from that explosion. I could ask a general question - how bad can it get - just don't answer it because we really, really never need to find that one out.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
So Kings won the game against the team that has lost 14 in a row now. We barely won it at the buzzer and that would be fine except that our opponent was the Sonics. We lead the whole game until giving up the lead late in the game and we needed their best player to miss 15 of 20 shots for us to win the game. We needed all of them. The stats and game parameters are totally irrelevant since this opponent wasn't a test of any kind. We did however win our first road game against the team from the West which is impressing. It was the first time in a long time where Wilcox didn't look like Amare
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
AWARD TIME

Petro gets the TDM but it wasn't very impressive yet since he doubled his season averages - it is his

LW-VC award went to Durant and we needed it in a worst way. This won't happen many more times

RA&1 award went to Luke Ridnour who had a bad night and he couldn't even find Brad's shoulder to cry on:D

WTF moment of the game - if I remember correctly - we had a 3 on 1 fastbreak that didn't end well
--------------------------------------------------------------------
Bobcats are next and they shouldn't be underestimated as they own Clippers who own us. They are still in the middle of the PO mix in the Leastern conference. They are 18-27 but they did beat some very good teams like Celtics. They are very athletic, have a decent starting 5 and legit front court.
Actually - I would say that they are underachieving a bit but they have started to play better but they don't defend as well as team. We have to sort out the mess called team chemistry. For us to win - we have to rebound and take care of the ball and pray that JRich - I don't even want to go there
---------------------------------------------------------------------
Bibby - sloppy play
Kevin - Clutch
Ron - booooooooooo
Brad - nice numbers - decent impact
Mikki - plays way too much for what he is giving us
Bench - solid
Coach T - how long will he keep it under control ?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Bobcats are 4-13 on the road, they are playing .500 ball as of late and they have won 2 straight on the road. With JRich - they have one of the ultimate Kings killer. Wallace has turned into a solid player on both ends, Okafor hasn't been very consistent and Felton has been decent too. TDM will go to Matt Carol LW-VC will go to McInnis. Other awards probable. We have to play well to win this game

amen to that. jrich is a kings killer. and any big man over 7ft that has a vertical higher than 10 inches will abuse us in the paint. kings must rebound and keep the ball moving on offense!

I'm cheering for my man Gerald Wallace to go off for 30 and 10... and a Kings win!

It's not going to be easy though... Okafor, Wallace, Richardson... that's a tough triple threat right there. Why the Bobcats don't have a better record is beyond me.

The Bobcats would be a very good team, possibly around 45 wins, if it werent for the injury bug, that we all know so well here in Kingsland. Losing both Sean May AND Adam Morrison for the year was not cool.

It'll be funny to see this forum in 3-4 years when we will be back on an upswing. I doubt there will be any noticeable drop-off in overall negativity.

Don't get me wrong piksi, I'm a long time lurker of these forums and I find your commentary witty, biting, and sometimes utterly true. However, the fact of the matter is, in a sphincter-esque season in which we are traveling through right now, you gotta take what you can get.

If your team barely wins at all, and when they do win, its against the rules to be excited, what's left? We'll all have plenty of time to bemoan, begrudge, and belittle this season in the weeks and months to come. Let's let that time come naturally.

If we don't try to start rebuilding now we won't be back on an upswing in 3-4 years:(

This seems easy to comprehend but requires too much insight for some. Don't hold your breath.

There's no rule against liking wins.

What makes this season sphincteresque is that we are enclosed on all sides. The rest of the NBA have all headed off towards the playoffs or the lottery, leaving virtually nobody in the middle. But us, the franchise with the near lock on 11th place in the West. And if we miss it, it won't be by much. Both the playoffs and the 5th draft pick are virtual impossibilities, so wins or losses just don't matter now. If the guys play hard, and the coach gets some player development time in, there's really nothing more to ask for.

LOL! Both at the game AND at the "off topic." I've been trying to figure out if I could split off the discussion about "middle teams" as at least 2/3 of this thread is presently off-topic.

:)

EDIT: I split off the discussion of teams stuck in the middle into its own thread since game discussion threads are locked and archived after the game. It's now called - drumroll please - "Stuck in the middle?"

I think that's really very on-topic! It's another suckfest between two lottery teams, and whatever happens tonight against the Bobcats, it's not likely to be any worse than that. :)

22 TOTAL points? Is that some kind of league record? Or is that another dubious honor the Kings hold that I've blocked from my memory?

I don't know what the record is but I know that Kings couldn't be this bad since we always allow enough points - not to worry about things like that;)

The record is 18, most recently by Detroit and Utah in 2005. Also Boston and Toronto in 2001. And just for history's sake, the fort Wayne Pistons and Syracuse Nationals in 1956.

Yeah, most of our records for badness are ephemeral things, which somebody like the Timberpups can blow away at any time. There's only one which we can be sure will stand for a long, long time. Years without a championship: 56.5, and counting.
