Bibby has surgery

According to a source close to the Kings, point guard Mike Bibby is undergoing surgery to repair the torn ligament in his left thumb this morning.

The procedure is a worst-case scenario as it pertains to the Kings' playoff hopes this season, as Kings coach Reggie Theus said Friday that Bibby would be out at least 10 weeks if surgery was needed.

Bibby was injured during practice on Thursday when he fell on the hand and an MRI on Friday revealed the tear.

I have had that injury -- tore mine when I went to steal the ball, the guy was making a pass and his hand was directly behind the ball as it hit my outstretched hand. The force bent my thumb over all the way pretty much flat onto my wrist. And it was bleeping excruciating. That one will wake you right up. Do not envy Mike, and suspect that even after he comes back he will be wearing some sort of brace to try to protect it.

What a shame.

The good news: they did not waste valuable time thinking it may heal, only to have to do surgery later. Get it done.....and apparently, they are.

Honestly I don't think it would have been a difference if Bibby did not get injured or not. this team is just bad and its sad the said painful truth.

honestly, there's no way anyone can say they were surprised by something like this (as kings fans i mean) I saw something like this coming, i wasjust curious which player was goign to get injuried and miss a substantial amount of time, haha.

lets see what Theus is really made of

Bibby out until probably January 08. Artest gone for the first 7 games. Miller might be dealing with back spasms, which can be a lingering issue. No legit point guard. ? at the 4 spot.

Things dont get any better than that for a first year coach.

actually as much as we see Mike as being the "scorer" on our team, he controls the game for us. Now we will have absolutely nobody able to consistently set the flow of the game. Pending the fact that Shakur will get cut because of his constant blatant mishandle of the ball, we will be left with Douby and Greene as "pg" sized players.

Actually, I think this may have removed any lingering pressure to make the PO. Which may be good or bad, depending on how you look at it.

I think Bibby getting injured is bad but I think that aspect of it is probably good. If we make the playoffs that means Reggie's a hell of a coach, Ron's found some mental stability, Kevin's continued to just get better, Douby probably stepped up at PG, and we surprise everyone. It's not impossible but it's not really probable either. If we miss the playoffs then atleast it's just a year for Reggie to learn and no big deal considering we have so many things stacked against us at this point.

Actually it is a best chance for Douby to show his talent .... I do not think we can get a good veteran ... so we have to enjoy what we have. Fortunately, some of our players have some PG skills (Hawes (almost have), Miller, Garcia etc.) ... it won't save us though.
