Birdman Suspended For Two Years
27th January, 2006 - 7:26 pm
The NBA announced today that Chris Andersen of the New Orleans/Oklahoma City Hornets has been dismissed and disqualified from the league for violating the terms of the Anti-Drug Program agreed to by the NBA and the National Basketball Players Association.

A veteran player such as Andersen who is dismissed from the league under the Anti-Drug Program cannot apply for reinstatement for at least two years.

The NBA, NBA teams, and the Players Association are prohibited from publicly disclosing information regarding the testing or treatment of any NBA player under the Anti-Drug Program, other than to announce a player's suspension or dismissal from the league.

eek: wow!

Has he been suspended before for drug use? 2 years seems lengthy. I don't know his history other than that I've always thought he was goofy looking.

What kind of drugs???

They won't say but this might give you an idea:

Players who test positive for steroids or performance enhancing drugs, masking agents and diurectics get a 10-game suspension (1st offense), a 25-game suspension (2nd offense), a one-year suspension (3rd offense) and disqualification (4th offense).
Marijuana penalties are a $25,000 fine (2nd offense), a five-game suspension (3rd offense), a 10-game suspension (4th offense), and five additional games for each subsequent violation.
Material from The Associated Press was used in this report.

So this is atleast his 4th Offense?!?!? I never heard of him getting suspended for drugs even once

Maybe he was doing a new space aged super drug.

"According to the league's collective bargaining agreement, a player can only be disqualified for a fourth positive test for performance-enhancing drugs, or a first positive test for "drugs of abuse."

"The drugs on that list are amphetamine and its analogs, which include methamphetamine; cocaine; LSD; opiates, including heroin, codeine and morphine; and PCP."

So if it is not on that list, can one get a more strick penatly....such as a ban from NBA. What other drugs are really bad that is not on that list? MDMA? G?

The first thing I thought with Birdman was marijuana. But it doesn't look like that could be the case. I suppose MDMA or crystal meth is a possibility. He still thinks Metallica is a good band, so it has to be something.

I don't recall a previous suspension either. I am not impressed by the secrecy laws. Everyone should have a voice. I also think they shouldn't test for marijuana, which is a fairly benign drug but also a drug that stays in your system for a long time. To quote a Bill Maher joke, "No one has ever smoked marijuana and then gone and killed his spouse. People have smoked marijuana and forgotten to kill his spouse."

Maybe the All-Star weekend could replace 2-ball with a "Banned for Life" game. Stanley Roberts, Birdman, Roy Tarpley, Michael Ray Richardson: that would be a strong team.

I guess that means he won't be embarrassing himself in the Slam Dunk contest this year...
Could be why he embarrassed himself last year.

It's got to be for steroids/performance-enhancing drugs. Look at his physique this year and look back at him last season.

I don't think he got that big neck from getting high.

It looks like 2 different people; a tanned, healthy athlete above and a hefty, mullet-sporting stoner below.

it couldnt have been for 'riods. as stated in the earlier posts, to be kicked out for roids it would have to be your 4th offense. He hasn't had any 'riod violations in his career. Had to have been something from the "abuse" list quoted in the previous post.

It was definitely a hard drug of some sort. No other explanation for the sudden ban. We would have known if he had been suspended before.

If you screw around with the second pic and erase his hair, his neck doesn't look very different from the first pic. Doubt its roids. My guess, Peyote.
