Big Men we can draft with our 2nd round or late first pick

With the possibility of Trading Miller, Moore, or Williams or maybe non-extensions(Williams)/buy-out(Moore), we'll be running out of big men by next season. So regardless of who we draft with our top 5(hopefully #1) pick, we might as well draft another big off the bench.

As of the today, I'm seeing a sleeper in Luke Nevill(maybe for our 2nd round pick if his stock will not rise). Not sure how draft is going but the kid is having pretty decent numbers: 16.8ppg, 8.2rpg 2.2bpg and shooting at 61.2% from the field. And his a legit 7 footer (listed as 7'3" in some sites).

How about your other potential bench big men that we can use off the bench?

I'm a fan of Taj Gibson especially with that late 1st pick. Athletic and skilled, and I think he's been overshadowed by Mayo and now DeRozen.

Also wouldn't mind seeing Patrick Patterson or Jeff Pendergraph with that 2nd Round pick. Patterson might be too undersized, Pendergraph too unskilled, but both are really athletic.

Haven't seen Jerome Jordan, hopefully I'll catch one of his games.

Jordan is a long range project. Pretty athletic, but very skinny and needs to put on some muscle. Right now he's not much of a factor. I like Patterson and Pendergraph, but I don't think they'll slide to us in the second round. Sam Young is a real good player at the college level but vertically challenged for the NBA. Its possible that someone like Lawal could slide to the bottom of the first round, but I doubt it.

A player that I really like who is 6'10" but a SF, is Austin Daye out of Gonzaga. He's tall and long to go along with athletic. He's a very good outside shooter and he's not afraid to take it to the basket. He's has the makings of a very good defender. Plus he seems to have a toughness about him that I like.

Mullens is going to slide. I don't know how far, but I'll be stunned if he's a lottery pick. I suspose there's always some idiot thats willing to take a chance. I think Thabeet is going to slide, but will stay in the lottery this time around due the weakness of depth in this class.

What about Tyler Hansbrough.....i think he will be 20ish.

I think he could be a great 6th man.....our seventh behind cisco (hoping thompson becomes the starting pf.)

Me too on Gibson. He's an NBA player. I saw him beat B. Wright head to head. I think he could be an excellent addition.

Patrick Patterson or Tyler Hansbrough

Patterson is a great player and he can score easily. Also, Psych-T can play off the bench very well.

Hawes-Thompson-Patterson...

I would get Courtney Fortson with a 2nd round pick, but he is a PG. "Courtney Fortson, you can't measure him in an evaluation standpoint because of what he is made up mentally, that dude works on another level. He's a 5-10 guy who is cut from granite" - Rivals.com

7. Courtney Fortson 6’0’’ 185 PG Jefferson Davis HS (Montgomery, AL)

Fortson is a strong-bodied PG who gets into the lane and finishes with either hand. His jumpshot is a bit streaky, as he would drill 4 threes in one game and be totally off in the next. The one constant is that Fortson always knocked down his free throws, which is a big positive because he spends a lot of time at the charity stripe. Whether his jumpshot is falling or not, Fortson finds ways to score based on his tremendous combination of strength, quickness, and athleticism. He could look to pass a little more when he gets into the lane, but you can’t blame him for shooting in there because most of the time he either makes a lay-up or draws a foul. Fortson is a high-major prospect for the class of 2008, but would fit in very nicely with Southern Illinois because he looks exactly like Jamaal Tatum. - NBADraft.net

I saw him play recently, and when he entered the game, his team went on a...NO JOKE....90 to 45 run.

I gotta go with Taj Gibson as well. I never saw any of the other guys mentioned above play, but I'm impressed with him.

Watching the Arkansas/Texas game -- dude, this guy is 5'10"! Doesn't look very impressive to me -- I think he might be the first basketball player ever to have negative brain cells. 4.2 turnovers a game!
