Bee: Is Artest calling it quits?

Hmmm... I'm not sure that logic works in the NBA.

If it did, the most valuable franchise in history would have been the Jailblazers.

That's not the theory. Like I said, there comes a time when you need to drop the hot potato (not potatoes).

And also, the Jailblazers are a small town market where that kind of thing, en masse, doesn't go over so well. And also, they may not have had a Vegas up their sleeve. As I'm sure the Maloofs do if an arena deal can't be worked out for any number of reasons.

But hey, I'm just saying that from a financial standpoint, Artest is not as much of a risk as we might think.

Maybe they personally don't think that much, but when you're worth that much money, you can afford to hire people who do. As it's said, if as a business owner you are the smartest person in your company, you're in trouble. Also, there's George.

It's not a conspiracy theory, its just them coming from a different perspective. They're not just dumb homer fans, as they definitely want us to think.

Nope. It's you thinking perhaps they're coming form a different perspective.

:)

I honestly believe the Maloofs are not at all happy with the current state of affairs and honestly just hope they can find a way out...

Not if they're warming up a deal with Stern to get a team to/in Vegas. "Oh and look, Mr. Stern, it's just impossible to work with Sacramento to get an arena deal anyway..."

Worried? They've already doubled the value of the franchise. And this might have even only been a toy for them and a way for the family to increase visiblity to foster other business ventures.

Yes, they may have been genuinely hoping that things would've worked out in the W/L column, but they of course had to have had a situation like this in their minds, and it's impact on the VALUE of the franchise. You see, we tend to think in W's and L's, while they have always been thinking in $$ (and W's and L's), and of course they are related, but not directly.

You seem to have taken a vary faulty premise -- the any pub is good pub boondoggle, and run wild with it. That motto is only true in very limited circumstances, and basically not at all when you have an extablished brand name and customer base. Its not good for McDonalds to have pub about how their fries clog people's arteries, its not good for Merck to have pub that their drugs are killing people, and its not even good for Mel Gibson to get pub for ranting about the awfulness of Jewish people.

And for the Sacramento Kings, the sort of publicity Ron has brought is NOT adding value to the team. It is incompatible with the type of business the Kings are. The Kings earn money by selling tickets and programming rights. If the local market gets sick of your players ala the Jailblazers then your business is hurt. If the player contributes to an ugly distracted season where your product is no longer entretaining, for the home fans or the roid fans (and just watching Kings games I would have to say we have been bottom 10 in road attendance this year), then that is not helping the team;s value either. Far from raising the team's profile to some indeterminate end, it makes your team unmarketable.

Then I see this picture of him with some skank on his lap at a night club, and I just don't know what to say......
sorry for rambling..
Hey, I take umbrage as a person of the female persuasion. We KNOW Ron's married. As far as I'm concerned, he's the "skank" in the picture, until proven otherwise. Or they both are.;)

Ding! Ding! Ding!!!

BTW? Have you found a way to contain the umbrage? Every time I take some it ends up just wreaking havoc all over the place...

;)

No, I just stupidly grab some every now and then. It takes a while to clean up after. ;)

Doubt sincerely that the Maloofs have stuck up for Ron for the sake of publicity. All interviews this season would lead a person to believe that they're every bit as delusional as Ron with regard to this team and its potential.

But, if they or their handlers did approach the Ron thang with an emphasis on the business/publicity side of things, they've made a horrible miscalculation. This yuckiness isn't helping, at any level, and has been quite visibly brewing all season long.

Now that I think about it, given the likelihood of some level of involvement with the recent marketing gaffes (gold unis, gold standard, gold six, etc.), we really shouldn't rule out that whole miscalculation thing too soon.

I was kind of just running with that to see where it would go. You may very well be right. In which case I would be happy. As this all helps the grand rebuild effort I've been hoping for. A major lin.
