Beastie Boys Appreciation Thread: Mike D says...

#1
I just picked up the Beastie Boys album Hello Nasty for $1.50 (Thank you Arc thrift store!) And it occurred to me, on every Beastie Boys album, Mike D, at one point says something like.

"My name is Mike D..."

And then he says stuff like

"...and I'm back from the dead, chillin' at the beach down at club med" - from Shake your Rump from Pauls Boutique
or
"...I'm a real bad man" - from So' What'cha Want from Check your Head
or
"...and I'm the ladies choice. I want to get next to you like Rolls Royce" -from Three MCs and One DJ from Hello Nasty

anymore Mike D lines that jump out at you? I only have the three albums...

My favorite Mike D identifier is one of the first: "My name is Mike D and I'm about to get MONEY," because it's just so direct.

Different construction, but I also like: "M-I-K-E to the D / You come and see me and you pay a fee."

On a side note, he's looking the most disturbing with age. Adrock looks the just same with some gray, and MCA looks like a college professor, but Mike D looks all waxy with weird deep lines in his face. Maybe it's because he reportedly had some drug issues, because I was noticing that about him even before the other two started to show their age.

My favorite Beastie Boys lyrics are the obscure jazz references.

"Just plug me in like I was Eddie Harris" refers to a jazz saxophonist who pioneered the electric sax.

I can't find the exact phrase on Google, but somewhere they say something like: "I'm out like Eric Dolphy" referring to that avant-garde musician's defining album "Out to Lunch".

Edit: Oh, I forgot their best jazz reference! "I'm Buddy Rich when I fly off the handle" Buddy Rich is not obscure at all, the most famous jazz drummer ever, but the reference is to an infamous bootleg tape of him FREAKING OUT on his band members. The money quote of that tape being: "You wanna F*** with me on the bandstand?!?"

They have lots of other great namechecks: "Everything I do is funky like Lee Dorsey," "I've got more hits than Sadaharu Oh," and so on.

Interesting point. In terms of rhymes, I'd say he's aged the best, as his lines were usually the most impressive of the three from "Alive" and To the 5 Boroughs. Love the guy, but can't say the same for MCA.

But, when we're on the subject of favorite lines, mine is this triple entendre from "Shadrach": "Got more suits than Jacoby & Meyers"
Ok I can't figure it out... suits can be lawsuits or wardrobe suits, what is the possible third meaning here?
