big georgey

Well, there are some positives and negatives there. He's getting out-hustled on the glass, for sure, and his boxing out is atrocious. That would be my primary concern.

Offensively, he gets where he should be, and does seem to have some awareness. Overall? I had no delusions of grandeur. I think he could replace Koufos after he opts out next year...but that's probably about it.

Saw some nice touch on a hook and looks good in a pic in roll catching ball in hands that look soft and quickly getting ball to the rim. those same hands look the opposite of soft however when he is tryinv to wrangle a rebound though for some reason...Defensively looks slow to react

He looked better offensively.....moved a bit better.....defensively, my concern is that he's not a quick leaper off the floor meaning he's going to have to really work on footwork and positioning and what was said above...block out.

What he really needs to do is drop a significant amount of weight, way too much body fat on him which slows him down and makes him look like Godzilla out there.

I freely admit that I knew almost nothing about Papagiannis before the Kings drafted him. I read a bit online but didn't really bother learning a lot since he was projected as a late 2nd rounder for most of the run up to the draft.

But the guy I really did like was Ivica Zubac. And while he has a long way to go too he looks a hell of a lot better than Papa right now and has at least as much potential. Oh, and he went 32nd.

As always I'm keeping tabs on the guys I liked that the Kings didn't draft. Dejounte Murray isn't getting a lot of run with the Spurs right now (and bouncing back and forth between SA and Austin) but you can bet they'll develop him into the best version of what he can be. And I think he can be a heck of a player. Zubac has looked really good playing for the D-Fenders and McCaw has already become an important bench player for the Warriors.

If the Kings didn't want Baldwin at 13 I wished they would have traded down again and either picked up another pick or a vet. Maybe to Boston for #19 and #31 (you know Boston didn't want to keep all those picks) and they could have nabbed Murray, Skal, Zubac and McCaw.

I'd feel a hell of a lot better about the future of the Kings with that kind of haul.

Zubac, Murray & McCaw are all on competent organizations that are exceptional or on par with player development IMO. We can look back a hundred times and more about what Vlade SHOULD of done, the Kings drafted two projects with one project looking like he may be out of the league after a few seasons. The best we can hope for is to continue to acquire draft picks, specifically for the next draft, which is supposed to be guard heavy and have an array of productive to all-star potential talent. If Vlade manages to get himself a pick for this draft, then I can take the blow of Papa & Skal accounting for nothing and Malachi & Bogdanovic being serviceable at the very least.

They actually did try to trade down with Detroit if I recall

Skal account ting for nothing? He still has as much upside outside of Cousins IMO

Yeah, we would have one hellagood team right now if our GM's had picked the guys I was interested in. I was however, after the intial dissapointment of picking at 4, fine with Tyreke, ecstatic with Cousins, and pleasantly surprised when Ben dropped to us.

Considering team needs I would have taken Dejounte Murray with the 13th pick so he is the only player that I might get worked up about. McCaw had some tools but a history of injuries which always makes me hesitant.

Fortunately Vlade dumped Marco for a Malachi which should pay off and Bogdan might make us real happy next year, so an incomplete grade so far.

true. he does have size and athleticism. i had to watch the vid twice... he wasn't boxing out and poor rebounding instincts. he has size but doesn't know how to use it properly to get position and seal off his man. i hope they bring a big man coach and have him work just that aspect of his game. it would help him a long way

I mean, if it's any positive, he looks more basketball-ready than Sim Bhullar ever was.

I think you're thinking of Caris LeVert (who I was also high on) from Michigan. McCaw played in 65 of 66 games at UNLV and didn't have any medical red flags that I'm aware of. I liked both guys for the same reason (long SGs with good potential as 3&D guys and good passing for the position) but I only would have wanted LeVert if he dropped due to his medical history.

My guess is unteachable size and soft hands on offense.

Pretty much. Big with a reported 7'6" wingspan and fast end to end for his speed. As Kingsfan23 pointed out he's flashed a nice jumper in workouts (that I haven't seen in games) but really the pick was all about physical tools with the hope that he could be an impact player once he's in shape and with a LOT of work on his fundamentals and getting used to the speed of the NBA game.

Zubac doesn't quite have Papagiannis' size or wingspan and is more of a plodder but he's flashed a lot more skill IMO. And since both are throwback centers I'm not sure Papa's footspeed (north-south only as neither guy has much lateral quickness to speak of) is all that big a deal anyway.

Your right. I got the two mixed up.

Seeing you liked Dejounte Murray as well it will be interesting to follow his progress. With what was left at the 8th pick I would have been ok with him if we had kept that pick.

He probably wouldn't start at Kentucky this year and he is on an NBA team aka our team. Let that sink in

If the Kings had kept the 8th pick I was hoping against hope that Dunn would drop and was warming up to Jaylen Brown who I thought would be the guy to drop to 8. Given who was on the board I think you'd have to take Marquese Chriss at 8 and then nab Dejounte Murray at 22.

When the trade down happened I thought for sure they were taking Baldwin at 13. Hard to know how things would have unfolded from there.

I still have the same concerns I did predraft about Brown & Chriss but I don't fault Boston or Phoenix for those picks. If there's a guy who has the potential to be the best player in their draft class a few years but falls outside the top couple picks because he's raw or has medical or personality red flags that's worth gambling on. Same thing with Milwaukee and Maker but I was never high on him.

That was Paul George a number of years back. It was Cousins in his draft. That was Giannis in his draft. Embiid only slipped due to injury and Hinkie was smart to roll the dice with him
It was Myles Turner or Kelly Oubre last year. To be fair, last year I wanted Cayley-Stein. A lot. I thought he could be a game changer on defense though he didn't have star potential or the ability to be a second option on offense.

But in general small market teams should always swing for the fences IMO. It's their only real chance to build a winner outside of nabbing the #1 pick in one of those once a decade or so drafts when the draft has a Duncan or a LeBron.

he has the signature Koufos flip shot ... can't wait so see that shot for then next few years...(eye roll)

at the 17 sec mark. I'm a tad bothered that he didn't dunk it.... he's a monster...how is that not a dunk? his athleticism is not too good

If your responding to my post, funkykingston and I are referring to Dejounte Murray of Washington not Jamal Murray of Kentucky who was off the board by 8 anyways.

I like how you follow draft prospects. Seeing I have been a Kings fan since 85 I too had to get behind something besides our on court performance.

I was hoping Dunn would fall to 8 but also liked Brown a lot. There was a pre draft article called Jaylen Brown Renissance Man, its a good read about Jaylen's many interest outside of basketball. After reading it I would have loved to have him as a King.
