Kings guard Quincy Douby went coast to coast for a basket during an intrasquad scrimmage Tuesday, and the whistle blew immediately.
One of the focuses of Sacramento's exhibition season is getting back on defense.
So John Salmons, Mike Bibby, Kenny Thomas, Shareef Abdur-Rahim and Kevin Martin, the alleged defenders on the transition change, dropped to the floor approximately 3:15 into the practice and did some pushups.
Play then continued, but the point was made.
Get your butts back on defense and stop the ball.
Martin's production – Martin averaged 20.2 points on an average of 13.3 field-goal attempts per game last season.
Another way to look at his success is with a question. Shouldn't he have taken more shots?
The shooting guard said he still believes he should have had more plays called for him last season. He says he'll get more scheduled attempts under new coach Reggie Theus.
"Per game? About one and a half," Martin said when asked how many plays were called for him last season. "I think Reggie is going to put me in a lot more situations where I have the opportunity to score. And I'm not going to the back seat this year. I'm going to be aggressive from the start.
"Sometimes last year I let the game come to me, and sometimes it was the third quarter before that happened."
'South Park' will have to wait – First-round draft choice Spencer Hawes worked hard on conditioning while his teammates practiced and said he was happy to get back into the gym following arthroscopic knee surgery earlier this month.
"I was getting so bored on the couch icing my knee," Hawes said. "I've been watching a lot of 'South Park'."
Hawes will be with the team on the final two games of the exhibition season, against the Clippers in Los Angeles tonight and the Lakers in Las Vegas on Friday night.
However, Hawes' options in Vegas are limited.
"There's not very much I can do," he said. "I'm only 19, and they (casino employees) start looking at me if I even look at the tables, especially at the Palms, where they know my face."
Harrick, Theus go way back – Former college basketball coach Jim Harrick attended Tuesday's practice, and Theus smiled when telling a story about his high school days in Los Angeles.
"He recruited me ... in high school," said Theus, who went to Inglewood High. "He tried to get me to go to Morningside (High, where Harrick coached). And I was still in junior high."

It's a great sign coming from what Kevin said, having only one play or so called for him per game last year and still putting up those numbers. Also explains the "Peja Syndrome" he had with the 3rd quarter always being his best quarter. If he can get it going early and often he could lead the league in scoring.

HOOO AHHH!

Coach Reggie aka Coach Gunney!!! Gimme 25 you non-defenders!!!

Still has it -- been going on all preseason.

its nice to see some discipline been put into action by the new coaches this season, un like last year where muss always looked for a positive even though many times it wasn't their last season.

whether this work actually pays off within terms of winning and playing better is not yet known, but it's nice to see an authoritative figure (or at least authority anyway) within the team.
