Beno with a knee injury

Knee surgery knocks Beno Udrih out of EC - Sep 3, 2009 (by Zeljko Zule)
Beno Udrih (194-G-82) is facing up to three weeks on the sidelines after damaging his left knee ligament. The Sacramento Kings guard limped out of Slovenian 70-53 win against Germany at Bonn on Tuesday. He has since been sent to a specialist to determine the extent of the injury.
Beno Udrih will miss the 2009 European Championship and coach Jurij Zdovc have called up Jaka Klobucar (198-G-87) of Union Olimpija to replace two-time NBA Champion.

Sorry it ahppened to Beno, but, dang, he'll be out-of-shape coming into camp for the Kings and may not even be really healed by then. Beno certainly has an injury prone history.

Three weeks for surgery? Sounds really low, even for arthroscopic. If he does have surgery I doubt he's ready for opening day.

Sometimes I tend to forget he did win two championships. I'm surprised with all the news we've been hearing about other teams and their players suffering injuries overseas, that the Kings don't try to look further into this matter.

Fantastic, just when I was holding on to the glimmer of hope that Beno could come back and "remain tradeable" this happens. Now he'll have another season where he shows up out of shape and using his injury as an excuse - and hangers-on will say "just wait til next year when he's healthy."

So I guess when Kenny leaves, there won't be an empty seat behind the bench...

(apologies ahead of time for my apocalyptic rant)

Well at least we can start Evans and have Sergio back him up. If Beno's injury ends up being a nagging one, just have him shut it down and sign BJAX as our third PG.

I'm guessing that since it is Beno, this 3 week estimate will actually last around 2 months
I'm guessing that 3 weeks is the recovery time for their taking a look around in his knee. If they find something which needs fixing, it's probably going to be a second surgery, and a second recovery period.

Sucks for him. Here's to a quick recovery.

But if the odds were stacked against him seeing major playing time for us, they're even more stacked now.

Beno seems to be very injury prone. Hope he gets well soon. But the good thing is it clears up time for Evans and Sergio

No.

Beno's a pretty good player when he's making the effort. He doesn't always make the effort, but the ability is there. He has some good NBA years left in him if he wants to, he's NOT beyond redemption.

Kenny Thomas will retire from the NBA without having made the effort to learn to consistently hit a layup from 7 feet, but if he had, he'd still be a 6'5" (barefoot), 32 year old PF. At his best, he was a tweener, but that was a long time ago, and now you can stick a fork in him. Time for him to go open a sports bar across the street from UNM, or something like that.

I think it was actually a good thing for Beno to spend sometime playing in FIBA to at least freshen up after playing with worst team in the NBA last season. I hope the injury is not too serious. The way his playing in FIBA is actually a bit encouraging that he would come back fired up this season.

Please don't dump too much on him. He is still a Kings player, after all. And the injury was not due to skiing or riding a mopped. :D . He was playing for his country's pride which is actually an honorable decision.

Let's just hope for the best. And who knows the best thing actually is that due to this injury we will see a lot of Evans and Sergio playing running this team.

I agree. I'll admit there were times when I was pretty frustrated with Beno, but I was really hoping he'd come back from FIBA ready to defend his position from the new kids.

Beno puzzles me. I've watched him have some really good games but I've also watched him go through the motions without seeming to be personally invested in the game at all... Tough to figure out.

I do hope the injury isn't serious and that he heals quickly.

Therein lies the problem. And, afaic, it's a huge problem. Ability doesn't mean crap if you are not putting effort into it...EVERY GAME. When a team pays you that kind of money, you need to give all your effort...EVERY GAME.

Some of us work hard every single day, and we make peanuts in comparison. Hell, we make peanuts by any comparison. It just ticks me off that the hard earned money we spend to support the Kings, and therefor Beno's salary, is only earned when he feels like putting in the effort.
